Premiere: Austin Hal - Another Life (Extended Mix)

Clubsonica Records continues a strong spring season by welcoming Airbas to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Italy, Roberto Sant began his musical journey playing piano as a child, before discovering electronic music in the early 90's, and shortly thereafter developing his skills as a DJ and producer. On the strength of recent releases via Freegrant Music and Hoomidaas, the Italian artist has become one of his country's most intriguing electronic music exports. With 2024 beginning with his latest Freegrant Music project, Airbas now continues on an upwards trajectory with his Clubsonica debut ‘We Are | Get Over You'. 

Beginning with ‘We Are', he utilizes the vocal talents of Eva Sizar to craft a soulful journey that should leave long-lasting memories. Airbas' warm key changing grooves and timeless tonal themes set the perfect foundation for Eva's memorable hooks to work their magic. She injects the piece with authentic soul and emotion, as Airbas' effortless sounding grooves and subtle musicality provide the perfect dance floor vehicle to deliver the tracks transcendent message. Airbas collaborates with Stephen Thomas Sims for the EP's second selection ‘Get Over You'. Following an intro of plush beats and rippling grooves comes a wave of warm overlays and delicate effects. Effortlessly rising, waves of percussion and rhythmic pulses set the stage for Stephen's sublime vocal chops to deliver inspired moments. Soulful and impassioned, the London resident's mystical phrasing highlights the piece, drifting across an underbelly of muted keys and rolling drums during the break, before a warm rush ushers in a glowing finale.

Returning to the label is Greenage. With well over a decade's worth of production credits, laying claim to a resume that includes releases for Mango Alley, Songuara, and Tale & Tone, while earning praise from Lee Burridge, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Now, finding his way back to the label, Greenage delivers a sultry remix of ‘We Are. Opting for a deeper, dubbier and more refined take on the track, he conveys the mood from the original beautifully, for a less vocally dominant, yet equally emotive and at times cosmic version that's perfect for the more astute dancefloors out there.

The final interpretation of ‘We Are' is provided by Lisandro. As a notable figure in music scoring for Netflix, he has also found a place in the world of organic house, a genre where his elusive vision has flourished., Lisandro's immaculate sound has found a place on Songuara, The Soundgarden and his own Flug Lab imprint. Now, he adds Clubsonica to his resume with a glowing take on ‘We Are'. Built beautifully across a whimsical first act, it's a gorgeous coax of glistening electronics and poignant chord changes which set the course for a memorable musical journey. A heartfelt break proves to be one of the most impactful parts of the creation, as a tasteful amalgamation of soaring vocals, muted keys and wispy effects provide moments of hope and reflection, before smoothly segueing into a finale that sounds tailor made for a morning or daytime dancefloor. 

The release concludes with Magitman. The Israeli artist has been a fixture of the electronic underground for well over a decade, laying claim to a portfolio that includes releases via DAYS like NIGHTS, Proton Music and Selador. Now, he makes a welcome return to Clubsonica with a groovy take on ‘Get Over You'. Drawing on the sensibilities of the original, the Israeli artist reworks the foundation with punchier kicks and tighter grooves. Resonating perfectly against a wall of effervescent arps are enlightening vocal phrases, striking at opportune moments, while perfectly married with sweeping effects and rejuvenating melodies, in turn creating a contrast of colour and musicality which pushes onwards to an uplifting finale.

The latest release from Ruben Karapetyan’s RKP welcomes Matt Oliver to the label for his debut EP. On the strength of early tracks such as 2021’s ‘Spirit’ and ‘Missing’, the Brazilian artist quickly caught the interest of progressive music fans. Having success marrying the nostalgic grooves of the genre with emotional melodies and club-effective rhythms, Matt became a newcomer to watch. The next two calendar years would see Matt continue to perfect his craft, and in turn land standout projects via long-standing imprints such as BCSA, Mango Alley, The Purr and Transensations. Now, as one Brazil’s top progressive house prospects, Matt adds RKP to his resume with ‘Collison’, alongside remixes from The Wash and Anton MAKe. 

Matt continues to explore his groovy style on his latest studio offering ‘Collision’. Deep and fluid throughout, it's a framework of warm kick drums and mesmerizing rhythms which lay the foundation for flashing percussion, cross-cultural accents and soulful overlays to create a smooth first act. A darker monochrome of effects adds further depth and space, as melodies open up and push the journey forward, bringing with them a cruising vibe leading into the break. Keeping rhythm locked across the interlude, Matt showcases his keen dancefloor sensibility, in turn building anticipation with clustered drums,before eventually shifting energy into a finale that is equal parts effortless and uplifting.

The first interpretation of ‘Collision’ is provided by The Wash who makes his label debut. As a DJ first, Austrian artist The Wash has spent nearly two decades in the electronic music underground. A ten-year stretch as a DJ would find the Vienna resident programming music for some of his country’s trendiest venues, before eventually embarking on a career as a producer in 2016. The next seven years would see The Wash build an enviable portfolio, highlighted by releases via Forensic , UV and Mango Alley, the latter of which operates as his primary home. With a contribution to Global Underground’s ‘Select’ series to begin the year, The Wash now adds RKP to his resume with a huge interpretation of ‘Collision’. Opting for a dubbier, more groove-centric approach, The Wash aims squarely at the dancefloor, taking the track into subversive territory, as haunting overlays and deconstructed sonics converge for an otherworldly experience, while an acid-tinged break fully saturates your senses onwards to a trippy finale. 

The release concludes with Anton MAKe also making his label debut with the second and final interpretation of ‘Collision’. Russian artist Anton MAKe crafts music that is both groovy and musical, often incorporating vocal elements to create a different level of depth and space. First emerging nearly a decade ago, the Kazan resident would rise into one of progressive music’s top tier artists with releases via Juicebox Music, Mango Alley, Proton Music, Replug, WARPP and most recently Analog Jungs Constellation imprint. Now, as a longtime favourite of Cid Inc, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, Anton debuts on RKP with a groovy take on ‘Collision’. Mysterious and thought-provoking throughout, it's a heady amalgamation of sound which makes for a club-effective yet uniquely rhythmic journey, elegantly flowing through uplifting melodic clusters and hopeful overlays, before a set of fuzzed-out chord stabs highlights an immersive break, perfectly setting up a thumping finale to close the release out on a groovy note.
