Bside Incoming: Discothèque Tropicale

The next instalment (#167) of the B-side podcast invites an event series, record label and DJ collective who go by the name of Discothèque Tropicale.

A project created in the celebration of borderless music and diverse creative cultures from across the world. Their global musical voyage has taken them to every corner of all things soulful and funky; with lots of Brazilian influence, Zouk, Soukous, Funaná and Reggae. Their record label has had a heavy focus on Afro-Carribean reissues (especially Zouk), and their upcoming release has already been played by heavyweight DJs such as Antal, Hunee and Palms Trax! 

Keep an eye out for their future reissues, and their sets Ion and Westival in the UK this summer! Until then, enjoy some sunny tropical sounds from the Bside of Discothèque Tropicale’s impressively global collection.

How Much Is Enough? 🧐

I’ve been DJing for almost two decades, and my love for music has always stretched far and wide, from early jazz to contemporary techno and everything in between. My record collection reflects that journey, shaped by years of digging, playing, and discovering.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to showcase these selections at world-renowned listening bars, from London to Lisbon, Tokyo to Tel Aviv. And while I loved those experiences, something was missing. Six hours of playing records to a dining room often felt more like curating background noise than creating connection. The carefree parties I’d fallen in love with in my youth, where people lost themselves in the music and strangers became best friends for one night, had been traded in for chin-strokers swirling natural wines and snapping selfies. Somewhere along the way, the joy slipped through the cracks.

Lately, I’ve taken a step back from that scene to find the essence of why I started doing this in the first place. To reconnect with that feeling of unity, energy, and freedom that only the dancefloor can bring.

How Much Is Enough is an all-vinyl mix series born from that search. It’s a space to play the records that make me dance. The ones I reach for when I want to be whisked away to another world where nothing else matters.
