After a summer hiatus, we’re back to our guestmix series with Lyon-based project Jonnnah. Recently emerged from the abyss via a noteworthy debut-EP on Worst Records, the French Producer already distinguished himself with his own aesthetic, somewhere between emotive ambient, hyperrealistic textures, synths soarings and tumultuous drums, soon to be found on various labels.

For his Bamboo Show, Jonnnah took off from undisclosed lakes, skimming their surface for an aery, celestial hour of abstract waves and delicate lyricism. A few rhythmical drops disrupt these plain stretches of water, just to highlight the beauty of their usual undying stillness.

Soda Lite (they/them) lives on the small island of lutruwita (also known as Tasmania) and is deeply influenced by its cool climate rainforests, alpine plateaus and eucalypt valleys. They use music to communicate the unique lifeways of these environments to listeners elsewhere on earth. Soda Lite has recorded three full-length albums since 2017, releasing with notable ambient labels such as Constellation Tatsu and Inner Islands and the next record, entitled ‘Aqua Solar Cura’ is to be released in January 2022 on Not Not Fun.

Soda Lite provided a sweet contribution for Bamboo Shows to close the year peacefully. New age and minimalist ambient music from around the earth, moving slow like a mountain changing shape, or a lake growing warm in spring.

Let’s enter another weird year in the Bamboo zone with Catherine Danger. The Brussels-based producer and videographer tells us a story about deep America, the one that forgot – or refused – to climb on the 21st century’s bandwagon. Hidden from the web, hidden from our sight, yet forming a substantial part of the World’s greatest nation.
Fiends unwinding in remote junkyards, listening to some crackly tunes on rusty transistors, clinging to the good ol’ days, but was there even any? No job, no money, nothing to be diverted with, excepting the hits that warp both music and mind. A loop, day after day, in these desolated ratholes: the dope, the trip, the substance, the sleep. Merging folk with vaporous noise, jazz with psychedelic indus, pop standards with dark ambient. Replace life with a dazing void, leave your weary carnal envelope behind.

After creating in 2018 with Daya Hallé the audiovisual label 2files4free, but also contributing to several compilations in 2021 (Night On Earth, Night Drive, Krakzh, Vasteschoses), Catherine is now working on her first solo cassette for Simple Music Experience.

The LYL Radio resident and Bruits de la Passion feasts regular unleashes for Bamboo Shows the perfect soundtrack to a greek tragedy. Grandiloquent sounds, fresh blood springing from deadly brawls in vast amphitheaters. Mass hysterias, wine flowing like water, carrying away naked crowds from their lustful debaucheries. Somewhere are the ruins of a rave party, there you can finally fall asleep in the grass, stunned by the wailing sirens of these leftfield, rock, trance, acid and breaks odysseys.

After leaving some space for our Vapordub shoots to bloom peacefully throughout March and April, our guestmix series is back with OKO DJ alias Marine Tordjemann. Living in Athens, coming from Paris, the hyperactive artist is part and/or has been at the initiative of many influent projects over the past years. To name a few of them only: Brothers From Different Mothers, LYL Radio, Bruits de La Passion… No more name dropping as OKO DJ definitely carved herself a deserved place in the current international musical landscape.
However, we’d like to highlight (even if not much needed) two very personal projects of her own: The Pu$$y Nightmare party and radio show, to promote women and spirituality in the cultural and music scene, but also the inspiring music she’s been composing since 2020 and especially her ‘Dans les Lunes’ EP on Futur 2010.

Through this 76-minute recording, Marine offers an ad-lib flow of her mind-set back then: happiness, calmness, frustration, research, anxiety, doubt, love, and beauty. Thanks to her moving gathering of cherished, intimate gems, learn to free yourself both from past disillusions and overwhelming expectations.

Composed of Luigi Monteanni and Matteo Pennesi, the Italian duo has been producing uncanny music for many years, but also publishing some of the quirkiest through their inspiring ArteTetra Records label, or promoting it thanks to many collaboration with Kiosk Radio, NTS, The Wire, Sun Araw, Senyawa, C2C Festival, Fusion, Saturnalia, Outernational Days…

Recently featured on our Vapordub compilation via their mind-blowing, Jon-hassellish ‘Singe’s Riddles (Sunnityland Explorations in Padova)’ the Milanese dudes contributes today with an hour of Carnivalesque leftfield music: weird noise from the funny side, fifth-world and those beyond, not-so-traditional detuned folk, exotic chirps, beeps and blips. Only one intention: bringing together minor weirdelia projects and bands from the globe.
What if the noisy neighbors were the only neighbors you had? And what if they were waiting ’til dusk before bringing out their feathers and masks and torches and unsettling paraphernalia into parade? We don’t know, you tell us, but after you cross that threshold, we don’t really know where all might go.

At last! You’re finally escaping from this awful nightmare. Yes, Remember! You couldn’t find sleep yesterday night, so you took another heavy dose of tranquilizers. Then, you started meandering in your tiny flat before it all turned into an overwhelming world, full of hypnotizing forms and subliminal encounters.
Was it really a nightmare actually? Reality and fantaisies became one for sure, but think again, what flashed up before your eyes, wasn’t it actually the understanding of a greater, wider existence? Most probably, you simply opened the doors of perception. Now, you may realize where we all come from. Did you know that the nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made of collapsing stars?

Dear old shaman StaKhan from Lyon-hometown finally joins our guestmix series with one of his special vortexes. Collectedly on its way to its fifth anniversary, the Bamboo Shows guestmix series changes design today!
As we started writing short stories along with the mixes, we felt that it had also become necessary to illustrate them and free ourselves from the awesome artworks Johann Bonnefoy made for us back in 2019.

So, here we start with our 71st guestmix and Seoul-based Salamanda, composed of Uman Therma (Sala) & Yetsuby (Manda). Pretty well known from the leftfield ambient scene thanks to various self-releases and appearances on Good Morning Tapes, Sounds of Ogigia, Public Possession, the Korean-duo also contributed to our Vapordub compilation earlier this year with the wondrous and aptly named ‘Bubble Bamboo Princess’. 

Through this peaceful ballad in the whimsical land of Quitonia, Salamanda delivers the message that every sound has beauty. Whether ancient or newly published, traditional or uncanny, epic or calm. A blissful quest delving into neo-classical acts, spiritual ambient, otherworldly new-age and psychedelia. Keep your senses alert all through the ride, for there is so much to feel, hear and see.

If you had to guess, when the time comes for your last slumber, where do you think you'll wake up? Up above, along with the sun, finally relieved from a life of abstinence? Or down there, right at the center of the earth, as you gave in to temptation? But life isn't so much black and white, is it? In-between this binary conclusion, It's more than likely that we all walk another path, the one for the tormented souls who couldn't make up for their failures and mistakes. A haunted desert where we would all form a never-ending procession, our heads crimsoned by the heaven's eye looking down on us, while our feet come out in blisters from the fire and brimstone. Flames everywhere, burning everything. Flesh, bones, dreams, hope, altogether forming ash coated dunes. Look better, you might catch sight of a mirage there, probably the persistent nostalgia.

while we're looking to the near future and 'Charly Markarian - Jeunesse ne passe pas' publication, we're keeping an eye on the past. Inviting today on Bamboo Shows guestmix series dear metra.vestlud, who released last year on our label the magnificent 'Coalyqsta' cassette album. The Russian artist, through his 'Kundalini Shaktipata' mix, gathered 1 hour and 45 minutes of spiritual fourth-world, meditative drone, avant-garde jazz, neoclassical acts and blissful new-age... all explanations below:

"This mix is a ritual instrument aimed at awakening the hidden divine force - Kundalini - within a person.

There are two approaches to awakening Kundalini: active and passive.
The active approach includes yoga practices, meditation, and special breathing techniques.
The passive approach is when you need to surrender and let go of all obstacles on the path to awakening.
The key in the passive approach is Shaktipat. Shaktipat is a message, phrase, or word. In this case, this mix is a transmission of knowledge from higher consciousness.

Shaktipat only temporarily raises Kundalini but provides an experience that can be used as a foundation for further development.

Fluid, versatile, generous and resolutely freakish, Israfil evolves in a trippy and weirdo universe. Established for over 10 years as one of the pillars of Metaphore Collectif and their Meta haven of many fantasies, the Marseille's minot is well known for propagating the free parties and club scene tumultuous energy. Though, here a secret that's no secret: you can't resist the sweet song of the naiads when you've been facing the Mediterranean your whole life. Every now and then, Israfil opens the gates of his "Eden in a dream" mix series, broadcasting the blissfull sound from above. Today, the holy stream is on again for the fourth time, delivering one hour of delicate jazz, aerial trip-hop and downtempo serenades.

As always, we keep going on with our guestmix series, seemingly condemned to be interrupted by uncontrolled hiatuses. But who cares? We all enjoy a bit of freewheeling from time to time, right? 

Speaking of which, let’s introduce the not-so-all-here Gargantuan Grief and his schizophrenic mix, to mark the return from vacation. Apparently, coming back from Neverland was a bit too much to process for our little Peter Pan, who now looks determined to take it out on the good ole Bamboo Spirit. So sorry there ain’t no Tinker Bell anymore to look after you, amigo! 

Anyway, if you love dark, tense audio atmospheres in your ears, here’s a masterpiece of post-internet music, constantly flip-floping between emo-trap, metal-grazed breaks, noisy ambient and violent drum n bass, just like his legendary album on @dawnrecords. T.V.S.T. joins today with the unequivocal “Tv is Terrible” guestmix: a series of experimental experiences between ambient, percussion, musique concrete, post punk and avantgarde, brought to your attention via Hertzian transmission. Here, everything seems washed-out, as if the cassette tape of your life had become slack because of too many rewinds. It’s time to turn off the soporific, spiraling blue screen that has been sucking up your soul for so long. Maybe a bit of fresh air could perk up the sluggish gum hidden behind your bulging eyes?

T.V.S.T. is the fictitious pseudonym of the mastermind and subculturalist Franz Aembient of Kashual Plastik. A protagonist of the vibrant Neukölln scene, influential disc jockey and selector. Program Curator of arkaoda. He works out of Berlin and is involved in various music/art projects under several dozen mysterious names. With his own label Kashual Plastik, he experiments with an authentic DIY approach composed of an intriguing graphic aesthetic and a hard-to-categorize sound inspired by Punk, 80s Synth-wave, EBM, Electro as well as Noise, Ambient, Folk and Leftfield electronics.
