The 37th release on microCastle finds the label revisiting King Unique's Beatport #1 release 'Some Break The Shell'. The four track EP released in April of 2014 found the storied UK producer showcasing some of the most diverse and poignant work of this career. Now to kick off 2015 we see four brand new interpretations courtesy of Dubspeeka, Jamie Stevens, Pedram and Petrels.

Press text: The lone interpretation of 'Some Break' is provided by microCastle label artist Jamie Stevens. The Aussie producer is now making his fourth appearance on the label and first of 2015. Jamie has achieved an amazing level of critical and commercial success over the course of his career. As one of Australia's most talented and sought after music producers he has proven his skill in professional sound design, music scores for film and contemporary dance music. As the founding member of Infusion, the much-loved Australian electronic live act, he's left his mark around the globe, headlining some of the biggest and most respected clubs including; Fabric- London, Pacha - Buenos Aires, Womb- Tokyo and festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Roskilde and Creamfields in Moscow, Brazil, UK and Argentina. In his home country, Infusion has received 2 prestigious ARIA awards for their work.  More recently Jamie's discography has been highlighted by a contribution (Prism) to John Digweed and Nick Muir's 'Versus’ album along with 'The Wonder of You', released in 2013 on microCastle, which turned out to be one of his career best pieces of work.  It earned a #1 chart placing in both Tech House and Electronica on Beatport and was widely regarded as one of the year's best releases.  Always a magical remixer Jamie has reinvented the sparkling, melodic 'Some Break' into a stomping techno beast of a record. Already played by Jeremy Olander & Guy J at the VH1 Supersonic festival it looks to be one of Jamie's biggest techno productions of the year.

Wie und wann seid ihr zur Elektronischen Musik gekommen?

Innellea gibt es nun seit 2,5 Jahren. Wir sind beide davor schon im Ohne-Worte-Kollektiv gewesen, mit dem wir seit einigen Jahren Parties machen und da war es nur eine Frage der Zeit bis wir beide selbst in die Hand genommen haben Musik zu machen. 

Welche Musikalischen Momente sind euch besonders in Erinnerung geblieben?

Da gibt es einige... Besonders in Erinnerung ist uns auf jeden Fall das Plötzlich am Meer letzten Jahres. Erst überraschte uns die Nachricht auf der „Forkel-Gork-Stage“ spielen zu dürfen und dann war es vor Ort einfach überwältigend auf so einer Bühne vor so vielen Menschen zu stehen. 

Wo konnte man euch bisher antreffen?

In Deutschland haben wir bisher hier und dort gespielt, in Berlin es ins Kater und Sisyphos geschafft, aber auch auf unsere außereuropäischen Gigs in Georgien und Indien schauen wir stolz zurück.  

Gibt es Zukunftspläne?

Unser Releaseplan ist voll: ein Remix für Bebetta auf Monaberry, eine EP auf URSL, ein Track auf der Upon.You-Compilation im Herbst und einige Tage im Studio warten.

In a much anticipated return, one of the scene’s most esteemed producers Davide Squillace is back with a ten track album. To be released on Crosstown Rebels this March, Once Upon A Time In Napoli provides an eclectic range of both hard-hitting and introspective productions. This release paves the way for an exciting year ahead with several more releases in the pipeline. 

Prepare to be immediately drawn into the album with effervescent opening track, The Boogie Man. Exploring a range of wooden percussion, Squillace layers up with distant chord synthesis, statement vocal and a sturdy kick. In The Mood For Love follows with an array of drum pad beats developing gradually into an anticipated second drop littered with claps and sitar-esque melodies. Distorted vocals and incredible percussion, provided by Italian drum guru Paki Palmieri , form the basis of Dada Is Back. Fourth track on the album, Napoli Texas, opens with a delicate symbol and floundering bassline. An excellent example of the renowned producer’s dancefloor filling production. Chock-full of wildlife samples, Noah is a thirteen minute cosmos of indigenous experimentation. 

“”Once upon a Time in Napoli” is the story of my twenty years in dance music. The album covers the many textures of this journey, with influences of the early days in Naples to my Circoloco residency in Ibiza. Ranging from the warmth of classic analogue synths to the crisp precision of digital beats” Davide Squillace.

The second half of the album starts off with a solid kick, How We Communicate has an otherworldly feel with gnarled vocals and energetic snares. Carrying on the lively vibe, Vostok isn’t for the fainthearted. Squillace incorporates filthy bass, mad klaxons, cowbells and a whole heap of variety into this exorbitant tune. Onto a slightly more minimal approach, Iron Odyseey is an exploration of sounds from dainty triangles to supernatural sounding samples. The gradual nature of Holy Motors leaves the listener hankering for more. Closing on a high, the final song of the album, The Sin Introducing Telemaco, is a majestic chill out track laced with a subtle melancholy.

Originally from Naples, Davide Squillace has cemented his position as a renowned DJ/Producer since first appearing on the scene back in 2004. A resident of iconic Ibiza institution Circoloco for over ten years, more recently Squillace can be found touring with Matthias Tanzmann and Martin Buttrich as one third of Better Lost Than Stupid. Well-known for his exceptional ability to pair music with visual arts, his “artistic think tank” and record label This And That Lab has provided a number of creatives with a much-needed production outlet, often calling on them for the likes of cover art. The album launches a massive year for Squillace and will be released on DLP and digital download.

The Berlin-based duo Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, aka Booka Shade, return to Bedrock to unveil their second EP for John Digweed’s imprint. Coming from one of the finest pioneering electronic music acts of the past two decades, their excitedly awaited ‘Understanding EP’ does not disappoint.

Opening with the dark, enticing percussive pulse of ‘Understanding’, the masterful duo lay down a work of art that invokes the spirit of classic house music with its distinctive vocal samples, bedded perfectly on an exceptional spine-tingling Techno groove. Genre blurring electronic music at its finest. When Christopher Mohn and Reagan Denius revolutionized themselves into Dance Spirit, they were guided by a philosophy based on attaining subconscious harmony through rhythm, timbre, melody, and movement. Last Night On Earth welcome the prolific Deadbeat with a special vinyl ‘LNOE in Dub’ compilation, featuring a new Sasha exclusive. The DJ/producer, sound artist and music tech educator already has an extensive resume of labels and collaborators including Echocord, Mutek, Sonar, RBMA, and Monolake. Deadbeat aka Scott Monteith has reworked his eight favourite cuts from the LNOE back
catalogue, creating dub interpretations of tracks from Sasha, Hunter/Game, Ejeca, Jody Barr, VONDA7, Alex Niggemann, Jon Gurd and Dubspeeka. The Canadian-born, Berlin-based producer has delivered the dream – reworks which could stand up as single tracks in their own right, while preserving the gravitas of the original cuts. Furthermore, Sasha’s ‘Float Collapse’ is an exclusive track from the label head, never before released.

Along with eleven albums, 20+ singles, countless remixes and collabs, Deadbeat also has a peerless dub archive spanning early Jamaican roots, through the 80s/90s to today’s evolving global scene. His DJ mix ‘Radio Rothko’ in 2010 is rated by various publications as one of the most genre defining mix CDs of all time. 

For Deadbeat, his debut for Sasha’s imprint is especially meaningful. ‘I saw Sasha play for the first time in Toronto around 1996, and while we have travelled in quite different musical circles since then, it was a real honour to put this project together. The LNOE catalogue has so many melodically rich dance floor killers, it was a real pleasure to rework them into a more meditative, cerebral mode. Ejeca - Octiv Dub

Next up on the Alola classic series, 16B’s ‘Escape (Driving To Heaven) is re-invigorated with 3 remasters for inclusion in the recently launched Alola Classic series. Originally released in 2001 on Hooj Tunes, Escape garnered support from the electronic music elite and featured as the opening track on Deep Dish’s chart topping ‘Global Underground 021: Moscow’ compilation, whilst also being included on Hernan Cattaneo’s seminal Renaissance mix. As the name title suggest, ‘Escape’ captures an uplifting spirit that climbs and climbs, the perfect embodiment of early naughties progressive house. On vocals, Richard Morel narrates the journey and further adds to the uplifiting aesthetic. On remix duties Omid and Francisco Savier provide deep, dark tribal takes on the original whilst Ignas retains more of the original’s euphoric nature. Rounding off the package Maher Daniel’s previously unreleased mix captures a dreamy, chill-out vibe in blissful fashion.
