Aasaa:

ਲੰਕਾ ਸਾ ਕੋਟੁ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸੀ ਖਾਈ ॥
la(n)kaa saa koT samu(n)dh see khaiee ||
ਜਿਸ ਰਾਵਣ ਦਾ ਲੰਕਾ ਵਰਗਾ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਸੀ, ਤੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਰਗੀ (ਉਸ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਲਈ) ਖਾਈ ਸੀ, 
A fortress like that of Sri Lanka, with the ocean as a moat around it

ਤਿਹ ਰਾਵਨ ਘਰ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
teh raavan ghar khabar na paiee ||1||
ਉਸ ਰਾਵਣ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਅੱਜ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ।੧।
- there is no news about that house of Raavan. ||1||

ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਈ ॥
kiaa maagau kichh thir na rahaiee ||
ਮੈਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ) ਕਿਹੜੀ ਸ਼ੈ ਮੰਗਾਂ? ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੈ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ;
What shall I ask for? Nothing is permanent.

ਦੇਖਤ ਨੈਨ ਚਲਿਓ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dhekhat nain chalio jag jaiee ||1|| rahaau ||
ਮੇਰੇ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਂਹਦਿਆਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I see with my eyes that the world is passing away. ||1||Pause||

ਇਕੁ ਲਖੁ ਪੂਤ ਸਵਾ ਲਖੁ ਨਾਤੀ ॥
eik lakh poot savaa lakh naatee ||
ਜਿਸ ਰਾਵਣ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਲੱਖ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਸਵਾ ਲੱਖ ਪੋਤਰੇ (ਦੱਸੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ), 
Thousands of sons and thousands of grandsons

ਤਿਹ ਰਾਵਨ ਘਰ ਦੀਆ ਨ ਬਾਤੀ ॥੨॥
teh raavan ghar dheeaa na baatee ||2||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੀਵਾ-ਵੱਟੀ ਜਗਦਾ ਨਾਹ ਰਿਹਾ ।੨।
- but in that house of Raavan, the lamps and wicks have gone out. ||2||

ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤਪਤ ਰਸੋਈ ॥
cha(n)dh sooraj jaa ke tapat rasoiee ||
(ਇਹ ਉਸ ਰਾਵਣ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਸੋਈ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ,
The moon and the sun cooked his food.

ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਪਰੇ ਧੋਈ ॥੩॥
baisa(n)tar jaa ke kapare dhoiee ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਬੈਸੰਤਰ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਧੋਂਦਾ ਸੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਰਾਵਣ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪੋਤਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਦਿਨੇ ਰਾਤ ਰਸੋਈ ਤਪਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਅੱਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਭੱਠੀਆਂ ਚੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ) ।੩।
The fire washed his clothes. ||3||

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਸਾਈ ॥
guramat raamai naam basaiee ||
(ਸੋ) ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਜਗਤ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, 
Under Guru's Instructions, one whose mind is filled with the Lord's Name,

ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥
asathir rahai na katahoo(n) jaiee ||4||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਅਡੋਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਭਟਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।੪।
becomes permanent, and does not go anywhere. ||4||

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਲੋਈ ॥
kahat kabeer sunahu re loiee ||
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਸੁਣੋ, ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਲੋਕੋ! 
Says Kabeer, listen, people:

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥੮॥੨੧॥
raam naam bin mukat na hoiee ||5||8||21||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ) ।੫।੮।੨੧।
without the Lord's Name, no one is liberated. ||5||8||21||
