Currently residing in Essen, Glenn Astro has spent a bit more than half his life DJing and producing, first in the realm of hip-hop and more recently with an ear toward dance music. After his first releases in this style in 2011 and 2012, Glenn really went for it in 2013 with a trio of EPs that showed hip-hop's soul and house music's drive are in no way mutually exclusive. This 26-year-old may embrace the latter these days, but when you close your eyes and let his gritty low-end do its dirty work, you'll hear plenty of the former's bump still kicking around in there.

His first EP of 2014 is a case in point: Tartelet hits catalog number 27 with gritty soul music for 120-BPM dance floors. "Love Jones" starts things off by taking its time, letting the beat ease in at the halfway mark while Glenn's sumptuous chords simmer in stereo. CTEPEO '57, whose The Missouri Breaks EP closed out Tartelet's 2013, doesn't so much remix "Love Jones" as pick up where the original left off, its banged-out piano chords and tropical shuffle coming out of nowhere in the best possible way. On the flip, "Acid Tears" throws a bit of Chicago into rattling drums, cosmic saxophones and some wonderfully warped spoken word. On its counterpart "Dub Tears," plaintive strings and searing cymbals fly high over wide, low, rumbling terrain. Glenn Astro's given us a whole lot of groove here—we invite you to have at it, and whet your appetite for his debut full-length due this summer on The Gym Rec.

After years of focusing on Breakestra Tackett has finally taken some time to reflect, write new songs and return to his first love, the electric guitar. With an array of influences that draw from vintage soul, rhythm and blues, psychedelia, and blues/jazz influenced folk and rock, The Fool Who Wonders’ new vintage sounds bring Tackett's varied musical travels back to where it all began.

Plastikman, aka @RichieHawtin, recorded EX at the Guggenheim, New York’s iconic art museum. This very special performance was at the invitation of influential Belgium fashion designer and artistic director at Dior, Raf Simons, for the Guggenheim’s annual fundraiser, performed around a specially constructed LED obelisk.

Richie Hawtin explains, “I knew that Raf was a long time Plastikman fan so by accepting his offer to perform at the Dior event at the Guggenheim I knew I’d set myself up to a huge challenge. Although Raf was happy to have the already complete Plastikman Live 1.5 show, I locked myself away in a series of intense studio sessions and quickly recorded enough new material for the performance and realized I might also have enough for a complete new album. The music came out of me effortlessly as I was very inspired by the opportunity to play in this beautiful architectural space renowned more for art than music. The location also allowed me to step far away from the dancefloor, giving me a huge amount of freedom to EXplore any sonic ideas that I had. Art, music, architecture, painting, sculpture – these mediums are supposed to live together.”

Recorded at John’s last night at The Vagabond Nightclub in Downtown Miami during this year’s Miami Music Week, ‘LIVE IN MIAMI’ features 37 tracks and nearly 4 hours of the very best underground electronic music, spanning across more than two decades.  

Showcasing a wide selection of new and classic records ranging from as far back as 1992 (Secret Knowledge – Sugar Daddy) and 1993 (Nicole – A Small Entrance To A Large Spectrum and Laurent Garnier – Acid Eiffel) Digweed’s latest opus effortlessly takes us through a vast array of sounds, eras and genres from what was an incredibly special night back in March of this year.

 From some major reminiscent acid moments of the early 90s right through the years to the upfront house and techno soundscapes of present day, John Digweed blends tracks from some of the most notable producers into one seamless mix that truly captures the spontaneity and vibe of the crowd in one of the world’s coolest, most intimate and unorthodox clubbing destinations.

In only a short period of time, Ultramajic has proved itself to be a reliable source of modern house and techno with a unique overarching aesthetic that makes it stand out like a neon beacon in the endless sea of dance labels operating today.

This release - the label's ninth - marks an important step in its history: the premiere of a totally new, formerly unknown artist who goes by the name of Chambray. It only takes a few seconds of listening to any of the four tracks presented here to see why he's been initiated into the Ultramajic stable - he turns out some uproarious, vintage-touched house with considerable bass heft that would do Chicago-style veterans like Steve Poindexter proud while showing off more modern house styles that have become touchstones of Ultramajic-affiliated DJs and producers like Aden and Jimmy Edgar himself. The 12 inch also features the nine minute Oh The Hilt Mix of 'Underpass' by John Doran and John Tatlock.
