People pass by with a myriad of untold stories worthy of a New York Times bestseller...Time passes by as we repeat the human experience...The sense of belonging, the deep solitude, the excitement of falling in love, the pain of growing distant...I see you... We have so much in common yet no one sees what you see even if they see it too...
This life feels surreal like Earth is a place we stopped at on our road trip before we wake up early tomorrow morning and continue driving to wherever the final destination is set...Yet it’s real...The warmth and blinding brightness of the sun, the distant smell of the ocean eating the oxygen away...
Everything is a cycle – my book from Japan, my coffee from Colombia, and my cotton-made in America shirt...I wonder what our home is like...Is it full of long grass, flowers blooming in pastel colors, and waves softly crashing on the shore? Are there big mountains with strong winds at the top? Or maybe it does look just like our home, a large field surrounded by pine trees with three birch trees on the very edge...I would like it to have a few things for certain...

Schon in den ersten 30 Sekunden macht André Pahl klar - die Reise geht hoch hinaus, tief in die Zwischenlagen der kosmischen Sphären, quer durch die Wildnis, einmal zum Mond und wieder zurück. 

Der dritte Teil der „Auf Zu Neuen Dächern“ Serie lädt ein zur musikalischen Klangreise durch die Weiten der Pahl’schen Plattensammlung: ein Podcast voll tribalistischer Rhythmen, verhallten Streichern und wundersamen Klang-Artefakten aus lang verschollenen Kulturen. Wir beziehen unser Lager zwischen ersten Knospen im Klunkergarten und blinzeln in die Sonne - on our embankment - really high up.

"Unlike the other daytime curators, Lena Willikens chose to open La Sucrière's impressive main hall on Friday, playing alongside her usual back-to-back partner Vladimir Ivkovic. The two looked relaxed behind the decks, swaying, smoking and sometimes smiling. The crowd, less dense than during the other headliners due to the early start, were also in a good mood, using the extra space to feel out each beat of the slower selections. Much of the two hours felt like existing in the lagging moment of a sci-fi movie, just before a spaceship launches into warp speed (in a good way, I promise)."

Willikens & Ivkovic live at Nuits Sonores June 1st 2019

The last DRIFT of the decade has arrived in the form of a mix from producer Sordid Sound System. Originally hailing from Glasgow, he is now based in California and has released a stream of fantastic material on the Scottish label Invisible, Inc. This includes his most recent project, Cape Perpetua which came out last month and features 5 tracks including a remix from Sascha Funke and a collaboration with the wonderful Eva Geist! If you haven’t heard anything from Sordid Sound System or Invisible, Inc I’d strongly recommend checking them out – the ‘Lost Transmissions from the Off-World Territories’ compilation album was one of my favourites from the last decade and contains some truly other-worldly sounds.

For this mix, Sordid Sound System brings together a collection of influences: the dark and dreary Scottish winters that he grew up with combining with elements from his two year stay in Humboldt County in Northern California to produce a brilliant mix stamped with his trademark style. The start aims to paint a bleak and empty picture, strongly reflecting this time of the year. A notable track here is Nico’s ‘Chelsea Girls’ -  which Sordid Sound System cites as essential listening for the Winter months. After this, the mix progresses through a wonderfully eclectic mix of genres, continuing on one long nihilistic dub acid trip, twisting and turning while always remaining constantly exciting. This is his normal approach to crafting a mix and allows space for two of his own tracks to slot seamlessly into the blend! For me this psychedelic journey is one of the most refreshing and musically engaging mixes I’ve heard in a long time – don’t sleep!
