Hailing from Bern, Ele is a staple amongst the younger generation of Swiss talents. Being a DJ since 2014 and a promoter since 2017, he is steadily making his way through the local scene. Widely known and praised for his versatile, fast-paced yet fluid mixing style, combined with his profound interest in DJ culture and overall sheer perseverance, he already made international appearances such as performing at Liquicity Festival 2019. With his event label Sturzflug Audio, he shares a platform for and with upcoming Bernese artists, as well as manifesting a place for the more deep-orientated minds around the capital. Bern Bass Podcast 78 - SVB & Scepticz (September 2021)

Ryck from Berne is one of the core-founders of the Bern Bass Podcast and started DJing in 1997 after being bitten by the Drum&Bass bug at the local United Tribes Raves. He was struck by the sounds and energy of Goldie’s „Timeless“, the relentless bassline rollers of the ever-prolific Full Cycle crew and DJs like Randall, Micky Finn and LTJ Bukem. An avid Junglist and nerdy record collector until this day, he got his first gig at the Lighters-series in 2002 after years of sweating blood & tears practising on the Technics 1210s. Known today for his varied, unpredictable selection with a heavy nod to the oldschool, over the years he played at most major Swiss D&B events such as Bierhübeli and Darkside at Dachstock in Berne or Bassride at Rohstofflager and Mute in Zürich. As a producer, he released collaborative tracks on Soul Deep, Inform and Sun and Bass Recordings. After being in involved in RaBass 95.6, a monthly Drum&Bass show on Berne alternative radio RaBe for over ten years, he was asked to co-promote and continue the Liquid Session series at Dachstock in Berne in 2015, hosting a broad variety of international acts in the deeper realm of D&B as well as showcasing young and older local talent. As a continuation of the idea of our podcast, Ryck launched the Bandcamp-only Bern Bass Records label to feature Swiss producers exclusively in 2020 with the first releases by Simstah, OctaState and Dayni - more to come soon, stay tuned and check out the Bandcamp page: bernbassrecords.bandcamp.com

We are happy to welcome back our brother Silvahfonk from Delft for his second exclusive Bern Bass Podcast! Before becoming Silvahfonk, the young Dutchman's alias was Energy. If you don’t understand why, you’ve obviously never seen him drop tunes. His fast mixing, original selection, the way he involves the crowd with his infectious style and his never ending energy have been trademarks since day one. In 2005, he won two Dutch drum & bass awards as ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ and ‘Best DJ’ and since 2007 he has been co-producing deep, musical and rolling drum & bass together with the respected producer and DJ Mindmapper. With releases on Demand Records and more recently on Blendits, Citrus Recordings, Fokuz Recordings, Dispatch Ltd and Critical Music (a co- production with Fre4knc), Silvahfonk relentlessly pushes his sound and a career with more than twenty years of experience. This also resulted in his first gig at the mighty Sun and Bass festival in 2015. This Junglist soldier never fails to impress, always brings it with musical edge and an endless love for the music.

Eulachbass is an independent collective and event label based in Winterthur, Switzerland. It was founded in 2018 by a group of friends sharing a mutual love for all aspects of bass music. Molekül, Fayyaz, Leinholz, Cafebabe, Derk and their latest member Yooroo make up the highly active and passionate team of young promoters and DJs. Their musical focus is on the full spectrum of Drum & Bass and Dubstep, the two styles they feel need to be pushed much more with local events. Simstah from Bern Switzerland is one half of Drum&Bass production outfit Konfront.Audio which is featured on a number of international labels such as Flexout, Demand, Fokuz, Syndrome, Soul Deep and Citrus to name a few. Simstah started out Djing at the very early age of ten. After being hooked on Drum&Bass in 1996 he branched out into production in 2008 and is currently working on several different studio projects. Simstahs musical taste encompasses the broad spectrum of Drum&Bass, but he likes to work on the more down-tempo side of things as well. He landed his first solo-release on Structured music in 2015 and has releases on Blendits Audio, Jazzsticks, Flight Pattern, Dutty Audio, Syndrome Audio and Re:st . Apart from production Simstah is regularly playing at major Swiss Events such as Darkside at Dachstock Berne or Mute at Hive Zürich.

Bern Bass Podcast 85 - Simstah ("The Downbeat Files" EASTER SPECIAL 2022)

Hailing from southern Germany and now residing in Basel, Jungle Josy was hooked on Drum&Bass instantly after hearing it for the first time….The deep love for wobbly basslines and rattling Snaredrums has been a major influence for half her life and fuelled her passion in getting active herself as a rave promoter and DJ.
In terms of genre, the wobbling bass from jungle classics like "Super Sharp Shooter" has never let her go, but Josy loves also the full spectrum of Drum & Bass, Liquid to Deep onto Neuro, anything that catches her ear with a heavyweight bassline. 

Together with Wooksen, she also hosted the radio show Lower Frequencies at a local German alternative radio station. Live she can mostly be found in Switzerland, although DJing has also taken her as far as Israel.

Jack Stone from Solothurn has been behind the turntables since 1996.  At that time he mainly played hardcore & gabber, in 2000 he fully converted to Drum & bass with his best friend and 5 years later he co-founded the "SubCulture Movement Crew", with which he organized local events  until 2009. Around the same time he was also a resident DJ in the legendary Rohstofflager Club in Zürich. as part of the Bassride collective. Jack Stone has also been passionate about music production and he succesfully released "Amaru" and "R.E.B.O.V.S.K.I." on hard-edge Zurich drum & bass label "Moving2Fast". Konfront.Audio is the DJ & production brothers combo of Twist & Simstah. The brothers started out as DJs in the early 90s with a strong interest in Hip-Hop and Electronic music. As time progressed they established themselves playing at various events in Berne and in all of Switzerland such as Darkside at Dachstock, Mute at Hive or at the Streetparade-Festival name but a few. The brothers also work successfully in the studio and released their music on landmark labels such as Fokuz and Soul Deep.

In 2020 he founded the Bandcamp-only Bern Bass Records label to feature Swiss producers exclusively.

Basel-born MoveMental started out Djing a decade ago when he met his mates from The Razzmatazz crew at work by chance. He got hooked on DJing and the crew soon thereafter setup their own event series „Basstard“ at the Tresor Club. The event and the sets played by the crew impressed fellow veteran local crew called „Phyzicalz” by whom they were invited to their long-running and nationwide renowned show „Density“ on alternative Radio X. After becoming a fix figure on the show further live gigs followed, mostly in his hometown but also at other Swiss events such as Urban Bass, BassInc and the world-famous „Streetparade“ in Zürich in 2016! A year later MoveMental established himself as a programming force on „Density“ in order to provide a nationwide alternative platform for local DJs and newcomers alike. Ryck is a DJ & producer from Berne who started DJing in 1997 after being bitten by the Drum&Bass bug at the United Tribes Raves. Playing bass & guitar in bands beforehand and continuously working in the studio on different projects he wanted to have a go at the music himself, fascinated by the sounds of Goldie and the Moving Shadow label and rave tapes of A.W.O.L., Telepathy and Helter Skelter.
In the last two decades Ryck regularly played at Swiss D&B events such as Darkside at Dachstock in Berne or Mute at Hive in Zürich. After being in involved in RaBass 95.6, a monthly Drum&Bass only show on Berne alternative radio RaBe, hosted by pionnering local DJ Lockee, he established the regular Bern Bass Podcast series in 2014 together with Konfront.Audio, Markee & Lockee and is co-promoting the Liquid Session event series at Dachstock in Berne. In 2020 he founded the Bandcamp-only Bern Bass Records label to feature Swiss producers exclusively.

Konfront.Audio is the DJ & production brothers combo of Twist & Simstah. The brothers started out as DJs in the early 90s with a strong interest in Hip-Hop and Electronic music. As time progressed they established themselves playing at various events in Berne and in all of Switzerland such as Darkside at Dachstock, Mute at Hive or at the Streetparade-Festival name but a few. The brothers also work successfully in the studio and released their music on landmark labels such as Fokuz and Soul Deep.

Lockee is one of the ﬁrst generation of Drum&Bass-DJs in Switzerland and is a resident DJ at Liquid Sessions and Darkside at Dachstock in Berne. Starting out in 1994 as the youngster of the United Tribes agency he soon played at pivotal events all over Switzerland such as the Goliath Rave (Roggwil), Rohstofﬂager (Zürich), Usine (Geneva) and also had a residency at the long-running Bierhübeli events of both United Tribes & Restless promotion companies on from 1997 to 2006. At that time he also helped to establish Drum FM, one of the ﬁrst Swiss Drum&Bass radioshows on alternative Radio Berne. Besides regular gigs all over Switzerland and abroad, hosting own events such as "Les Liquides" at Les Amis in Berne, Lockee also started working on his own music in '99 which led to releases on Mindstorm and Vampire Records. In 2005 he launched "RaBass 95.6 FM" on rabe.ch, one of the major and longest-running Swiss D&B radioshows.

"I made my way through the rave scene...
Growing up in Zürich's countryside, caught between Hip Hop and Techno, doing Graffiti on trains and playing Trance, in the early 90ies.
At 15 I started to DJ in our youth centre on two Technics MKII. I always watched „MTV Saturday Night Dance“, where the likes of SL2, Altern8 and The Prodigy were featured. When I heard DJ Hype doing the closure set at Energy 94 at Hallenstadion it just was the perfect mixture of all my musical tastes, the answer to all questions.
Records were hard to find then, so mainly Happy Breakbeat and Hardcore filled the box. As an up & coming DJ of the second rave generation I got to be a resident at the White Wolf Raves from 96 to 98 and lots of other events.
Around 98 I met Led Tampi, one of the titans of Switzerland's Jungle DJs and then became a part of Zürich’s legendary „Metropolitan Bass Scientists“ alongside Mad B, Crazee Bo, Max S, Led Tampi and MC Riddimflrt.
MBS were the counterpart to Switzerland’s biggest and most influential crew, United Tribes from Berne.  Sadly, both crews dissolved around the millennium but a new collective came out of it, The Engine with Lockee, Fine Style, Led Tampi, and MC Fight. Their events at Bierhübeli in Berne in the early 2000s are legendary. Drum & Bass really had its prime back then. There were many other crews like Score Inc, Blackout & RG Promotions, Mute, Tension State, FMI, JUR… and so many others!
After playing at basically all Swiss venues and raves of the era and in Czech Republic regularly, even at „Let it Roll 10“ I stepped back to focus on my job career.  At this time technology for DJs changed from analog to digital, but I decided not to go on with CDJ’s and refused to make this step. I've never stopped listening to D&B, once it’s in your DNA, you can’t stop listening to it, as you probably know.... I am super happy and honored to do this mix for Berne Bass Podcast so that I can share favorites of my vinyl collection and have a few words.
Drum & Bass definitely has stood the test of time, although not a lot of people believed in its future back in the days... So BIG UP all of the massive and youth, new breed and crews that runs our beautiful culture today. Let D&B thrive on forever!"

Bern Bass Podcast 101 - DJ Impact (Swiss National Day Special 2023)

Juan aka Juandroid, resident DJ and member of Zürich’s Divercity crew got hooked on Drum&Bass in 2006 when he heard “The Trip” by Logistics on Hospital Records, the first track to introduce him to the genre.
He has been DJing steadily for twelve years, showcasing his broad taste of different styles and musical genres in his varied sets that range from Rollers to the more mellow styles and the sparse oldschool classic. 
Juandroid regards his residency at the Swiss Hospitality-series as his personal career highlight, since it’s always taking him back to those early days of falling in love with the music. 
We are happy to feature Juandroid’s first podcast in our series and look forward to hear him play out much more in the future.

Delilah, a tiny person with a big heart and a lot of energy. As a member of Divercity Crew from Zürich she's playing regularly at their events and if not she’s making videos of everyone.
She used to be a dancer on many stages and discovered DJing a few years ago. In a short time, she was supporting act for artists like Culture Shock, Subfocus, Benny Page, TC, Vibe Chemistry and Ed:It to name but a few. Delilah’s sets are versatile and full of surprises because she likes to experiment with differents styles and genres. Laughing, sweating and dancing is what you can expect when Delilah is behind the decks, you’ll know why she got the nickname „Bouncing Ball“. She likes to select tracks to take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Close your eyes, let go end enjoy the ride. Whether melodic, raucous or simply gripping, her aim is to leave you with a memory. Bern Bass Podcast 103 - Delilah (October 2023)

Zürich-born-and-bred family man DJ SQUASH first got in touch with UK Breakbeat, Jungle and House through regular listening to pivotal Swiss radiostation Couleur3 at the tender age of 14 in the very early 90s. 
This led to regular vinyl shopping at the infamous local Mono Records store, and he didn’t get rid off the addiction to this very day!
After practising intensely for several years, SQUASH started to run his own outdoor parties and was a regular face at Bogen13 (for those that remember!) playing everything from Downbeat to Liquid, or Intelligent D&B as it was called in those days…
Around the millennium he joined the legendary MUTE crew, one of the most important and active crews of the exploding Swiss D&B scene of the time. As a resident he played at the most important clubs such as Hive, Moods and Dachkantine and at radiostations and raves all over Switzerland. He was a support act for countless international guests such as Marcus Intalex RIP, Calibre, Alix Perez and LTJ Bukem to name but a few. SQUASH also had a brief romance with Deep / Tech House as SILEX and CHRIS MONO. 
To this day, he is an avid D&B lover as it’s the only genre that encompasses everything, from hard, techy stuff to super deep to jazzy, funky styles to straight up, playful Jungle. To SQUASH, it is much more a feeling and lifestyle, involving, diverse and ever innovative. His preference is the liquidy side of things and he likes to play elaborate sets that take you on that journey - and he does exactly that with his exclusive mix for Bern Bass Podcast, and we are very excited to be part of that journey, enjoy!

Mista Sanchez is a Berne City based DJ, vinyl collector, record dealer and radio host of 2 shows on local Radio RaBe rabe.ch. His DJ history began in the mid 90ies with his first pair of turntables and a bunch of Punkrock LP’s. Soon he turned out to be a total nerd, fully focused on any style or kind of music. From Punkrock to Ska, to Reggae, Dancehall, Rocksteady, Dub, Jungle, Drum’n’Bass, Dub, Soul, Funk, Baile, Afrobeats, Rap, Trap... There were no genre borders anymore, unlimited options to work with. This passion and dedication to music paved the way to his work in a local recordstore, to countless gigs, and two weekly, regular radio shows.

First one of the new year, we hope you are well, happy New Year to all of you and THANKS FOR LISTENING! First one up in 2024 is our Ryck with a fresh selection of upfront Rollers and the odd classic, watch out!

Ryck is one of the founders of Bern Bass Podcast and started DJing in 1997 after being bitten by the Drum&Bass bug at the local United Tribes Raves. He was struck by the sounds and energy of Goldie’s „Timeless“, the futuristic production and athmospheric styles of the Moving Shadow and Reinforced labels as well as the funky bassline rollers of the ever-prolific Full Cycle crew and DJs like Randall, Micky Finn and LTJ Bukem. An avid Junglist and record collector until this day, he got his first gig at the Lighters-series in 2002 after years of sweating blood & tears practising on the Technics 1210s. Known today for his varied selection with a heavy nod to the oldschool, over the years he played at major Swiss D&B events such as Restless at Bierhübeli and Darkside at Dachstock in Berne or Bassride at Rohstofflager and Mute at Hive in Zürich. As a producer, he released collaborative tracks with Konfront.Audio on Soul Deep, Inform and "Second Villain" with FD on Sun and Bass Recordings. After being in involved in RaBass 95.6, a monthly Drum&Bass show by DJ Lockee on Berne alternative radio RaBe for over ten years, he was asked to co-promote and continue the Liquid Session series at Dachstock in Berne in 2015, hosting a broad variety of international acts in the deeper realm of D&B as well as showcasing young and older local talent up until the series very recent demise. As a continuation of the idea of the Bern Bass Podcast, Ryck launched the Bandcamp-only Bern Bass Records label in 2020 to feature Swiss producers exclusively with the first releases by Simstah, OctaState and Dayni - We hope there is more to come soon, stay tuned and check out the Bandcamp page:

OctaState & nice nine are drum’n’bass producers and DJs based in St.Gallen. Coming from a live background, they started off in the scene as bassda, a drum’n’bass band recreating those fast beats and basses live on stage. The band is no more, but in 2015 they founded the Local Bass Movement alongside DJ SNES. Since then, the LBM crew has grown organically, now featuring additional members like Rumble, Leaneye and anotha90skid keeping the vibe alive in St.Gallen.
This mix for Bern Bass features a lot of dubs, collabs and exclusive remixes. A few of them showcase the connections OctaState & nice nine have established with other independent and underground artists. Growing up with electronic music, 'nade was already listening to trance, happy hardcore, and techno in her early childhood. Since 2016 she has been on the turntables, making her mark in the Swiss scene with her Upfront/High Energy Basslovers style. As a member of JUR Records crew from Aarau, she regularly plays gigs and enjoys exchanging with national and international DJs. Her sets take the audience on an energizing journey, with power and melodically rolling, resonating basslines. Particularly memorable were her sets on the JUR Lovemobile at Zürich's legendary Streetparade 2017 and 201 , as well as performances in Brisbane and Bangkok.
She has performed alongside and with international heavyweights such as Calyx & TeeBee, Friction, Goldie, BeeCee, Ed Rush, DJ Storm, Camo & Krooked, LTJ Bukem, Anile, MC Fava, Logistics and DJ Hype among others.

2011: The Kuppel location in Basel Switzerland. Likeminded people meet up for their first event. Expanding their individual outputs to an evergrowing collaborative project, they are set to take the Swiss D&B scene by storm. 
Four years on they`ve had numerous releases on world-renowned labels and played all over Europe. The animated videoclip of their track "Echoes", released on Liquicity Records had over 80k views and firmly established QBig & Zenith B as leading figures of the Basel D&B scene.

Bern Bass Podcast 09 - QZB (September 2015)

Lockee is one of the ﬁrst generation of Drum&Bass-DJs in Switzerland and is a resident DJ at Liquid Sessions and Darkside at Dachstock in Berne. 
Starting out in 1994 as the youngster of the United Tribes agency he soon played at pivotal events all over Switzerland such as the Goliath Rave (Roggwil), Rohstofﬂager (Zürich), Usine (Geneva) and also had a residency at the long-running Bierhübeli events of both United Tribes & Restless promotion companies on from 1997 to 2006. At that time he also helped to establish Drum FM, one of the ﬁrst Swiss Drum&Bass radioshows on alternative Radio Berne. Besides regular gigs all over Switzerland and abroad, hosting own events such as "Les Liquides" at Les Amis in Berne, Lockee also started working on his own music in '99 which led to releases on Mindstorm and Vampire Records. In 2005 he launched "RaBass 95.6 FM" on rabe.ch, one of the major Swiss D&B radioshows together with Ryck.

Ryck is another DJ & producer from Berne who started DJing in 1997 after being bitten by the Drum&Bass bug at the United Tribes Raves. Playing in bands beforehand and continuously working in the studio on different projects he wanted to have a go at the music himself, fascinated by the sounds of Goldie and the Moving Shadow label and rave tapes of A.W.O.L., Telepathy and Helter Skelter.
He met Lockee through mutual friends and the two soon began to exchange ideas in production and DJing. Ryck plays regularly at Swiss D&B events such as Darkside at Dachstock or Mute at Hive in Zürich and is working on new tracks in the studio.

Let Karol introduce himself:

Le Chat-Man is a conceptual project in music and beyond, intended to connect people. After many years of dj'ing as Blind Prophets of Berne-based USP Crew as well as producing my own loops, the Shaman concept came to life. From the days of showcasing raw Proto-Neurofunk-Drum&Bass to Jeff Mills' uncompromising techno soundscapes of today, I always felt an urge to put more emphasis on the musical exchange between myself and those who want listen to what I do. What I am experimenting with nowadays, as with this DJ Mix, is the use of musical styles that I don’t normally use and play…. Just listen and FEEL!

Bern Bass Podcast 22 - Le Chat-Man (November 2016)

DJ Submerge, originating from the Fondue-renowned city of Fribourg and now residing in Berne with his family has been DJing since the early 90s. Inspired by the legendary „Max Mix“-tape-series, he started out with 4/4 techno but switched to all things UK Hardcore & Breakbeat after being mindblown by DJ Hype’s Mixtape Nr. 1 which he bought at a show by The Prodigy in Bulle. Struck by his newly-found passion he delved more and more into the latest vinyl releases coming from the UK. After several years of practising at home he had his first gigs in and around his hometown when setting up his own events with friends, but also at Bad Bonn Düdingen and the legendary Fri-Son which hosted some of the very first Swiss Jungle raves such as with Trace and Ryme Tyme in 1994. He then moved to Berne for studying and connected to the tightly-knit D&B scene centered around Dachstock and Deejay MF’s long-running Darkside-series after being part of the Lucerne-based Jungle Raiderz Crew. He took over the side-event-series Liquid Sessions from the original promoter Roland aka DJ SIP after being a regular figure at both events for years. He has been co-promoting the series together with fellow local DJs Lockee and Ryck since 2015. DJ Submerge’s many years of high activity are a testament to his great love for all things Drum&Bass, ranging from dark rollers to bright sunny liquid flavours. Besides promoting he is also working on his own music in his newly re-constructed homestudio.

Bern Bass Podcast 45 - Submerge (November 2018)

After participating in „Musical Education for Kids“ at the very young age of five years, his insistent banging of various kitchen utensils resulted in his father purchasing a drum set for his rhythmically inclined son. Paul SG has been on a life long journey in pursuit of beats ever since. 

Working close with LTJ Bukem & the infamous Goodlooking Records for more than half a decade has taught him a great deal of professional attitude and perfectionism which Paul went on to put into his own label Jazzsticks Recordings.

Working and releasing with over 25 different Recordlabels in the past 8 years including Goodlooking, Liquid V, Innerground, Shogun Audio and many more he has no intentions to stop but decided to concentrate more and nearly exclusive on his label.
Paul has been busy not only creating original work but also went to do remixes for various labels in and outside of Drum and Bass including officially remixing Bonobo for Tru Thoughts in 2014.

After countless singles, various EPs, Paul SG released his debut LP “This Is Me” on his
own imprint Jazzsticks Recordings in october 2016 featuring vocal artists T.R.A.C., Conrad, Angelina Dove & Grimm. The Album went straight to #1 on Junodownload´s salescharts and is considered being one of the strongest and most influential albums in drum & bass in 2016.

Fast forward to 2020 shows Paul celebrating 10 Years Of Jazzsticks, his influential label, taking the brand around Europe and beyond.

Bern Bass Podcast 61 - Paul SG (March 2020)

Elliot Payne aka Madcap started DJing in the early 90's after being exposed to music since his early childhood, being brought up in a musican family. In 1995 he started working at local record shop Buzz Records in High Wycombe and witnessed the worldwide explosion of Jungle D&B. 
In 2002 he won the Movement / Technics DJ Competition which led to more and more bookings throughout the UK and to promoting his own local events featuring artists such as Goldie, Randall, Nookie and Break to name but a few.
Since 2006 Madcap has had an impressive run of releases on labels such as LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking Records, Randall’s Mac II, Liquid V, AKO Beatz and Soul Deep amongst others. Furthermore, he remixed several classics such as the seminal 1993 Moving Shadow classic ‘You Got Me Burning Up’ and Nookie's sparse jazz hardstep lovechild 'Drum, A Bass & A Piano’.

In 2013 Madcap relaunched the pioneering jungle label Creative Wax which is co-run alongside his old friend, legendary DJ Pulse. Together they have released several new tracks, selected back catalogue on vinyl as well as new and retro merchandise.

2015 saw Madcap begin his monthly ‘Creative Wax Show’ on http://futuresoundsradio.com where you can catch him on the last Sunday of each month playing fresh new D&B, Jungle & Old School. Other recent studio projects include working with artists such as Furney, Digital, Jaybee (Mac II), Paul SG (Jazzsticks) and many more to come.
