I don’t think I’ve posted a cover before so here's one written by one of my songwriting heroes, Lori McKenna. To my knowledge it’s never actually been recorded in a studio, I only heard a live version of it over the Summer on a Malcolm Gladwell podcast I listen to called “Broken Record” (Episode S02E05):

Confession: The first time I heard it I had to pull my car over and cry it out. My wife makes fun of me for being more sentimental than she is (see our "Bye Bye Love" video LOL). I'm always saving little things our kids make for us, or old clothes that they’ve long since grown out of. It all just happens so fast it makes my head spin, and no matter how much you try to freeze time, you CAN'T STOP IT! So whether you’re a parent, or a kid who loves your parents — this one is for you!

From my understanding Lori wrote it with her songwriting partners Hillary Lindsey, and Liz Rose (together they call themselves The Love Junkies), all of whom were writing it with different aged loved ones in mind. Maybe that’s why it hit me so hard… or maybe it’s because of a BIG birthday I just celebrated recently — let’s just say it put me in a new age group — but whatever it was, it just says everything I want to say to my kiddos daily. It’s my dream to write songs this beautiful every time I pick up a pen or an instrument. I hope to someday share a room with songwriters who are so open and honest about what they're going through. Just beautiful, thanks to the writers!
