It was an incredible Mix of Hip Hop, Swingbeat, 70's Rare Grooves an new British Soul. It was my strongest musical influence at the time. In the early 90ies I saw concerts of Incognito, The Brand New Heavies, Raw Stylus und many more in Berlin and also talked to a young UK DJ in 1990 by the name of Gilles Peterson, who played the fresh Talkin Loud sound from the turntables. This is my tribute live mix with the sound of that era to give you a taste of the timeless positive vibe of the time. Feel the Vibe! "

For almost twenty years the eclectic collective from Berlin has been busy producing, composing, arranging, remixing, djing and generally shaping our musical world – in the clubs, on the air, in the studio, live on stage, and with their label Sonar Kollektiv.

Their “very fertile musical world” (Time Out New York) “has dominated the jazz-dance and down-tempo scenes for the past few years, both with its own label and with countless remixes” (Phoenix New Times).

Spreading their sounds and ideas with inspired DJ sets, Jazzanova’s DJs were among the first DJs from Berlin in demand all around the world. Juergen von Knoblauch, Alex Barck and Claas Brieler broaden the music’s appeal as DJs, not only on tour through the best clubs and festivals around the world but also on their weekly Kaleidoskop radio show on Radio1.

Five years of WEDDING SOUL, we look back on so far 60 shows of this small big event series. The jubilee is now celebrated according to the mood, with a two-day program, with exquisite guests, representing what WEDDING SOUL is: a well thought-out mixture of soul and funk-inspired music culture, the roots of these in the back, the present and the future in view. Always danceable and audible, surprising, new, and yet as if there had never been anything other than a connection between heart, dance, and soul.

On the Saturday night of this year's Bestival the legendary Mr Scruff played a 4-hour set of Funk, Soul and Disco gems to a rammed Staceys.
The room was effectively a perfect Disco - a beautifully tuned soundsystem, plenty of mirror-balls and a 'Soul Train'-esq decor.

As a music activist and DJ, XJAZZ Festival, Berlin co-founder and booker Daniel W. Best has more than three decades of experience behind the decks. The sound with which he brings his audiences worldwide into ecstasy constantly changes between jazz, soul, reggae, rare groove, disco and house - sometimes all in one set. He has released several compilations incl. Polish Jazz (JCR) , Best Seven Selections 1,2,3 (Sonar Kollektiv), GIDisco compiled together with Kalle Kuts (BBE) and released electronic music under the Winnie & Somow moniker. He also runs the weekly XJazz radioshow on Flux FM, Berlin.
