Video nasty is a colloquial term that refers to a list of films (mostly low-budget horror and exploitation films, but also several major studio productions) distributed on video cassette that were criticised for their obscene content by British establishment commentators in the early 1980s. A loophole in film classification laws allowed these videos to bypass the review process, resulting in an unregulated market of uncensored videos and vigorous public debate concerning their availability to susceptible individuals.

Aura is a music collective based in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. Though striving to facilitate in developing Melbourne’s burgeoning creative scene by providing a public platform through which local and international artists can showcase their talent. Aura sound stems from the deeper parts of techno focused primarily around hypnotic textures. With a new label launching this year, Aura wishes to broaden this sound and shape it into its own through deep melodic/hypnotic and natural textures with progressive rhythms.

Aura team has been a commitment to supporting our community through philanthropic initiatives. One such initiative has been our weekly podcast series commencing early last year, which is oriented towards aiding disadvantaged groups that have been adversely effected by the unique exigencies associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The series has currently raised over $3,000 for a variety of charities chosen by members of the Aura team, ranging from the Starlight Foundation, the Melbourne City Mission, and Beyond Blue. The Aura team will ensure that all proceeds derived from forthcoming podcasts, events, and records will continue to be used in a manner that gives back to the community in which we love, promoting both the Melbourne art industry and salient social causes we care deeply about.
