Hélène Seiyu Codjo is a Shakuhachi Master (Japanese Bamboo Flute) and multi-flutist.

During her career in classical music (Western flute), she discovered and learned to play different world flutes, until specialising in Japanese music (Hijiri-Kai, school founded by  Fukuda Teruhisa). She has been invited to perform and teach at international festivals in Paris, London, Vejle, Prague. 
Since 2017, she has been composing music for solo shakuhachi.  The Zen spirituality of the flute is essential for her ("Japanese Meditations"). 
More recently, she finds her inspiration through exploring her African roots and the possibility of the shakuhachi ("African Memories").
She lives and works in the Netherlands.

Ethnomusicologist, musicker, sax player, ethnographer, dabbler, noodler, Maker, French-speaker.

Bruno Deschenes is a shakuhachi player living in Montreal. He also has developped an expertise as an ethnomusicologist, specialist in Japanese traditional music and aesthetic. He is also the artistic director of the Matsu Take Ensemble (that you can also hear on SoundCloud). Lately he has released a solo CD of honkyoku pieces for shakuhachi from the solo repertoire created by Zen buddhist monks in Japan. 

I am an independent artist mainly involve with music and poetry. Currently I am studying Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology in the University of Athens. I earn my living from teaching music lessons: tonal and modal harmony, counterpoint, electric guitar, improvisation and theory. As an artist and music composer I draw my inspiration from the traditional music of different cultures, mostly from Middle and Far Eastern countries. Generally speaking, my main influences derive from the musical cultures of: Celtic, Spanish, Bulgarian, South African, Turkey, India, Tibet, China, Java and Japan. Approaching the ritualistic elements of all these traditions with a postmodern attitude meet my high goal as an artist and human being.
