Rummaging through my Hard Drive and I came across this song. It's rather beautiful I think, if overly romantic. Probably early 2000—so Roland Super JV Pianos, Jupiter 6, Cheetah MS6 and my '80s Squire Strat with chorus. Vocal mic was probably a OKTAVA MK-219. there's an E-Bow and a lack of HPF! Keyboard reverb was probably a Yamaha Promix for the vocals a Roland SRV 330. Recorded onto that then new-fangled Pro Tools hardware using E-Magic Logic.

Refuge

Recorded in 1992, this was originally a Silas song, with lyrics written by the keyboard player Chris Hylton, and was the beginning of serious recording of the Earthstone concept. However, precisely because it was a Silas song we decided not to include it on the album. Vocals and bass by Paul 'Wil' Redden.

Somewhere near the North Norfolk coast lie the ruins of Burning Chrome Studio. Although only abandoned in 2005 the converted WW2 bunker that housed the studio has already succumbed to the elements. Masses of barbed brambles block the old doorway and a thick mat of moss and aromatic pine needles covers the crumbling concrete floors. It will soon be nothing more that a featureless mound in a densely wooded landscape. 

Presented here are the studio archives, rescued from cassettes, CDs and DAT tapes, they represent over two decades of recordings made in the studio by individual musicians, bands and friends working together on projects. Some are completed finely crafted pieces, some recordings of live rehearsals, some merely unfinished rough sketches and ideas. The original recordings vary greatly in quality having been made on a variety of equipment over the years, ranging from a 4 track cassette machine through 8-track reel to reel, direct to DAT recordings from sequenced synthesisers, ADATs and finally DAWs.
