"Working with one of my inspirations proves that I'm one step away", Spencer says posted at the GrindHouse with Doc and ILLeet, playing the records that was recorded in New York for Vic's solo album due in the 4th quarter. "First of all, Sean P fucks with Doc beats so it was immediate chemistry in the booth. I fuck with the love that NY has for Chicago MC's such as myself, because P could have worked or chose anybody else from here. But it's ME that he fucks with. Besides all the dope barplay and rugged beats, Price a real genuine dude."

Just hours after the relaunch of Payday Records, the iconic record label has released its first song “Our Streets” featuring legendary producer DJ Premier and A$AP Ferg, which is available today via digital retailers everywhere. “Our Streets” is the first song released by hip-hop and EDM pioneer Patrick Moxey’s newly relaunched record label. DJ Premier is reunited with former Gang Starr manager Moxey as the first artist to release music on Payday Records. 

“Our Streets” is a true New York hip-hop track, combining DJ Premier’s signature beats and A$AP Ferg’s versatile style to create a classic, raw and energetic sound. The song marks the first time the legendary DJ and rap star have worked together, despite both being prominent figures of the New York hip-hop scene for years. 

“It's a dream to be able to work with the legendary DJ Premier on this record” stated Ferg. “Preemo has worked with all the NYC hip hop icons and greats - Nas, Biggie, Guru, Hov, KRS-one, and The Lox. Just knowing I was working with him pushed me as an MC.” 

"With Ferg, or anybody I work with, they already know my history so they know that I come from the 90s era” DJ Premier said. “Ferg just automatically said 'Don't do what I've been doing on my albums - I want you to do a Preemo style and let me show I can rap to that,' so I was like 'let's do it.' Everybody was happy off jump - no suggestions, no 'I think we should go this direction' - it was an automatic in, out, done, in one day." 

“Our Streets” is available now, and is the first song released by the newly relaunched Payday Records. Patrick Moxey, who is the President and Founder of Ultra Records, Ultra Music and Ultra International Music Publishing, originally formed Payday Records in New York City in 1992. Payday was the first record label to sign Jay Z, releasing his first single “In My Lifetime” in 1995. Other artists signed to Payday throughout the 90s include Jeru the Damaja, Mos Def (via his first group U.T.D.), Showbiz & A.G., Group Home, Guru, WC and the Maad Circle and more. DJ Premier played an integral role in Payday throughout the 1990s, bringing artists like hip-hop duo Group Home and rapper Jeru the Damaja to Payday for release, and producing a number of the label’s biggest hits including “Come Clean,” and “Supa Star.”

The Griselda collective of Westside Gunn, Conway & Benny The Butcher (all emerging stars in their own right) is a unified family movement built on authenticity.  It’s cultural, it’s raw and it’s viral.  Griselda’s ascension, both collectively and individually is palpable. “I've wanted to do a record with them individually for a few years now.
I had been listening to Westside Gunn first.  Conway got my lyrical attention very heavy when Alchemist told me to listen to how he rhymes” Premier asserted.  “Then after I got in tune with Benny's songs, I immediately knew that in order to follow up the Casanova record (“WUT U SAID”) it made sense to have all three on the same single. “Headlines” was made organically from a blank canvas at my studio at 2am and it happened so fast; and I loved their work ethic.  Pull the trigger on this one!”

When Conway proclaims on his opening bar “I don’t beef on the internet I approach you,” over Preem’s anthemic boom-bap, the modernization of an aesthetic from NY’s storied street rap movement comes full circle; and you are simultaneously transported back to the block when trunks rattled from blasting a new gem from a just released Clue tape.  

With Griselda, bleak tales of survival and violent escapades are the topics at hand and DJ Premier is a conduit artistically elevating the sound of the life they lead.  And when Benny offers “I sewed the block together like a seamstress, and I lived to tell about it on some Preem shit,” it doesn’t come off as an admission of guilt, as much as it does the realization of a lifelong dream.
