For its next release, the resurgent Deeplay Digital offers up three new versions of a classic and previously unreleased (on 12” at least) disco-fried Giorgio Moroder track in the form of ‘Utopia – Me Giorgio’. The remixer is Opilec Music boss, I-Robots, who has reworked classic Moroder material before and who is a huge fan of the disco and electronic music pioneer Einzelgänger.

The concept of this release was simply to create longer versions of the track that was originally included in the From Here To Eternity partially mixed album – incredibly no one else has officially done this since the original release date in 1977. Importantly, though, because the track is so seminal, the remixes are all hugely sympathetic affairs that don’t change the atmosphere or intentions of the original artist.

Up first is the ‘I-Robots 1977 Reconstruction’, which has just seen the original extended from 3:23 minutes to almost 7 minutes (all these reconstructions are long). The result is a fantastic thing that is now perfectly suited to club play with fulsome modern production, a revisited version that is a perfect reinterpretation maintaining the spirit of the ’77 original.

For the ‘I-Robots 2014 Tape Reconstruction’, the remixer had a dream that he found an old original Moroder tape in a flea market and used it to beef up this track. The addition of analog tape background noise gives the mix a dirty and dusty vintage sound and as such it now has a strong and powerful impact with infectious drums, frazzled synth lines and plenty of meaty disco dazzle.

Finally, The ‘I-Robots 2014 Reconstruction’ is the clean version of the Tape Reconstruction with a powerful tech-house beat underpinning it, making it the version most suited to heavy dancefloor usage.

The vinyl release includes only the 1977 and the 2014 Tape Reconstructions and is handled exclusively by Opilec Music.

This Soft Machine (aka Tim Sullivan) returns to Eskimo Recordings with a highly charged slice of psychedelictinged modern disco, with remixes from Japanese artist https://soundcloud.com/chida73 and USA born https://soundcloud.com/avalonemerson. Created entirely by Tim and his band using analogue equipment, ‘It’s Operational’ follows on from last year’s double sided release ‘On & On / This Place Was Meant For Me.’

An irresistible fusion of disco, house and and chiming nu Balearic pop ’It’s Operational ’ is sure to place This Soft Machine firmly back within the contemporary dance music scene, with music that “consists solely of sounds recorded by human hands”. His previous release on Eskimo was met with high acclaim, with the accompanying video premiering on FACT magazine and the past year saw him supporting Carl Craig, DARKSIDE, Tim Sweeney, Flight Facilities and Chris Liebing on stage.

Tim met CHIDA after moving to Tokyo in 2009, describing the Japanese pioneer as “a guy with a huge smile and a great music knowledge to match”. He speeds things up with his cut, delivering an impressive, theatrical remix. CHIDA has been repping the Tokyo underground music scene for over twenty years and is founder of the much hyped label Ene.

Creating a darker and unyielding remix, Avalon Emerson was recently described as one of the “new leading ladies in underground dance ”. Avalon originally fed her appetite to DJ in the San Francisco party scene. Now  based in Berlin she has played alongside Erol Alkan and Fort Romeau.

Featuring phenomenal fecundity and remarkable talent, Konstantin Isaev aka Volta Cab, is one of the few russian artists, was able to win real recognition on the world stage. Discography measured in dozens of original tracks and remixes, mostly vinyl, including Isaev, Tokma and Common People aliases. Among the musical landmarks of Volta Cab are, on the one hand – a proven classic disco and detroit house like Motor City Drum Ensemble; on the other hand, Volta Cab’s music does not have any limits, flirting with lo-fi, hip-hop, stupefying balearic and chicago house chords, futuristic 2-step and post- jazz side of the garage. Only he can simultaneously publish a proto-jungle at UK Hypercolour, and mutant disco at respected label Eskimo. He prefers to play live-acts with his own eclectic vision of electronic music.

With  forthcoming releases on Nein, Bordello A Parigi and Dalmata Daniel, Volta Cab is one of the producers to watch from East Europe.

Whilst laying down the foundations in cult Melbourne bands NO ZU and World’s End Press, the release of two EPs under the moniker Statue has solidified it’s presence within Melbourne’s dance music culture. Base and Face are site-specific structures created for the club. The Base and Face are fundamental elements of a Statue whilst also referring to the facial contortions that occur in the club during the early hours of the morning. Commissioned by Cin Cin, Statue casts a peculiar shadow on the dance floor. Come visit.

Andre VII - Discoteca Clandestina (Original Mix)

The Mansisters is the new moniker of Scandinavian duo Kasper Bjørke and Jon Atli / Sexy Lazer, a pair who have both had previous successes as producers recording for the likes of Steve Bug’s HFN label, Compost Black and Plant. Now, so the story goes, they have joined forces and set up camp together in a huge Copenhagen mansion where they live with a host of plastic & porcelain animals, apparently not having time for real pets due to their dancefloor commitments! For recreation they work out in their own basement gym, which they have titled The Ryan Gosling Gym Club (RGGC), here they spend 4 tough sessions a week trying to look a little more like Ryan Gosling in the movie Crazy Stupid Love and a little less like fat 30 something DJs!

The sisters have already been playing together as DJs all over Copenhagen & beyond, including the Distortion Festival, Roskilde Festival, Airwaves Festival in Reykjavik and Gewolbe in Cologne and decided that they needed some new climatic secret weapons for their set. So they locked themselves into their brand new hi-tech in-house studio and set about recording their debut release, the ‘E.P. Phone (EP)’.

The release kicks off with ‘Izone’ a record reportedly inspired by the sounds of Boyzone but sounding more like a twisted journey into the underbelly of dark electro disco with it’s pitch shifted vocals, machine gun fills and eerie riffs, quality stuff. Next up we have ‘Lille Du’, described by The Mansisters as ‘Icelandic rap meets space techno from Texas’ the record revolves around an arpeggiated baseline, electro fueled drums and soaring synth lines. ‘Free at last’ steps up next with the Mansisters layering the charged political speech of a young African girl over their own spiky and intense future techno. The final cut on the vinyl is the electro-tastic workout ‘Theme of Haris Pilton’ (apparently the name of the porcelain dalmation featured on the record sleeve), here the duo fuse brooding melodies with shuffling rhythms to create a final opus for the 12”. The digital package also comes with an instrumental version of ‘Izone’ for those of you who prefer things a little less vocal.

My Favorite Robot Records have done it again with an act that are sure to be making waves for years to come, enjoy!
