The 20th Amulet is carried by Verge, the alias of experimental electronic musician André Gough, based in Belfast. Having debuted with a consummate release on the eminent Avian imprint in 2017, Verge has displayed impeccable artistic focus from day one, continuing to uphold and refine his talent with the album 'Impermanence' released on VEYL in 2020, 'Vignettes' on Perfect Aesthetics and 'Fluid Motion' on Aura Dinamica in 2021. The sound of Verge fuses many echoes of industrial, experimental techno, ambient, and other influences, assuredly rising above genre boundaries and presenting music that's much to admire.

The most powerful impression, probably, was a conversation with Tsovinar, an ornithologist, her emphasized communication in English, “why everyone leaves when you need to resist”, and before that, Oksana Timofeeva’s foreword about how a bird crosses the border and philosopher’s envy for her. There was also Armash (artificial ponds with carps for deliveries to the Russian Federation, formed by water forcibly removed from the lake), the border with Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iran. “There is Azerbaijan ... and there is Iran ..., and Ararat itself is Turkey, and in this part, to the right of the top, Noah’s Ark was hooked,” Tsovinar said. Well, it was all at the same time and so obvious. Everything came together like a loop. And inside the bright sun and paintings by Saryan, the view from the balcony to Ararat, delicious food, a salt lake and arched vaults made of tuff.

I was probably waiting for this on / off voice and security. But the music, the writing - it all seemed very hidden to me, such a careful sound in the temples, in the Chamber Hall, in the Matenaderan museum. And yes, I also went nuts from one photo, from a look, more precisely, from Komitas in this photo. For me, the gaze usually takes away, all the memory of what is happening flows there, like hypnosis. But here it was completely different, there was recognition and the flow in the other direction.

Maria Karpovich – sound artist, curator of the Geography of Implicit Flows laboratory, member of the Daisies duet.
Works with spatial audio, field recordings, bird and animal voices. In her work, she focuses on working with memory, the phenomena of attunement and recognition. In research practice, she relies on a rhythm-analytical approach, methods of mapping and resynthesis.

Мария Карпович — звуковая художница, кураторка лаборатории «География неявных потоков», участница дуэта «Маргаритки». Работает с пространственным звуком, полевыми записями, голосами птиц и животных. В своём творчестве делает акцент на работе с памятью, феноменами сонастройки и узнавания. В  исследовательской практике опирается на ритманалитический подход, методы раскартирования и ресинтеза.
