OECUS Podcast #250 with LYRIC

LYRIC, comprised of both Lyza & Ericson, started their project in 2019. Both are inspired by the groove and have multiple releases showcasing their take on this sub-genre. Their sets are fast and catchy while maintaining a steady rhythm. They are members of the Berliner Selected Crew, which has its place in the Revier Südost and residents at Klub PAN in their former hometown Hannover.

After an eventful period, we’re back with the FrenzyPodcast series. This week we’ve invited the Hannover-born Berlin-based duo Lyric. Lyric is formed by Lyza and Ericson, who translate their shared passion for the rhythmic and rolling techno to the dancefloor as residents for Selected (Berlin). Besides bringing their flow through mixes and sets, Lyric also show their potential with their recent releases on Selected and Room Lab, among others.

We are joined by Amsteram-based emerging talent Beste Hira for this episode, who pampers us with an hour of finely selected tunes. Hailing from Istanbul, she received a formal music education at the Mersin Fine Arts High School, focusing on classical piano and cello. After continuing her musical education at Ondokuz Mayıs University, where she has successfully graduated from the Department of Music, she decided to take a different path, now pursuing electronic music and moving to Amsterdam. It wasn't long before she found her footing, quickly playing alongside renowned collectives like Orphic Amsterdam and Vault Sessions. Her driving and groovy and dark sound is infectious and 100% danceable.

I am usually not a fan of sharing online the experience of a live set. The emotion, energy and aurea of that moment is something that cannot be grasped with a simple click. 
However, since the moment I touched the decks during this mix, I intuitively knew it was going to be something special… something which I would be happy for those who were not there to partially feel, listen and enjoy. This set includes a selection of my favorite tracks from this year -some older some newer- and all fundamental to create a linear, coherent story.

Drum-fuelled tribal grooves, rugged early house manoeuvres, possessed machine funk, Berg runs the hoodoo down like a thrill-deprived stuntman, eager to pack the world’s whole field of energies in just two hours of music. The result is no short of breath-taking, sharp as a knife and well, exhaustingly gratifying.
