If you were looking to shine a light on an essential element of Bianca Scout’s Sunday Mix, the most obvious choice would be her voice.

Over the course of 75-odd-minutes, it’s this instrument – glitchy here, wispy there, haunting throughout – that the London-based musician and choreographer uses to guide you through songs from her catalogue thus far, from unreleased edits to forthcoming work via music from her latest release, 'The Heart of the Anchoress'. Much like an ASMR soundtrack from some busy train station, filled with noise and bustle and background buzz, plus stories and strangers to boot, Scout’s mix will take you to somewhere else entirely this Sunday.

Gianpaolo, aka Savile, first graced the decks at Hot Mass in early 2016, delivering an excellent, extended warm-up set before Volvox took the reigns.  Being the stellar DJ and beaming ray of humanity that he is, we couldnt help but invite him back to program the entire night a few months later.  This time around, Savile invited Argot label-mate and fellow great human, Stefan Ringer, to share the decks.  This is an excerpt of their 7+ hours in the booth that night.  Stefan soundtracks the first two hours and Savile take the last two. Enjoy :)

With a raw and rooted sound, this Atlanta producer/DJ blends laconic raps and sensual, low-slung house beats that feel distinctly American.

Stefan Ringer is an Atlanta-based producer and DJ who’s released original music under his own name, on labels such as Smart Bar’s Argot and Kai Alcé’s NDATL Muzik, and under aliases such as REKchampa, Black Suede and Al Hype. Taking inspiration from local house figures like Alcé as much as from his love of rap music and DIY production aesthetics, Ringer’s sound draws from a broad church of black American music to create a subtle soundscape of laid-back house beats imbued with boogie basslines and downtempo raps.

We continue 25 years of Solid Steel with a mix from Photek, a legendary figure in music since the early nineties who featured many times on the show with tracks from Modus Operadi, Form & Function up to Pyramid from his recent album Ku:Palm, plus 'Into the 90's' from 1994 that also featured on Coldcut's Journeys by DJ mix CD. As ever we wanted something different and this mix titled 'Solid Steel Skool Dayz' suggests the music he listened to growing up with classic tracks from Gwen McCrae, ELO, Roxy Music, Inner Life and Joyce Sims.

Número Nueve is, an earmarked number for myself, as I am, a Life Path 9... Oof, it ain’t always easy. Wherever I happen to be, people think I work there, & ask for help?.. Usually I can actually accommodate, go figure that?.. From record shops, to buddah spots, or bodegas, a Nine’s path is passionately complicated, & compassionate, due to 9’s uncommon universal effect, & embodiment of, ALL other numbers... Yeah that’s right. Just add 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8 = 36... 3+6= 9... 9+9= 18... 1+8= yup 9. Nine takes the shape of a spiral, see, the combined wave of creativity, & evolvement, living life to express, love... But, feeling, well, everything... So, in the Holiday projects, I try to perfectly place, songs that move me, to tell that old soul, heartfelt, type a story, metaphoric, & literal. & hopefully, it can inspire getting back to, or rather evolving to a greater place, of love & compassion... Signing off (as 9 is also the number of completion), simultaneously living in the past, & ahead of this fucking time...

P.S. volumes 7 & 8 are done (for those paying attention), they just haven’t been publicized on the avenues they was gifted to, yet...
