When Rage Takes Over

The Weasel Lord's victory weighed heavily on SQWURL as he limped back to the Big Tree, his once-bright eyes clouded with doubt. The echoes of his defeat haunted him, but deep within, a small ember of determination refused to be extinguished. SQWURL sat beneath the sprawling branches of the ancient tree, its golden leaves shimmering in the soft light, and vowed to never taste such failure again.

"This is only the beginning," he whispered, clenching his fists.

From that day forward, SQWURL dedicated himself to relentless training. Each dawn found him scaling the Big Tree’s towering branches, pushing his body to the limit as he leapt between precarious limbs to enhance his agility and balance. At twilight, he would spar with the druid Oakenthorn, learning the rhythm of combat and honing his strength. Evenings were devoted to perfecting his bardic craft—his melodies grew sharper, his voice richer, his magic more potent.

The forest bore witness to his transformation. Birds paused to listen to his songs, their melodies resonating with renewed vigor. Squirrels and foxes would watch him in awe as he sparred against phantom enemies, each strike and parry infused with newfound precision. Even the Big Tree seemed to sense his growing power, its roots pulsing faintly with approval as SQWURL practiced in its shadow.

Months passed like pages turning in a book, and one day, SQWURL stood beneath the Big Tree as a new squirrel-dwarf. The magic within him had deepened, the weight of his lute felt different in his hands, and when he strummed it, the air itself seemed to hum in recognition. He had done it—he had reached Level 2 Bard.

Overcome with pride, SQWURL let out a triumphant laugh that echoed through the forest. The animals gathered, their eyes alight with admiration as they witnessed his evolution.

Surveying the points he’d earned, SQWURL made his choice with care. Charisma—his voice must inspire even the faintest of hearts. Strength—to wield his lute not only as an instrument but a weapon. Dexterity—to outmaneuver even the craftiest foes. Each decision felt right, the pieces of his newfound power clicking into place like the perfect chord.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the forest in a warm amber glow, SQWURL stood tall, his determination renewed. The Weasel Lord may have defeated him once, but this was only the beginning of his story. Next time, SQWURL would return stronger, sharper, and ready to reclaim victory—not just for himself, but for the Big Tree and the entire forest.

The quest for redemption had truly begun..

HOWDY! Name's Benton. But for as long as I can remember, folks have called me Bentone. I've been writing bass music for over 20 years! I consider myself to have been an early adopter of the dubstep and american bass music sounds, having been a proponent of both since the early 2000's. I was very fortunate to spend a good portion of the '10s escapading across the country with my good friend DJ blac as 1/2 of our bass monster party rocker duo BASSthoven, carrying the good word of bass music into new ears and exposing many young wooks to the (then new) sound of dubstep, all while meeting many friends along the way! That's a lot of bass!

Bentone, as a project, is my means to communicate my understanding and vision of modern bass music. An open minded and abstract approach that is amorphous in form, without boundary, maintaining roots in classical and modern theory, while also paying homage to old school electronic music, and moving forward in contemporary technique. There is great beauty in the world, as well as great sadness, grit, and challenge. The music is an attempt to express both ends of the spectrum, but also act as a representation of the existential conversation between the two, as well as create an atmosphere of great feeling, thought, and action. Hi Ho!
