   This is No.1 from the suite of pieces for piano entitled 'Children's  Corner' by Claude Debussy. Debussy wrote them for his little daughter, nicknamed 'Chouchou' (little pet in French.)According to Debussy's friend and biographer, E. Robert Schmitz, the pieces are about the joy the the little girl received from the toys her Father bought her. This first piece of the suite, 'Gradus ad Parnassum' is a reference to Debussy's own childhood. It is a parody of an execise from the famous and monumental piano exercise method book by Clementi, 'Gradus ad Parnassum"(translation: 'steps to Parnassus') which Debussy was no doubt forced to practice as a child!

Best known for M.K.Ogiński polonaise "Pożegnanie Ojczyzny" (Farewell to the Homeland) written in 1794 on the occasion of his emigration to western Europe after the failure of the Kościuszko Uprising.
Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis  - Polonezas "Atsisveikinimas su Tėvyne" ar. Kazys Daugėla, atlieka Vokietijos Nacionalinis kariuomenės orkestras (Bundeswehr)diriguojamas Walter Ratzek, 2002 m. Kūrinio partitūrą koncertiniam pučiamųjų orkestrui išleido leidykla Rundel GmbH, Vokietija.

Ich drehe mich. Überall: Wald. Durch die bewegten Baumwipfel fällt hell das Sonnenlicht. Die Schatten auf dem Boden tanzen. Die Schatten sind unterschiedlich stark, unendliche Nuancen von Hell und Dunkel. Sie überschneiden sich und verändern ihre Form. Sie formen das Licht. Sie sind nicht schwarz sondern bunt wie der Waldboden.
Die Wurzeln der Bäume ragen tief in die Erde. Fest in ihr verankert, wanken die Bäume langsam im Wind. Majestätisch erheben sie sich über mich. Jeder Stamm hat seine eigene Beschaffenheit. Jeder Stamm ist unterschiedlich dick, jeder Stamm ist unterschiedlich hoch. Manche sind ganz nahe, sie verdecken fast mein Sichtfeld. Andere wirken ganz klein, in der Ferne. Zusammen ergeben sie eine dichte Struktur. wenn ich mich bewege, verändert sie sich, obwohl sich nichts verändert.
Ein weicher Wind weht mir ins Gesicht. Die Luft ist erfüllt von torfigen und moosigen Gerüchen. Die Luft ist frisch, aber kühl. Sie belebt meinen Verstand. Ich laufe auf einem verwachsenen Pfad durch den Wald. Meine Sinne sind geschärft, ich bin konzentriert, ohne mich auf etwas zu konzentrieren. meine Schritte sind langsam, aber gleichmäßig.
