Sevensol is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic figures to have garnered the support of music heads in recent years. He’s now based in Berlin, and a purveyor of the finest house, with a long-standing collaboration with Map.ache titled Manamana, a third of the duties at record label KANN and now Long Vehicle vying for his attention; when he isn’t enchanting crowds at De School or Nachtdigital that is. There’s nothing pretentious about him or his craft, just fun, unfussy, pleasure-inducing house with a measure of emotion woven through his mixes. Uplifting beats for breezy summer nights - if you’re looking for the perfect score for the coming months, Sevensol has you more than covered. Bassiani Podcast 176 is a cut from his set at the Morevi Records night back in June at Horoom. One that charms and channels the kind of pure optimistic peak time energy that's sure to get you moving. Berlin-based Resom’s meandering electronics have guested the Bassiani Podcast a couple of times, here she gets lost in thought once more for Zenaari Mix 005. This one’s far from a wool-gathering exercise, her selection and mixing are deep, provocative, and wonderfully percipient, little else to expect from someone whose path has encompassed so many different areas. Her work confidently mines a wealth of experience across club residencies and activism, and delivers results that are a pure joy to witness. This one covers every base, from softly gliding synths to slightly more controlled percussive meditations, an exploration of heterogeneous bleeps and ruminant echoes, a dreamy IDM waltz that's worth its weight in silicon.

Monument Festival 2023 : Yan & Alfred Czital

Milan based duo Simone Baratta and Nicolò Chenet are the force behind mysterious DJ outfit Orion. Alongside their principal cognomen, active since 2018, they’ve also banded together with Giegling’s Ateq as Pale Product for further excursions into their sonic universe. As a pair they’ve been largely flying under the radar, but perhaps not for long, their all too danceable sound is a deep, persistent fusion of influences destined for the club (take their residency at Milanese haunt Vitamina for instance). You could add their eponymous label to that too, where a growing number of ‘slow-release’ records attest to their predilection for quality over quantity. Bassiani Podcast 185 is their live set recorded at Horoom mid-September: think intimate and smoke-filled afterhours gatherings and pure camaraderie among a close-knit group of ravers. A high spirited trip across the dancefloor from saturated and dubby ambient to Detroit inclinations, courtesy of this budding techno pairing.

Zenaari mix 006 is a waltzing quest through heartfelt and colorful soundscapes, archival sounding vocals to droning pads, and melancholy synths that roll in and out like waves lapping on a cosmic shore. Contemplative electronic soundtrack for both mind and soul, a crowning addition to the Zenaari event series’ fledgling oeuvre.

Gigi Jikia has been a part of the Bassiani story since its earliest beginnings. Following his breakthrough as half of double-act Okinawa Lifestyle, he took his own turn as HVL in 2013 and has more than proved his mettle over the last decade with a sound that is inseparable from his Tbilisi roots. Every set and release adding a little more to the mythos surrounding the Georgian capital and his adoptive club. He often works outside strict genre confines though frequently opting for more percussive fare, which makes this pivot from his more dance focused tendencies a welcome riff on his body of work. Zenaari mix 007 is a meditation on HVL’s slower and more introspective influences, a deeply emotional collection of ambient echoes and phantom frequencies, muffled sampling and groaning melodies: food for thought, if not the heartstrings.

A member of New York City’s Georgian diaspora, 98dots (aka Nikoloz Gedevanishvili) is an expert in the art of getting a crowd moving. This is one of the freshest names to have come out Georgia in recent times, a slick mover whose confident selections are the makings of dancefloor legend. Aside from occasional DJ outings for The Lot Radio, you can also sometimes find him at The Big Apple’s hottest clubs and back on home turf at Horoom. Bassiani Podcast 191 is a fast burner, clocking in at 1h 24m, every minute as effortlessly cool as the one that came before it, full of moving parts that dance in perfect sync: gliding beats, notes of acid, something gripping and urban in its DNA, a forward-facing studio mix from this amazing local talent.

Simone Baratta and Nicolò Chenet’s Orion is back on podcast duties, this time for experimental series Zenaari. The tandem’s dancier inclinations are a little more explored, but here they’re given space to investigate another raft of musical leanings. This one’s quite special, and a good example for what the Zenaari concept is at heart: a cross-genre exploration in sound that pushes the limits of established taste and composition, and above all provokes thought. Loaded with ideas, this foray spans a breadth of references, from Hasselian drones, to creaking melodies, to downtempo Italian crooning, and leaves out hi-tech mixing and glitzy effects in favour of a more raw and bluntly sequential approach to mix building. In truth, the pair have rifled through an eclectic archive of music from their native land and created an extraordinary emotional collage that’s heavy on nostalgia without tipping the scales too far into sentimentality. Affecting, but with the occasional flutter of a bassline as a reminder that this polymath duo’s there pulling the levers. Zenaari Mix 008 is a nonpareil mix from this enigmatic Milanese duo, one that’s sure to leave a mark.
