Working Title; a project in co-curation

In the postmodern world of today, the work of curators has become increasingly diverse. The job content has shifted from a simple model of guarding, keeping or acquiring a collection, to a compound model, adding the possibility of acquiring a semi celebrity status identity.

We are part of a generation that has spent their childhood growing up with an invisible third parent, the internet. We are able to discover music faster and easier than ever before. But even with all these options, an individual curator can never truly see the whole picture.

The idea for this project is simple and goes as follows;
Instead of curating artists ourselves, we will have others curate together. Our project can be seen as an exercise in joint curatorship. We have invited fourteen different collectives, labels and individuals who in their turn curated one artist.

"Lyse is an album I made in the summer of 2016, but it feels like the winter to me now. I like to say it like “lice.” The music in the album seems dented all over to me. When I listen to it I think about: DVD menus and trailers for movies I’ve never seen. Listening to jumpstyle in the car with a seatbelt on. Getting angry in the basement playing a video game. It’s surface tension and pin pricks, a habit-ridden rush. 

7038634357 is my phone number. I like thinking that the number wriggles out of the grasp of something like ownership, though: I don’t own it and it’s not really mine. I started using the number for things because I always liked typing on a number pad better. I felt fast—like I was really fitting my hand into something. It also worked in my head for music, because it didn’t feel deceptive as an alias. I didn’t feel like I could hide my identity as a white kid making dance music. The number felt very personal, but not permanent or essential. The funny part to me was thinking about how anyone who listened to the music and who had access to a phone had a way to contact me about it, if they wanted. Let me know what they thought, check in on me. I guess it’s a kind of failure in that way. if people use it, it’s just to see if it’s real, to ask me if it’s real. I think it’s definitely real."

In an effort to give back to our community, which has been hit hard during Covid-19, over the past month, we’ve been collecting unreleased tracks from some of our favorite musical artists. ALL of the money raised through this purchase will go to the Artist Relief Project, which was created to help artists in need during Covid-19.

Sirens Scrapyard takes form as a digital album with an A and B side. Side A takes listeners on an emotionally ambient ride and Side B celebrates high energy rave hymns.

Europa is a moniker of a German-born, Paris-based but World-souled artist and musician Moritz Haas. After engaging in music making for quite some time, he describes his recent work as being created lightweightly, on the go, often just with a laptop on his legs, rushing from one place to another. This unsettled rhythm of shattered landscape quickly passing by and changing into fragments of impressions and memories opens itself into a rushing tunnel of different genres, melting tender melodies with angry beats and diverse cultural and linguistic references, transporting the listener to surprisingly vivid musical and political landscapes. Echoing our broken cultures torn into sharp yet fragile pieces, his music scatters samples across multiple layers and merges them into new constellations of united yet eclectic harmonies hitting you to the very core. Evoking the now rare and fading pre-viral flashbacks of muffled sounds escaping the dance floor through chattering window glass at a foggy dawn, Europa’s music resonates with pressing melancholy that doesn’t leave us dwelling in apathy but makes our hearts beat in the frenetic urgent rhythm of possible change. The present EP seethes with this ever-transforming fiery energy, fulfilling Europa's own words: “ I guess I've always been trying to hunt after that hybrid moment of blissful rave and melodrama. Maybe something I lost somewhere on the way and try to keep burning.”
