This one also went through a lot of different versions, which I eventually discarded because they either sounded too much like Hopes and Dreams or whatever reference I used was too obvious. With a legendary track such as Hopes and Dreams, it's hard to feel like whatever you're doing makes justice to it, but just the same as with Undertale (the song), I came to accept that this version probably won't be as good as the original, but it doesn't have to be. None of the Alternate tracks need to be. As Dr Dre said: "I'm never gonna be able to do it any better than what they did, this is just my version (right before cooking a trash beat)"

Now onto my inspiration for this, I took a lot of different things. 'Raw Unfiltered Calamity' by DM Dokuro, 'Solaris Phase 2' from Sonic 06, many chiptune and tracker songs, etc. I wanted this to have a feeling of finality, of the realization that this is truly the end of your journey. Just as I do, I hope you enjoy this.

ross' boss battle uses the purple soul, and he still uses a shovel as a "weapon" sort of meant to emulate earth-based magic
despite his front he puts up about being a protective vigilante, the real reason he wants to stop you from getting to whitepine mansion itself is to, in his words, prevent you from 'reliving the same experiences he went through'
...mostly involving the deaths of two people in and near the mansion

the boss fight is ross vs. serapter and ivory, ross does quite a lot of damage (but very little actual, physical harm) since ivory's 'health' is more so 'willingness to fight' than actual physical HP with the exception of a few fights

the detective is flowey. although you meet him first out of the 'major characters' there's still a bit of downtime prior before you encounter him.

this theme is pretty deliberately meant to be uncomfortable (although i'm not sure i'd call myself proud of it) considering that the detective is also the main antagonist of Achroma alongside the "Head" (in the neutral route, atleast).

the hemlocke mansion (also known as whitepine) takes the role of waterfall. only a few people have actual clearance to enter the mansion now, and as such it is kind of in decay; some of the more terrifying secrets of the mansion have also revealed themselves in their wake, and you can even take a few secret passageway "shortcuts". pretty terrifying, but also pretty neat.

otherwise, it's kind of a breather from the upbeat usherwood arc (even if it's far darker tonally)
