Js Donny - Death Folk LP - OUT NOV. 18

Almost two years after the ‘BnN’ debut-EP as the Xtnded quartet, Brussels-based artist Js Donny returns solo for their new record ‘Death Folk’. Leaving the delicate fluttering of the butterfly for the infinite swirl of a ghost tornado, the bassist for Marseilles poectic-sludge band Donna Candy drops a minimalist yet profoundly intimate album, where everything turns black.

Co-released by Bamboo Shows (France), 29Speedway (New York) and chrüsimüsi records (Switzerland), the album contains six acoustic ballads between doom-folk and soft metal; songs that could have been composed in a dusty attic. Written solely with electronic nylon guitar and muffled bass lines, the music leaves the field clear for Js Donny’s unique voice, skillfully oscillating between soft scream, brooding whispers and liturgical choirs.

Recorded, co-mixed and mastered by Anotyne Nouel at Sound Love Studio. Ornamented with the deadly drawing of Victoire Mandement.

A limited edition of 300 smoke-clear vinyl will be released alongside the album on November 18, 2025.

_______ BABAU - ALL THE GURLS WERE AT THE WOMEN'S ARCHO ASHINTO
“All The Gurls Were At The Women’s Archo Ashinto” is the new work by post-exoticist duo Babau, a project of Matteo Pennesi and Luigi Monteanni, both founders of Artetetra, a label and platform pursuing practice-based sound research on digital folklore and internet world music, which they term Quinto Mondo; a spin on Jon Hassel’s Fourth World. After releasing their own output on labels such as Discrepant, Communion and Artetetra and being selected as SHAPE+ alumni 2022/23, Babau is back on Bamboo Shows with a wild ride into the soundscapes of bootleg sound ethnography and floating world digi-exotica collages.

As part of the “Vai a casa, sei ubriaco!” series, Babau redraws the lines of stoner-impressionism and gonzo traveling through the rework of a radio show they produced for Psychic Radio. Born as a patchwork of imaginative sketches meshing YouTube audio manipulation with Babau’s signature live computer techniques, spirit box-like vocal excerpts and irregularly pulsing beats, “ATGWATWAA” explores the brain fog of transglobal exoticism offering a continuous, fake field recording where organologies and aural timbres conjure a floating world of sound flows and yet-to-come folk genres from yonder. If you’re here for a first-class ticket to mind trickery and surreally tender ‘cinema pour l’oreille’, no one does it better.

In particular, the title of the album comes from a shirt photographed by Babau in the streets which belongs to the phenomenon of SHANZAI clothing. Shanzhai (Chinese: 山寨; pinyin: shānzhài; Cantonese Jyutping: saan zaai) is a Chinese term literally meaning ‘mountain fortress’, the places where smugglers, rogues and thieves were imagined to reside, whose contemporary usage encompasses counterfeit, imitation, or parody products and events, as well as the subculture surrounding them. The term’s modern usage increased about 2008, when shanzhai smartphones achieved their peak domestic popularity.
Today, people associate the phrase with grassroots invention and ingenuity, rather than with deception or imitation. Similarly, Babau’s sonic vignettes talk of naive inconsistent societies and bootleg archipelagos, knock-off folk music and smuggled fragments of musics quilted into a feverish pseudo-regional repertoire. With “ATGWATWAA”, Babau coagulates its sonic weapons and tricks into a new narration leading the listeners to emerging landscapes and disappearing worlds made of magic pressurized air.

_______ POLONIUS - ANTIQUE FANTASIA VOL. 4: POLONIUS 2
After introducing Babau for the inaugural cassette, the second installment of the sunitty focus showcases another contributor of the “Vapordub” V/A, with Egyptian Seif Gaber aka Polonius, dear friend of ArteTetrA, where he released the “Anaxia” and “Shades of Paradise” timeless yet time-bending cassettes (January and March 2019).

For the occasion the Milano-based musician exhumed the fourth opus of his Antique Fantasia series, a saga of six demo-tapes recorded between 2015 and 2018. Here’s the plainly entitled “Polonius 2”, a particularly eccentric segment of the aforementioned series. An album he has reworked and redefined over the years, initially inspired by Cocteau and maybe also a bit by Picasso. A translation of their simple, fresh line drawings and the distinctive flavor of that era through impulsive, offhand and elusive sounds. However, over the years this album became more about “gods, demigods and odd beings frolicking naked on flying checkerboards”, according to Polonius himself.

Delving into fourth-world abstractions and low-fidelity design, freeform creativity delivers here spontaneous exuberance, in Gaber‘s very own mischievous style. The piano checkerboard scrolls voluptuously, its ivory and ebony keys a canvas for his sonic alchemy. Synths soar and flirt with lively rhythms taking from the tribal folklore, creating a soundscape that appears both traditional and fanciful. Polonius' pataphysical tapestry unfurls an unlimited panorama of fantasized, unthought-of realms where the boundaries between genres and cultures dissolve.

Prince of Gosplan (the alter-ego project behind the De Kat Memwa guestmix series) joins our own podcast with a sonic collage to explore and re-assess personal memories, emotions, events and places.
His "Passage through the blue mist" mix ties altogether classical music and jazz, melancholic poetry, Eurasian folk, spoken word and field recordings from his St. Petersburg native city. A blend of sorrow and hope: lending emotional depth while hinting at a spark of light in the darkest corners of the soul. Far from freezing you in time with cumbersome memories, this spiritual passage through the blue mist shall trace a movement from anxiety and loss toward an inner renewal.

Here are a few words from Prince of Gosplan about his mix:
"This is probably the most personal thing I’ve done under the Prince of Gosplan name. It’s a space where the imagined and the intimate blur — where I try to process memories, emotions, and places by shaping them into a kind of sonic essay. Maybe I’m overcomplicating it, and all these semiotics only make sense to me. In the end, it’s just a selection of tracks that were mixed in particular order, but the process itself feels strangely therapeutic to me. And that’s reason enough to keep doing it.
This particular mix was also shaped by impressions from reading diaries, works of autofiction, and essays — stories where protagonists face emotional challenges, yet eventually find the strength to move forward. That narrative arc resonated deeply with me. In fact, the cover of the mix features a frame from Hedgehog in the Fog by Yuri Norstein — a masterpiece that I see as a quiet meditation on getting lost, confronting inner fears, and coming out the other side altered, maybe softer, maybe stronger. Each sonic fragment in this collage carries part of that transformative journey. It flows through symbolic phases: drowning; resurrection; fragile and quiet joy; sadness and disorientation; then movement, searching, and finally rebuilding with a hope for better. And yes — blue is my favorite color. It holds sorrow and light at once, and to me, that’s where transformation begins."

Today, the Athens-born, Marseille-based artist graces us with one of her haunting audio collages, a chaotic transmission where signals slash, voices rupture, and rhythms shatter like bone. Though, hunger lingers, and this cyber-utopian creature crawls through the backrooms of your memory, scavenging for terabytes to drain. Like a dead pixel born from too many glitches, her feral grin remains etched on your screen, as her mix floods your ears to the point of saturation.

_______ NINJA EXOTIC MACHINE – MANA VERDE
Amongst all the Italian encounters Bamboo Shows made over the years, here come Matteo Coffetti and Kakofonico under their moniker Ninja Exotic Machine. The Turinese duo plays a key role in the development of sunitty, both with their different musical projects and the vanguard leftfield bass label Pho Bho Records they run with Tundra & Federico Spini.

With their ‘Mana Verde’ LP, Matteo Coffetti and Kakofonico recount the fanciful ‘legend of the Mana Verde Forest’, thus depicting their porous vision of electronic music. In this enchanted lands, wacky improvisation meets the syncopated rhythms of Riddim and Dancehall, post internet weirdeleria echoes with stretched vocals, and deep bass-lines bring the whole party to a contagious dancing mania.

‘Mana Verde’ is the final installment of the ‘vai a casa, sei ubriaco!’ series, extending this sunitty panorama from psychedelic ambient and folkloric noise to leftfield bass and post internet dancefloor materials. To be further explored in the dedicated mini-zine.

Mana Verde by Ninja Exotic Machine is a sonic folktale rooted in sunitty - a playful practice of microcomposition, digital folklore, and chaotic improvisation. Set in a mythical forest where junky elves, mucky rhythms, and wandering sounds collide, the album traces a surreal journey through ecstatic gatherings, collective metamorphosis, and lysergic communion.
Each track unfolds as a chapter in an ever-mutating mythology where the beat becomes a spell, nonsense reveals unexpected truths, identity dissolves into sound, and the forest itself learns to dance.

_______ REPTILIAN EXPO – IMAGO MUTATIS & OTHER TALES
‘Imago Mutatis & Other Tales’ brings together two different works developed by Italian-born, Brussels-based producer Reptilian Expo, between 2022 and 2023.
 
The A-Side, Imago Mutatis, is a soundtrack composed for the live show ‘Imago Mutatis’, a performance stirring together music, dance, costumes and scenography; a fantastic tale about spiritual transformation, magical objects and enchanted places. This original soundtrack, divided into four acts, recounts the vicissitudes of Seiti’s search for the cosmic egg. Deceived by the witch Voiviy, Seiti must set out and face different creatures and difficulties in order to find what she seeks. Here, music sketches out the contours of a psychedelic quest, echoing the path and landscapes travelled by the characters.

The B-Side puts together some tracks played mainly live from 2022 to 2024.  The first one - ‘Sirena’, describes an encounter with fascinating volcanic water creatures. Then follows ‘passeggiare verrà’, a fast-paced but soft and elusive song that hosts Kaili’s vocals; the remaining tracks are resolutely weird-club oriented tracks designed to bewitch the dancefloor.

This third installment of the ‘vai a casa, sei ubriaco!’ series navigates through a wide sea of moods, from psychedelic ambient to glitchy noise, passing by intriguing synths and the signature leftfield bass of Reptilian Expo and his Pampsychia label, made of unbridled rhythms and unidentified bouncy sounds. For the first time, ‘vai a casa, sei ubriaco!’ comes up with dance-related materials, unveiling a wider spectrum of sunitty, to be further explored in the dedicated mini-zine.

“In an indefinite time dissolved in the present, Anthropos, or being of light, is diffused and dispersed in matter. Seiti, a warrior of Anthropos, was charged with finding the Cosmic Egg, an ancestral object that holds the power to gather all fragments into one, thus freeing the deity from its condition”.
This performance has been written, staged and performed by Reptilian Expo (aka Riccardo Patrone) in collaboration with, in alphabetical order: Claudia Catanzaro, Carlotta Menozzi, Laurie Rinaldi, Livia Bertacca, Nemo, Sara Bè, Siet Phorae and Tómas Reverendo.

co:clear is overjoyed to welcome Jonnnah to its fold, with a new long-form 12” edition. Featuring Pavel Milyakov (aka Buttechno) right off the bat, ‘Me, With You’ is an album that grips its listener tight with gleaming electronica, off-kilter trip-hop and swampy bass.

With past offerings to Soleil Rouge and Second End Records – a label which he heads – there's a thread that laces all of Jonnnah’s work. Although never sticking to a definable bracket, the Lyon-dweller effortlessly floats through various tempers, peddling impeccable electronics as equally suited to colossal sound systems, as they are to solitary early morning walks in headphones. It's ambient for the foreground that surprises with flurries of two-step and amen breaks – present-day sonics that doff their cap to what’s come before.

“10 ans déjà” ; ten years of music for Pilat troll Jacques Satre, and nearly as long for our friendship. From acid-tinged trance to celestial Balearic synths and demonic sludge-metal, the psychedelic spectrum gets playfully dismantled into psychoactive dubs, reinvented folk, mellow melodies, and Jacques’ typical humor to turn up the dancefloor.
This album says nothing new, it just echoes the same old paradox on my stubborn friend: bad jokes masking a mind too delicate for daylight.

After at least a couple years in the making, we finally intercepted good old Low Bat's transmission for Bamboo Shows. A culinary companion, expert in hay-matured duck, spinash dough, cheddar dashi or even olive-oil confection, and, while we're at it, a great musician (part of trystero, Andermole and Jean-Luc, handyman for Mutant Radio and former Berlin hell-raiser).

True to form, dear Louis provides with a dreamlike trip, via his 'Donkey Ride'. Drop the tab under the big pink, and take this stony cow-path along with him. Under the blazing sun, grass grows faster, emotions feel deeper, and the ordinary drifts far away. One hour of stretched melancholia, folk to lose yourself in the horizon, vivid synthwave and other oddities that gently blur reality.
