Thank Goodness for Piccadilly Records: their weekly mail-out saved the day. Watch out for the raucous opener from Lightfoils, but then you can ease back in your seat for Bdrmm's more poppy sounds and some dreamy electro pop from White Flowers (think Cocteau Twins meet Low). AT this point you should put on your (House/Electronic) dancing shoes for Shinichi Atobe and keep them on for Lee Kelly, the slightly quirky sounds of Erol Alkan, Rival Consoles, Gabriele Poso, Kalbata & Mayaan Nidam, before chilling out to the closing sounds of Ian Eccles-Smith. I'm a big admirer of White Flowers, and I do like the Erol Alkan and Ian Eccles-Smith tracks, but Lee Kelly's "Our Place in Time" gets this week's best track pick. (EDIT: White Flowers track was later pulled from Soundcloud)

Longtime friends The Weather Station and Jennifer Castle, two of the greatest working songwriters and poetic voices in Canada—or anywhere on this blighted, beautiful planet—have recorded a miraculous, magical pair of songs together, available to stream and purchase today. The Weather Station’s “I Tried to Wear the World (featuring Jennifer Castle)” and Jennifer Castle’s “Midas Touch (featuring The Weather Station)," two sides of the same tarnished gold coin of sorrowfully sweet sentiments, were recorded in a single day at Sugar Shack studio in London, Ontario this past August. Captured by videographer Colin Medley, this represents their first-ever studio collaboration and the third edition of the Polaris Collaboration Sessions.

This song is our party song. This is our jam. It was inspired by late nights in our Brooklyn studio with all of our friends selecting and playing random disco and funk records from our collection.... from old James Brown to Chic to god knows what else. It talks about “A Real Woman,” but it’s really about anyone who’s real, who knows themselves, and who doesn’t give a fuck what anyone else thinks. It’s a celebration about embracing individuality because there’s nothing sexier than that.
