Sonic storytelling from Glasgow's ambient power duo Somewhere Press. The mix is, according to Caapi and Lizzie Urquhart, a musing on the Divine Feminine, which got me thinking about something James Hillman, archon of all things archetypal, said about the study of Beauty. Apparently (so says James) the ancient root of the word "Aesthetics" comes close to meaning "I breathe in" and the mixes, releases and vibe of Somewhere Press has certainly breathed something beautiful into Glasgow's musical landscape. Piper Loi is the solo moniker of Francesco Leoci, founder of Alley Version and part of FLML.
Junkbox consists of four primitive house and techno tracks recorded on a multitrack cassette recorder with reduced instrumentation, an half damaged Casio RZ-1 and little else.

Last March, our good friend @opulmcr made his live debut in the main room of Wellington Studio for the second edition of Positive Harmony.

For about an hour, a small, intimate crowd gathered to experience a set that opened with deep, contemplative ambient layers textured and immersive before gradually moving into more minimal, groove-driven sounds.

The whole performance felt elegant and meditative, capturing a unique moment of focused creativity within the artist’s space, far from the club environment.

Both totally blew us away and we have the pleasure of presenting the full recording of Phil Banks’ set from the night.

This week's animix comes from the incredible duo, Atrice (@atricemiras) - a mystical pairing who are part of a pool of insanely talented artists in the small Central European state, Switzerland -  there is a seemingly bursting ratio of talent per capita in this country!.

Drawing inspiration from everyday encounters and digital overstimulation, Atrice's music is refreshing, unique and modern - idm, experimental & bass driven - it somehow also sits perfectly amongst the class & purity of old school & solidified genres like dub, bass, techno - which is seen in their releases on labels like Illian Tape. 

On top of their productions and live sets, Lino & Pablo extend their craft with their on theme DJ'ing - always presenting new & exciting.. and always making perfect sense. For their animix, a beautiful journey through dub and beyond.

Второй микс прозвучал на Mutant Radio в передаче Druga Liga от Olta Karawane.

Теперь я один, с чуть более светлым ощущением музыки. Новый сет продолжает линию: тягучая, разножанровая музыка становится метафорой того, как из распада рождается жизнь, как в болоте шумов и полутонов пробиваются хрупкие цветы. Здесь звуковая ткань балансирует между экспериментальной электроникой и даунтемпо, впитывая элементы эмбиента, IDM и трип-хопа. В этом переплетении возникает новое звучание — и новое ощущение мира.

This mix continues the series that began with Jeddah. The first set, Burning Peatland, evoked a scent familiar to every Yekaterinburg native: seemingly harmless, slightly anxious, at times even sweet — yet in truth a harbinger of a slow-moving forest catastrophe. The second mix was broadcast on Mutant Radio within Olta Karawane’s Druga Liga.

Now I stand alone, with a somewhat brighter sense of sound. This new set follows the same line: viscous, cross-genre music becomes a metaphor for how life emerges from decay, how fragile flowers break through the swamp of noise and half-tones. The sonic fabric here balances between experimental electronics and downtempo, absorbing elements of ambient, IDM, and trip-hop. Out of this weave a new resonance arises — and with it, a renewed perception of the world.

Not a piece to just listen to in passing. It will challenge you. Get involved and you will experience a rapid flight through time with all its antagonisms.
