Black Light Disco with Fingerman April 2025

Funkier Sounds celebrated its 6th birthday with an hour of tunes from me and then an hour of tunes from a DJ and producer that I’ve been into forever. My hour was the usual mix - starting things mid-tempo and funky, bringing things down a notch and then cranking things a touch with a few promo goodies before the handover.

In hour 2 I was dead chuffed to welcome none other than Fingerman. Gregg’s a bit of a legend in the game, and someone who I looked up to loads before I got into producing. Love that I’ve put out a couple of bits on his annual Hot Digits compilations (eyes on this year!), love that we hung out at Glasto a few years back, and love that he’s done a brilliant mix for my show! It’s the expected level of lushness, launching straight in after the trademark spoken intro. Gets quite full on towards the end too, but always keeping it cool, well-mixed and very Fingerman.

Funkier Sounds Episode 159 - Fingerman Guest Mix

I recently got to play at the long running daytime disco, funk and house event MFSB in Edinburgh and although I didn't manage to record the set live on the day I've recreated the experience here with all the tracks that I played. The Black Light Disco Show bites into the bagel that is the My House Radio airwaves and blasting a beam of happiness out of your speakers to massage your ears. 

This week it’s the turn of the deadly duo of Cole Kutz and Ste Hendry Esteban (our eminent Doctors of Sonic Research currently resident in BLD Towers). And what a two hour extravaganza these fine gentlemen have lined up for your listening pleasure.

Remixer extraordinaire Eric Kupper takes a set of epic, lost recordings from 1982, that feature the cream of the crop session musicians behind the soulful Sound of Philadelphia - Earl Young (drums), Ronnie Baker (bass), Norman Harris (guitar), Lenny Pakula (organ), Larry Washington (percussion), Vince Montana, Jr. (vibes, keyboards), John Bonnie (saxophone) – along with powerhouse vocalists Joe Freeman, David Simmons, Bobby Love and Ron Tyson, and lovingly applies his own modern sheen, spinning them into ear candy for today’s listener as well as those who were there from the very beginning. Goz & Esteban - Summer Madness

The idea of Black Light Disco became a real thing when a few like-minded DJs and producers came together to put on a night showcasing the very best in disco, house and funk and everything in between. Our ethos is based around a very simple concept: GOOD MUSIC, GOOD TIMES with GOOD PEOPLE. We announced ourselves on a gorgeous sunny Saturday in June 2019 with an all day and night party in Liverpool’s thriving Baltic Triangle area. It was the start of something very special. 

We have a solid core group of musical talent residing in BLD Towers hailing from England, Scotland, Wales, Northen Ireland and Italy -  providing perfectly cooked grooves and juicy basslines. 

The BLD team comprises of Esteban, Goz (Spin City), Pookie Knights, Cole Kutz (Opentempo.fm) De Gama and Fingerman (Hot Digits) – clocking up decades of DJ’ing and dancefloor experience between us. As individuals, the BLD team have been producing consistently high quality sets over the last few years. Now, as a collective, the aim is to make Black Light Disco THE place to promote new music and to bring you the very best in established/up-and-coming artists and producers in the sunlit uplands of sonic pleasure. 

In January 2020, we launched a weekly show on THE biggest house music FM radio station in New York, MyHouseRadio.fm (also available digitally at www.myhouseradio.fm).  The Black Light Disco Show airs every Monday exclusive to MyHouse Radio between 7pm – 9pm GMT (2pm -4pm EST), bringing you the finest in disco, funk and boogie; all delivered by our expert in-house Sonic Consultants (resident DJs) with guest mixes from the hottest producers, DJs and artists out there right now.
