Hallelujah

LaGuardia looks so far from here,
It could almost be a star –
But no! I’m the one that’s shooting
through the sky.

See, I left my old man in New York,
the upper west side, near Riverside Park.
It was dark when I boarded the bus –
It was darker before I boarded the bus.
	
But now there is no he and I, no 
us.  Just me, alone in coach; a baffled Queen
decomposing Hallelujah.
 (Hallelujah, hallelujah).

A couple months before my flight,
I thought I’d see my name in lights!
A play, off Broadway, he would say,
But he lied, he lied, he lied.

So, I’m saving myself – two bags in tow,
one turbulent heart, and nowhere to go
but up.

Il est venu, le... le... comment se nomme-t-il... le... 
il me semble qu’il me crie son nom, et je ne l’entends pas... 
le... oui... il le crie... 
 le... Horla... le Horla... 
Ah ! le vautour a mangé la colombe ; le loup a mangé le mouton ; le lion a dévoré le buffle aux cornes aiguës ; l’homme a tué le lion avec la flèche, avec le glaive, avec la poudre ; mais le Horla va faire de l’homme ce que nous avons fait du cheval et du bœuf : sa chose, son serviteur et sa nourriture, par la seule puissance de sa volonté. Malheur à nous ! 
Pourtant, l’animal, quelquefois, se révolte et tue celui qui l’a dompté... moi aussi je veux... je pourrai... mais il faut le connaître, le toucher, le voir! 
Est-ce que nous voyons la cent millième partie de ce qui existe ? 
voici le vent qui est la plus grande force de la nature 
le vent qui tue, qui siffle, qui gémit, qui mugit, l’avez-vous vu et pouvez-vous le voir : il existe pourtant ! 
Un être nouveau ! pourquoi pas ? 
Il devait venir assurément ! pourquoi serions-nous les derniers ! 
Nous ne le distinguons point, 
ainsi que tous les autres créés avant nous ? 
Nous sommes quelques-uns, si peu sur ce monde, depuis l’huître jusqu’à l’homme. 
Pourquoi pas un de plus, 
Pourquoi pas d’autres éléments que le feu, l’air, la terre et l’eau ? 
Pourquoi pas
C’est lui, lui, le Horla, qui me hante, qui me fait penser ces folies ! 
il devient mon âme ; je le tuerai ! 
je le tuerai !   
La maison, maintenant, n’était plus qu’un bûcher horrible et magnifique, un bûcher monstrueux, éclairant toute la terre, un bûcher où brûlaient des hommes, et où il brûlait aussi, Lui, Lui, mon prisonnier, l’Être nouveau, le nouveau maître, le Horla ! 
 Soudain le toit tout entier s’engloutit entre les murs et un volcan de flammes jaillit jusqu’au ciel. Par toutes les fenêtres ouvertes sur la fournaise, je voyais la cuve de feu, et je pensais qu’il était là dans ce four, mort... 
Mort ? Peut-être ?... Son corps ? son corps que le jour traversait n’était-il pas indestructible par les moyens qui tuent les nôtres ? 
S’il n’était pas mort ?... seul peut-être le temps a prise sur l’Être Invisible et Redoutable. Pourquoi ce corps transparent, ce corps inconnaissable, ce corps d’Esprit, s’il devait craindre, lui aussi, les maux, les blessures, les infirmités, la destruction prématurée ? 
La destruction prématurée ? toute l’épouvante humaine vient d’elle ! Après l’homme, le Horla. 
celui qui ne doit mourir qu’à son jour, à son heure, à sa minute, parce qu’il a touché la limite de son existence ! 
Non... non... sans aucun doute, sans aucun doute... il n’est pas mort... Alors... alors... il va donc falloir que je me tue.

Narco
Hovering around the gap peering into the slipstream the sleepwatchers wait for the drift
Our pauses in time where we take our breaks
They follow our light traveling deep, mapping the infrastructure
inhaling the vapors from our astral glow.
The speed of the return can leave the watcher high from the burn
once addicted they can be spotted at twilight
agitated
dancing in the shadows, desperate for a fix.

Am I evil for promoting the extinction of humanity?
Even though it’s to save my family from the issues of poverty
Am I evil for eliminating another human?
Even though it’s to save another soul to stay human
Gathering my thoughts I play the aspects of all evil
From a man, to a woman, to a child and then the people
I feel like this cycle of despair becomes more stagnant
Even though we evolve, but do the unfortunate even state that
Whose an angel or a demon, was I made in the image of God
But given the mentality of the Devil, that equation doesn’t seem to be odd
Because I agree with my alter ego, he is the unfortunate
Cast out of the world to maintain the relevance of all the fortunate
Am I evil for thinking the Devil had an instinct of any soul?
Because we all want change, but the majority always hold the hope
Am I evil for stating people are so attached to religion?
Even though religion leads to wars that affected people’s decision
Am I evil for forgiving the man that killed my loved ones?
Because I don’t see why I have to cry for someone who’s then a dead one
I might be heartless, but I heard that’s what makes me stronger
Though if you have a heart, your mind becomes broader
Tell me why, why do people think death possesses good and evil
Didn’t God state it’s evil but he brought a plague on the Egyptian People?
Just because they didn’t follow his beliefs, God what’s the cure
Maybe humans were never meant to travel to find a heart that is pure
Sometimes I think we’re all demons finding a way to prove ourselves
Sometimes I think there were no angels that we’re left to help ourselves
Am I evil for thinking that, maybe you erased our memories
Because it was the only way to get people to hear your mind’s melody
Am I evil for confronting the Devil to seek success?
Even though I live on a meal, anointed by the unfortunate’s regrets
So many people choose darkness because there are limited reasons
To follow the light, you must see this as our hearts change like the seasons
It’s our fault, God I’m sorry, we influenced these events
Diseases profits the doctors, conflict profits the soldiers’ presence
Then people blame you, while it’s the population’s fault
The poor can’t see the bigger picture while their trapped in depression’s box
Am I evil for ending humanity in a second?
Just for people to rest in peace because the next generation will suffer, will you accept it?
Or so the population will stop living under the pressure of work
Since we all aim to rest, I’m just granting the necessities’ perks
Tell me why, why do there have to be two outcomes in an event
Though I have come across a path that brought a third outcome’s essence
I’m still liquidizing its essence, maybe it’s the solution
To get drunk off its ingredients, leading to the threshold’s conclusion
Am I evil for idolizing my wife to be?
Or my father that found success, because they are the tangible assets I need
Though if I never knew you I wonder where I would be
Maybe longing for your Holy water to drown all my evil deeds

Am I Evil | Spoken Word Poetry

Hi I'm Brenda and I have been a poet for the past 20 or so years. 'The Sword In Your Stone’ and 'Tomorrows People' were my first publications where I explored dreamscape. Subsequent publications 'Strange Attractors' and 'In Conversation Volume One' take a more metaphysical approach. 

I’m always seeking to explore the bigger questions in life, when connected to my muse the spiritual download gives a deeper dimension to life. My most recent uploads are twelve tracks working with the jazz musician Tim Holmes. This was a brilliant experience, Tim with his inventive experimental style, expressively complements my poetry. 

I eventually want to put all my work on sound cloud so everyone can listen and download for free.

I have not put any poetry online before in this format so this is still quite experimental but I am hoping anyone who gleans upon my content enjoys what they hear and any feedback or responses would be great.
