Making my return to the Playa for the sixth time held special meaning for me as it does every year. However I see Burning Man like lovers. You can't compare them, they're uniquely different experiences. And just like the complexity of lovers, my Burn was magical, beautiful, intense, emotional, intoxicating, lustful, serendipitous, mesmerizing, and yes, sometimes just a pain in the ass.

Still, after all these years, it's my favorite thing on the planet! Playing on the bus is beyond an honor. Sharing my music and reciprocating energy from that perspective with the open canvas and unparalleled conditions is an indescribable feeling. What I'm trying to say is, it all comes from the Heart.

art: Soup Flavored Blankets 

Soup Flavored Blankets creates a welcoming and interactive space dedicated to the chilly, wandering souls of deep playa. Within the walls of our cracker box, participants will experience a rag tag team of Burners providing delectable hot soups, steaming libations and cozy blankets equipped with a convenient soup/beverage pouch. Playa wanderlust exists within all of us and Soup Flavored Blankets is your rejuvenation station along the way.
We're a multifarious crew of friends from Los Angeles, Reno, Chicago and New York who share a passion for soup and service. The SFB story stems from a brief moment many, many years ago, far beyond Black Rock City's Esplanade, on a frigid deep playa evening. There, gazing at the brothtaking sky and discussing the soupernatural, sat our founder, Noodles and his brother, Max. Although initially vibrant and jovial, their topic of discussion soon shifted to the bitter cold air and a desire for simple pleasures.

"I could sure go for a blanket right now. You know, warm me up from the outside in." Max remarked as he shivered in the deepest of deep playa.

"I could go for a bowl of soup to warm me up from the inside out!" Noodles replied.
Now what followed may be the worst idea ever uttered as Max suggested: "How about a bowl of blanket flavored soup?"
In a harsh tone, Noodles replied: "That's sounds disgusting! Who want's to eat soup that tastes like blankets!?"
Hours passed and their situation worsened. But suddenly, a dusty thought shot out of the Man's neon head, blew across the playa, swirled around the temple walls and shot directly into Noodles's noggin as an idea of spectacular brilliance.
"Some Soup Flavored Blankets, now that would be warmly delicious!" He proclaimed.
Max agreed! And the two brothers jumped to their feet, crossed the cold desert floor and returned to camp to procrastinate for seven years.
As veteran burners we understand the significance of your trash fence quest and the sometimes difficult elements you encounter. Soup Flavored Blankets is a warm soupy refuge and our gift to the many wandering souls of Burning Man.

It took a while before I received this recording but finally it is here. My set from the camp that I so proudly joined: Bubbles and Bass. I played there on Wednesday morning,  after I had spent one of the most fun nights of my life with my playa family. @nikisadeki had played a beautiful sunrise set and I was flying with so many old and new friends that were there to dance with me. I want to thank @bubbles-and-bass for embracing me and having me in their camp. Every sunrise party that we threw, every bottle of champagne we opened, every time somebody screamed "Bubbles" on the playa there was a huge smile on my face. And that smile is still there when I think about all the moments I experienced during that week. There was love and laughter everywhere. But time for contemplation, insights and lessons too. It was one of the most intense experiences I have had and it probably took until now to really process it. So what a timing that I find this recording in my inbox a few days ago. Thank you so much @m-tort for sending me this. You are fucking legend!! Enjoy this mix for now, hopefully I can meet some of you listeners soon and tell the whole story about this set cause it was a really funny ride. Dusty hugs and love you all!!

TantRut @ Burning Man 2018 - Bubbles and Bass

It was the last sunrise on our beloved Playa, and the morning of Temple Burn. It was also the most beautiful, absolutely surreal transformation of our moon and sun, upon the coldest night of the Burn. The energy, vibe, and temperature, quickly elevated, provided a state of bliss thanks to our all-giving sun! All these elements, along with the citizens of Black Rock City, who lift our spirits, reminded and reassured us that we’re surrounded by pure LOVE! The incredible and unique ART continues to inspire us, igniting our inner light, liberating us from our fears, and encouraging us all to be living our best lives. 

 For us, it’s an absolute pleasure and honor to be a part of such an incredible art project, broadening people’s imaginations and inspiring others to dream BIG! Reminding us of our purpose to prove the testament that MUSIC really is the answer.

Today’s special brings you some Californian sunshine to heat up this freezing European Monday! Please join us in welcoming Dear Humans with their deep and soulful Sunshine Fizz!

Dear Humans, based in Los Angeles, and consisting of DJ, producer and instrumentalist Epstein as well as vocalist and songwriter Alex Who?, refer to themselves as an intergalactic electro band.  

Originally from Colorado, Epstein has been a musician and producer for over 20 years. Originally an instrumentalist, he was first exposed to electronic music in 1997 and started djing house music in the Denver club scene by 2002. Epstein has been bringing together the sounds of Ibiza, Tulum, and Burning Man into melodic, dance floor-bound beats that are infused with live instruments and synthesizers. In March 2018, Epstein launched NCTRNL Recorcds which has quickly established itself as one of LA’s top deep house labels.

Alex Who? Is a Dutch-Tanzanian Singer, songwriter, actress, model and performer. From a very young age Who? sang and acted, which led to her attending the Amsterdam school for Theatre and the Performing Arts while also traveling the world performing in clubs, leading a five-piece Jazz band and presenting a nationwide music television programme in Turkey. After graduating Who? was awarded various roles in Dutch television series and film before her demo caught the attention of Craig Kallman, CEO of Atlantic records.
That triggered her move to the states, getting signed by Empire Records and releasing two EP’s in the past few years.

Dear Humans created its first waves with their release “Like You” a few months back. It hasn't been one year since Corey and Alex joined forces and we already can't wait to get more of this fantastic combination of smokey, soulful vocals paired with deep electronic grooves. And, since they spend quite some time in the studio lately, we're excite to what's coming next!

I always found it challenging to record a studio podcast: my analytical mind is trying to calculate every move, evaluate each transition & criticize the selection. I have time, music & equipment at my disposal, but one key element is missing to really tell a story: humans.
____

I encountered that problem last weekend. Although I was playing music I enjoy, I felt that my technically structured mix was too stiff and impersonal. 

____

Then, some of my favourite humans turned up at the studio. As Ashley, Apolline, Axel & Robin entered the room, the studio was suddenly filled with a great energy & I felt like pressing the rec button again, just for fun - this is when the first minutes of  S y m b i o s e  were captured.

I feel this studio mix is an authentic representation of the energy levels I like to navigate through during a longer set. It features some of my favourite tracks in a nod to the past but also has a touch of the future; new sounds that are moving me forward & some of my new compositions.

I’m happy to share this mix as I’m taking off for Argentina, what marks my first adventure of the decade. This music session brought me clarity, presence & joy! I hope you'll resonate with it.
