Kettenkarussell - Fusion (live)

Luigi Tozzi is an Italian DJ, live act and producer known for his atmospheric and immersive performances. 
He is an adroit manipulator of sounds, reflected in his productions that fall into the deeper, atmospheric areas of electronic music. They are impactful without applying force, evoking a cocoon-like sento in its listeners. 
Tozzi found his artistic home on labels like the Swedish Hypnus Records or Non-Series, where he regularly releases. 
Since his first release on Hypnus in 2014, he contributed numerous times to their catalogue and label showcases. 
His major project on the label is the "Deep Blue" album trilogy released in 2014, 2016, and 2021. 
It draws inspiration from a profound fascination with the oceanic world, a recurring theme in both Tozzi’s life and work. 
In 2023, an especially adapted ambient version of “Deep Blue” premiered in London. Tozzi's releases on Non-Series, like “Tender is the Night” (2019), “Almost Blue” (2021), and “Spiral” (2023), emphasize distinct sound elements and focus on techno with a minimalist aesthetic.

Furthermore, he contributed to a variety of labels like Mental Modern, OUTIS Music and Calipso.

Besides his work as a Live Act, DJ, and producer, Tozzi is involved in sound designs for art and film projects and is known for collaborations with other musicians and artists.

For the twelfth episode of The Phonica Mix Series and to commemorate an entire year of mixes, we are proud to present an excellent mix from Roi Perez.

Originally from Israel, Dj & producer Perez was resident at the Tel Aviv PAG parties for many years before relocating to Berlin about two years ago. In this short time there, he's already made a name for himself and been invited to play at some of the best spots in town including the infamous Lab.Oratory and Berghain's Panorama Bar. It's his closing sets at Panorama Bar that have captured peoples attention…one in particular spanning 10 hours into Monday afternoon.

For home use only’ is an anti-club social, a chance to get to know someone/something. A series of transmissions purely dedicated to exploring the other side.

So here we are, number 28. All grown up, thinking we know everything and that the world is at our beck and call. Little do we know, that is exactly what we know - little. Consistently hungry for knowledge, we peruse through the audible world looking for spikes in our interest in every way or form. Sometimes knowledge finds us. In this case, it comes in a form of a single human by the name of Chris, or Chris SSG or Chris of the former musical oracle, MNML SSGS aka Minimal Sausages (r.i.p). And it shall be known from this moment forward as, Number 28. 

 
If you’re reading this then you probably have Chris to thank. He was a pivotal influence in my (and probably your) musical upbringing. For five solid years,Chris and PC (the other founding member) consistently flooded the world with incredible mixes and unbiased musical journalism through their blog. Most of the mixes are still very much alive and well to this day, in-fact they’re quite sort after. After the end of SSGS, Chris moved to Tokyo to continue to sooth the world in his own unique way, veering away from the traditional ideals of “dance” music and how it's perceived and listened to. 

 

This mix is a testament to that. Playing ambient music to a club full of people has always been a personal dream of mine (you don’t have to dance to enjoy yourself and at least there’s a chance that people will finally shut up on the dance floor). Strung together perfectly, the journey entails so many beautiful and subtle twists and turns that it perfectly fits every atmosphere. Just over two hours of pure bliss, I liken the mix to a session in an isolation tank, relaxing yet stimulating. Odd soundscapes laced with beautiful folk music all woven together with the cream of what we now know as “ambient music” (until we find a more appropriate term).

 
Chris will be doing his thing at the next ONO party (TIP! some very good friends doing some very good things/ link below). He’s joining some other great thinkers alike in bring forth of what will be an incredible night of music.

The mistake is in thinking music is about music. Music is about people. The bonds we make, the experiences we share, the conversations we have: this is the meaning and substance of it. This podcast was made possible by Nadine in Germany, Josh and Gregory in Taiwan, Eileen in Singapore, Toss in Japan, Louis in Australia, and all the producers whose music I used. It was recorded at ‘Soft Landing’, the first ambient event hosted by The Council in Singapore in July 2019. The recording reflects that context and moment, but hopefully carries to wherever you are. The area was teeming with hospitable islets of ancient forest, filled with grouping spiral patterns, separated by foamy seas of spongy stone, which, in neat curves, infused their presence into this fortunate flora...The abundance of birds and swirling insects vibrated against of an imperceptibly rising sloping mountain...In the center of which was a gaping crevice, what was giving freedom to the flow of water that was falling into the unknown, hidden green veil...

The sounds of the river, splashed with ecstatic drops...They were together...Slowly moving on their boat in this stream of non-reflective nature, periodically looking into each other's eyes, but without saying a word, in some unknown way, with glances from the outside, they contemplated their incarnations, and, perhaps, saw them for the first time without an illusion...
The waves of time beat against the sides of the boat, leaving small notches, similar to mathematical mandalas, depicting the structure of space - from the electron to the galaxy...

Nature was happy to help them and show where is impulse that forms the experience of a fundamental nature comes from and share this elixir of life...Having drained the cups, the experience of dissolving ego contributed the opportunity to finally turn the vector of attention into direction of higher dimensions...Following comprehension of unite organism, which is in constant transformation, communicating at every moment, the deeply experienced mystery of an unfulfilled future, gives an awareness of responsibility for its fate, cause only by accepting it you can hear this score of the biocosmic symphony...

Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. I've never really been comfortable with Artist or DJ titles or whatever. Perhaps "music obsessed" suits me better. Probably a more fitting description.

Q. How long have you been a part of the NYC music scene?
A. I landed in New York in 2007. I thought that was it. After Detroit, next chapter. In retrospect, I was just on a DJ hiatus. I guess I've been a part of Brooklyn's DJ scene for a little over a decade.

Q. Tell us about this mix.
A. I've been toying with the idea of doing a different kind of mix for a while. Juanita's was the perfect opportunity to showcase a different side. So, thank you. Most people who know me think Acid. House. Techno. Electro. Bangers Only! This mix is not that. I've always been heavily influenced by my 90's upbringing. A musically rich and significant era. The elements of atmosphere, mood, and spirit come into play for this mix. It's a bit nostalgic and sentimental. A one take, vinyl only situation recorded at home just yesterday. A stream of consciousness summer head nod for a rainy day, or a sunny one. Meant to uplift and inspire. It is necessary to keep our optimism and focus up with the music that moves us, and to share that. It is an extension of love and hope in our extreme times. Press play. Turn up. Enjoy.
