Another original piece this time. I just finished a massive project today so took some time out to practice composing. Post-lullaby-adventures in your sleep, battling dream goblins and saving imaginary princesses and all that jazz. It quite heavily feature's Orange Tree Sample's new Evolution Steel String library which I can definitely recommend to anyone needing acoustic goodness.

This is a little Zelda remix though. I've wanted to do one for a while but never known which track to actually do. This is the Darkworld theme and then an encore of the Zelda motif.

Zelda ALTtP - Dark World Theme

An original piece of music I composed after some random inspiration today. Hopefully this conveys some kind of epic sea-faring, pirate-filled craziness. 

From initial tinkerings to the final piece posted on YouTube, it was around 3 hours work. The video includes the original piano sketches I made to start with to give an idea of how the piece evolved from start to finish (other than going from 4/4 to 3/4).

It's roughly an hour or so of work so it's nothing mindblowingly crazy - just a little orchestral tinkering based around the idea of a storm. Woodwindy runs and epicness ahoy.

Zelda WW - Dragon Roost Island Orchestra

An original piece composed by Blake Robinson. This time there's no bombastic brass, cymbal smashes or epic timpani. I wanted a more intricate peice without falling back onto blasting horns and bones in your face as I always seem to. This is sort of based around my Boogie Man ethos, though it's only a passing inspiration. I've decided to start a little project that I'll be posting more about soon.

At night we get out and play

I gave the synthetic orchestra the day off and went the other way for a change, taking an orchestrated piece and giving it the 16bit treatment. This is the Fallout 3 title theme as you'd hear it on a Super Nintendo. I used various SNES soundfonts (sorry - I don't know the source, I just had them from years ago) and downscaled it.

An original piece of music by myself. This is a rework of a piece I wrote as a kid (around 1998). Back then it sounded super crap (I did it in a mod tracker wth 100k of samples on my Atari ST. Those were the days). I didn't listen to the piece before making it - just went from memory to make sure I wasn't just pure remaking.

Floating Away

This is my interpretation of the main theme from the survival horror 'Rule of Rose'. It started off as me mucking about with the piano and went from there. The original soundtrack has this amazing sounding string quartet that I wanted to keep the feel of, but also bring in the whole string section at one point. I think it all came together in the end. 

There might be some melody mistakes as I went from memory/guessing on this piece. This was also a bit of a self-challenge. I normally mix and match a lot of libraries but with this I decided to only use Spitfire commercial products. Everything used to make this piece is available to the average consumer.

An unhealthy obsession

An orchestration of Song of Healing from The Legend Of Zelda - Majora's Mask. I'd never paid much attention to the Zelda music until recently. I wish I had gotten into it much earlier as there's so many good pieces of music hidden behind 8bit blips and blops. I have a 'making of' video for this piece of music that's coming as soon as I chop it up!

Mine tends to focus on the song. I imagined that song like a sailor hymn.

I've been tinkering with music since I was a kid, composing tunes for fun. Nowadays, I mainly write orchestral scores for video games.
