Not much is known about our guest for podcast number 139, except for that his sound is dark as the night and cold as steel. Afem Syko takes you into a world of thundering kicks and roaring synths, a dystopian dancefloor vision to escape to. His uncompromising style has gained him some attention over the years, culminating in sets for organizations such as Vault Sessions as well as an impressive release on none other than Kobosil's R-Label Group imprint. For this Podcast we invite Noneoftheabove with their “Straight forward techno”, which is as how they describe their sound themselves, better even is to throw in hardcore, industrial, acid, and one of their main sources of inspiration: schranz.

If last year was about tightening their output, focusing on exploring new production ground together, this year is about preparing new singles and remixes for Noneoftheabove, unveiling a new (more genre strict) label, as well as readying new artists for TheAbove Records. Together with D.Carbone, they also form the production/DJ-act The Executioners, working more spontaneously in the studio, recording live to create a more powerful and noisy sound.

Her sound signature is a new wave of hard edge driving techno, relying on a dark, percussive, industrial and tribal groove that weaves its way through experimental soundscapes. Hailing from the Yorkshire Dales just outside of Leeds, Balrog is an artist whose style focuses on heavy groove-ridden drums, driving bass lines, and obscure distorted vocals. His tracks take influence from classic hardgroove but with a fresh injection of modern industrial power. Developing his signature style of industrial groove techno has seen him release on labels including Soma, Hydraulix, Instruments Of Discipline, Moments In Time, Green Fetish and The Meaning Of Rave. His music has received support from some of the biggest in the scene including Amelie Lens, Dax J, Rebekah, Perc, Paula Temple, Manni Dee, and many more.

This style of industrial groove blends in to his DJ sets which have paved the way for him to headline events in Manchester, London, Berlin, Budapest and Glasgow. He has also played on lineups alongside a number of high profile artsist including Jeff Mills, Nastia and Jay Clarke.

Balrog also runs his own record label, Khazad Records, which releases music from the very best industrial and hard techno talent around.
