Podcast № 35 comes from non other than @JPEnfant who's musical philosophy is as clear-cut as his DJ sets and productions. The affable Artist, that has a love for long dj-sets and all nighters, is on a fast track to become an influential figure in techno. His idiosyncratic style: steaming and slightly melancholic techno made for the dance floor, alongside the odd excursion to forward-thinking ambient and bass.  

At the age of fourteen, he had his first encounter with turntables and records. After gaining some experience in his hometown Breda, his DJing started to take shape when moving to Amsterdam. It was here that he got acquainted to the likeminded souls, with whom he would establish a collective, the part record label, part promoter, that would solidify his place in the Amsterdam dance scene:  LET – Les Enfants Terribles. 

After hosting several successful LET events in Amsterdam, it was Club Trouw that opened its doors to the organisation. Trouw was pivotal in JP’s personal path. He became a resident at the legendary club at the age of 21. The club acted as a safe haven in several ways allowing JP to experiment. This resulted in hosting a more explorative club-night Psychedelic Romance. It was this night, where he could present an interesting and uncommon mix of Techno- and UK-bass artists, and also laid fundament for a future project.

When Trouw closed, JP got a first hour residency at the clubs highly anticipated successor; De School. The pitch-black basement in Amsterdam was probably where his music resonated most and where he was able to take the freedom to discover new musical grounds.

And yet another Berlins sloping upward talent joins Hapësira podocast series, @cecilia_berlin who's mom of the collective SEV Berlin, provides (in collaboration with different established artists and manager from the scene) practical and theoretical knowledge to facilitate independence in club culture. It not only supports newcomers in various formats (events, workshops, talks), but also promotes exchange among the players in club culture.

She has been DJing internationally for four years now and since then every year her BPM strangely increases by an average of 4 BPM.

She started with Deep House and Dub Techno, today she mainly plays Minimal, Dub and mainly Techno. Her debut EP „Run With The Wolves“ came out in the beginning of this year on her freshly baked record label SEV Records.

The last and so far biggest project she started in collaboration with other collectives is the new open air space CURA Berlin. There she takes over the booking and other duties.

Some dancefloors she played: Wilde Renate, Garbicz Festival, Golden Gate, Douala, Sputnik/Tel Aviv, Pergamon/Jerusalem, Crie de la Mouette/Toulouse, HÖR Berlin.

Spanish-born, Berlin-based Alienata is a self-described sound obsessive whose sets span obscure electro, ACID, dub, IDM, dark disco, jakbeat, hypnotic techno, industrial atmospheres, break beats, cosmic jazz , UK electro, Detroit, Chicago influences and crazy sounds in general. 
A former philosophy student with a particular interest in mysticism, Alienata began DJing in 2004.
She has played at many festivals and clubs such as Krake Festival, Panorama Bar, Suicide Club, Corsica Studios, ADE and Fabric. When behind the decks, Alienata is closely attuned to both internal and external influences, and is unconcerned with providing listeners with an outstanding and energetic experience. It is not strange that legends  like Dave Clarke ( who recently played a B2B in ADE ) DJ Stingray, Ben Sims or Ron Morelli have expressed all their support and respect for her.
With all that knowledge behind and a true love for music she decided to start her own imprint “Discos Atónicos” in 2017 where she can materialize all its varied influences, counting on legendary artists like Beta Evers, Dez Williams, Artificiero, BS-1 or Cosmic Force.
While primarily focusing on DJing, Alienata has released a few different records & remixes in recent years with collaborations with Snuffo of the jacking Snuff Crew & Sync24 -CEO of the legendary UK electro imprint Cultivated Electronics- Her most recent contribution has been to the great Ben Sims ‘Tribology’ Compilation, together with artists of the size of Robert Hood, James Ruskin or Mark Broom.
Since 2017 she hosts a monthly show called ‘Nova Express’ on the French LYL radio.

The 12th episode of Connwax Selected comes from our dear resident https://soundcloud.com/carlotta-jacobi, who is a Leipzig-based DJ* and producer. She has recorded a mix that „listeners could dive into but also get energized by“. We’ve asked her a few questions about what this strange year has been like for her, why it rather felt like the opposite from stagnant for her and what change she would wish to see in the electronic music scene in future. 

Hello Carlotta, how are you doing? What is your current mood in these crazy times? 

CJ: Hi there! Thanks, personally I am feeling quite well right now. But also ambivalent, given the current situation of corona being very present in our lives. Like for many people my mood is changing frequently these days (sometimes hour by hour). But right now I am fine and excited about this mix to be released! 

You have not been idle lately, despite closed clubs and cancelled gigs. What's been going on with you and what's still to come?

CJ: Indeed several gigs I had been looking forward to had to be cancelled or postponed, and I miss playing for a crowd and being in a club. At the same time, the past year has not felt like a standstill to me: As a side effect of having far fewer occasions to DJ, I’ve had the chance to focus a lot more on producing my own music - and releasing some of it! Even though I got into producing in 2014, it took me a long time to feel at ease with putting my music out. This year I finally took the step and have not regretted it for a second ever since. In July I released my ambient-ish track „Meander“ on a compilation by Human Leipzig and in November my friend Lilly and I contributed our track „Endurance“ to the second VAK sampler. But to me the most shaping and illuminating work was the first live set that Lilly and I created in autumn. In the past weeks I submitted several final versions of tracks that will be released in the course of 2021.  

Would you say that electronic music is undergoing a certain change, which will fundamentally change the scene? 

CJ: I do strongly hope that the field of electronic (dance) music (production) is becoming more diverse and aware of its own structural sexism. For instance, it’s really tiresome and frustrating to look for new music and find very few releases by female or queer producers (if at all) on the majority of techno labels. While there are some! I would love to see the music industry become more balanced in this regard, in order to encourage even more non-cis-male persons to get involved and visible! 

Tell us something about your podcast. Is there a certain concept or a basic idea behind it?

CJ: When I conceptualized this podcast, I was a bit torn between selecting dance floor oriented music or doing something entirely else, that would fit the situation of mostly having to stay at home. I decided for something in between - something listeners could dive into but also get energized by.
