Bodega Pirate Radio Episode #55: Sasha Marie

Ten Toes Down is the name for the exploratory Trio of Drew Kid on Keys, Sweet Corey-Bey on Bass and DeZ McNeil on Drums. This group formed in early 2020 after finding synergy in the jam session at the legendary House of Secrets in LeDroit Park. 

This recording features the band in the fall of 2020 exploring variations in rehearsal of a Raga performed by Esperanza Spalding on an Instagram live that Drew and Sweet attended virtually.

The result was an immersive and cascading sound direction with drive from the drums, a foundation of accented and shifting repetitions in the bass  leaving Drew open to ascend and test the width of the harmonic dimensions.

For the Source is the anticipated full-length debut album of musical collective Black Folks Don’t Swim? who has been expanding their energy in and around the DC Metro area since their founding in early 2018.

'Music They Love'... we ask DJ's and producers to delve into their collection and put together a selection of records that have meant a lot to them in the past, as well as the present. All things inspirational and influential - the records which have shaped their sound as a producer or selection as a DJ.

For our 40th iteration of the series we are joined by the fabulous NYC-based DJ @jadalareign. JADA is the senior curator for Halfmoon BK, a black-owned grassroots online radio platform, and the former social media manager for DW Artists, the artist agency branch of @discwoman. Most recently, JADA founded and produces a workshop and discussion series titled SKILLSHARE, centring womyn, non-binary and LBGTQ people of colour, with topics including DJing, audio production, event production, community building and professional development.

JADA put together a soulful mix, featuring records from the likes of Robert Glasper,  Jay Dee, KeiyaA, Minnie Ripperton & more!
