'Spirit Allies', the newest offering from multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Heather Christie. The music is an exploration of about the forces in your life, both seen and unseen, that support you. These are the forces that have your back through your darkest nights and your richest light filled hours. These allies may find expression through your ancestors or through magick made manifest in your life. They may manifest through your devotion and faith or through your reverence for the earth and the plants and animals that constitute it's environment. You may feel the support of these spirit allies through a cause you believe in deeply or through the devas and gods that sit at the gateway between realms.  

It’s likely you don’t understand the exact nature of these forces but instead intuit their presence indirectly. There is always something present which pulls from your depths like a sinewy fabric that wraps around the core of you, guiding you forward to achieve your goals and dreams. Maybe these spirit allies manifest as a whisper in your ear when you know you are moving in the right direction. How do you identify with your spirit allies?

This musical journey is an invitation to open to the influence of these spirit allies so that they may offer support to you for your mission here on earth.

Musically, I wanted to do something I've never done. I wanted to push into realms of eclecticism with sound that were fresh to me. That's how 'Spirit Allies' came to be. I featured sounds of my friends playing instruments from around the world - namely Evan Fraser on African bass ngoni and the middle eastern Ney flute (Bangles), Vir McCoy on the Turkish cümbüs (Passiflora), and my own Spanish vocals, which is a language I've spoken and loved since age 13. Adding the mystical vocals of Matia Kalli in Passiflora was a deep treat, and getting to re-imagine the sounds of the timeless world beat band Hamsa Lila was an honor (Sudan Remix). I also wanted to create a collaborative feel, so having the remixes from Mushina, Akriza, and MOONTIDE were amazing. I hope you enjoy the eclectic soul of 'Spirit Allies'.

By composing a sensory musical backdrop to three imagined film sets, Jugurtha has crafted an EP that thrives in our imaginations. Odalisque paints the picture of a Peplum film shoot, one that materializes with flying colors across fertile Oriental landscapes. For each scene, a magnetic downtempo song organically strings together traditional and modern instrumentation, sound recordings, artful vocals and poetry excerpts, while remixes from fellow dreamers complement this desert house with darker grooves and/or dance floor drives.

On the set, activity flourishes. A sea of costumed figures roam about in a cacophony of sounds, colors, and smells.

Electronic dance music scene has few cornerstones. And Sincopat is one of those colourful labels who believe in evolution and combine them all. Taking music into emotion, introducing new names and spotlighting the cream of the current crop. This is bright, genial and buoyant.

'With the label now ten releases deep, Reptile Dysfunction label boss Doorly puts his balls on the line with Nismo’s Groove EP a four-track outing that swerves satisfyingly between house, disco and electro. 

Doorly’s list of career highlights is impressive. As of 2018, he can already add two Essential Mixes, multiple Beatport and Traxsource No.1s, acclaimed releases on Cajual, Dirtybird and Hot Creations and studio collaborations with Green Velvet, Switch & Grandmaster Flash to his ever-growing list of achievements. And with forthcoming releases on Get Physical and Crosstown Rebels in the coming months, as well as this new EP for Reptile Dysfuction, he’s arguably in the production form of his life. 

Since launching back in 2016, Reptile Dysfunction has served both as an outlet for some of Doorly’s weirder and more leftfield productions, and to give a platform to the up-and-coming artists in whom he truly believed: Trooko, Tan Dem, Griff and Charlie Rope amongst them. 2018 also saw the launch of Reptile Dysfunction events, with sold-out shows at Miami Music Week and SXSW, and an Ibiza summer residency at Pikes packed to the rafters with happy, musically adventurous rave lizards. 

Despite contributing heavily to the label with remixes, collabs and one-off tracks, a full EP from the label boss has, until this point, been a notable omission from the label’s impressive catalogue. With Nismo’s Groove EP, Doorly rights that unfathomable wrong, with four tracks of playful, house-meets-disco-meets-electro grooves guaranteed to make you hot and sticky. 

“It’s been so much fun being a label boss working on Reptile Dysfunction this year: we’ve released loads of music from lots of previously unheard talent and have gained support right across the board. I feel like the label now has a real identity and I’m so excited for what we have coming this summer. We’re ten releases deep on the label now, so I thought it was about time that I put my own balls on the line with my debut full 4 track EP on Reptile Dysfunction. '

'Hailing from Denmark, DJ S.K.T's label Stashed Music welcome Milo S to the family. Kicking of the two track EP is 'Elele' which oozes summer tech house feelings. Track 2 follows on nicely, 'That Girl' with some cool vocals which you may recognise. Both tracks we certainly keep the dance floors rolling.'

'We have been keeping an eye on the skills of Mattia Pompeo for several years and we can say now that he has changed his status from promising to proven talent. He’s back with three powerful original tracks and a huge AFFKT remix, and altogether create this Arctic Circle EP.

Mattia comes with some fresh air from the North to refresh the heat of this summer ’18. On ‘Circle’ we find a hypnotic leitmotiv along a vibrant bass and some analog percussion. All the story is completed by an amazing guitar with an eighties touch. Sincopat’s captain AFFKT offers a different vision of the track providing a super groovy rhythm plus a second thick synth to the cocktail. With ‘Blanc’ you will get a splendid bubbling bass and just a few elements properly placed to get the best on the dance floor. For ‘Arctic’ Mattia develops a new line of treatment focusing on a new monster bass that will surround everything at the dance floor. An epic flavour is added with some delicate strings and pads.'

'Following their 'Odeon' EP on Joe Goddard’s Greco-Roman imprint, Parisian duo The Svens join Love Story, sharing their stunning 'Strange Affairs' EP ; an orchestral infused electronica extravaganza, bound to tug at the heartstrings.

Eric & Xavier showcase four spellbinding originals, complimented by remixes from Deepchild & up and coming London talent, Kells, who has been gaining solid support of late from the likes of XLR8R & Indie Shuffle for his emotive style of broken-beat house.

Opening with ‘Orsay,’ a beautiful and emotive slice of electronica, fusing beats with more organic sounds, samples & harp glissandos, we are led into the more dreamy and airy 'Maria Michelle.' Outer Heaven is up next, a full 16 minute, three part, magical music excursion, before the deliciously dubby ‘Strange Affairs’ a moody floor to the floor track, slightly more aligned to the dance floor, dousing it with dreamy waves of melancholia.'

Salute To Manu is MOONTIDE’s ode to the inspiring work of African chief Eric Manu. With its deep percussive groove and its intertwined melodies its another acutely constructed story designed for the dance floor.

On Uone’s recent European tour he managed to squeeze in a visit to Schlepp Geist’s studio in Leipzig. Having previously worked together the pair deliver a remix that takes the original into an open air tribal gathering dance floor monster. Concentrating on the organic instruments from the original whilst splashing with carefully edit vocal snippets, dubby bass & hypnotic acid line through the breakdown.

Ode was written as a dedication to the planet we live on and in particular the water that surrounded @moontideaus during his creative process. He recorded the Oceans, Rivers and Waterfalls and weaved their sounds into the track.

➤ About the EP :
"Yohana" is a journey into the shadows of the jungle. The sound of these songs are heavily influenced from my first experience with Abuela Aya, where she came to me, in my mind and body, in the form of a serpent. She spoke to me, showed me her power, her essence, I felt her movement and heard her sound, and I connected deeply with her spirit. I saw the shadow world that exists parallel to our reality everywhere, I learned that the energy of the shadows cannot be defined as good or bad but have their own unique power and influence on us.

➤ About the song :
ntiche and Yamanjo are both dear brothers whom I respect both very much as people and artists. We've played shows together and I find both their music, life, and vibes very inspiring. Moontide is an artist whose music I've been following for years and connected with recently, I invited him to make a remix of Yohana because I felt he would create something very special with his unique approach to music.

"Yohana" is the musical embodiment of that experience, drawing fusing together organic and tribal elements and warping them to create a psychedelic jungle atmosphere. This approach to creating was used in the production of each song in this EP.

About this edit :
A dear friend introduced me to DakhaBrakha around 8 years ago and there music instantly had a profound effect on me . To me there music is a beautiful blend of all the elements i love in music: Emotion, Groove and Psychedelia. I originally remixed “A Doshchyk Nakrapaie” for my live set a couple of years ago and since then it has lived in many different forms. It's nice to finally share a version of it with everyone.
