@chris_carter's highly anticipated solo album Chemistry Lessons Volume 1 has just been released by @muterecords, and we are super excited to share with you a two hour mix that he made for Bleep.

Having changed the electronic landscape with his central role as part of Throbbing Gristle (@industrial-records), X-TG, Chris & Cosey, Carter Tutti, Carter Tutti Void to name but a few of his projects. Chemistry Lessons Volume 1 shows that even after all these years his thirst and endless quest to craft innovative, mind-blowing electronic music shows no sign of slowing down.

This record is an extension of a foray into trance ritual music.
It's structured as a companion for film, meditation, vision seeking & sound rest.

It's by nature a nature worship record, combing acoustic percussive improvisation, sensory foley, vocalized staccatos, and a specific brew of physical/metaphysical sound relations....mind hush/thought flush/spirit rush/sun rise.

Inspired by an initiation ceremony of the Bwiti/Fang people of Gabon. This collection relays a fragmented branch of timings of this ceremony. Plus proposes alter paths for the sacred (Mougongo) instrument.

Recoded + Restructured + Reflected as a time capsule.

With fullest respect/blessings to breeze the Bwiti understandings through current climate.

Proceeds of this record will be donated to Tata-Yo (Nganga), Ebando.

Taiwan-born, Berlin-based composer and audio technologist, Mei-Fang Liau is 'Floating Spectrum'. Her debut album 'A Point Between' has just been released on Temporary Residence and is a collection of ambient sounds sourced from synthesizers, self-made generative software programmes and household objects.

For her Bleep mix she has created a textured world similar to that displayed across her record, featuring the likes of Raime, Laurie Anderson and Tim Hecker, alongside her own productions.

This quote from the composer of Peter Gunn, The Pink Panther, and Breakfast at Tiffany's seems to speak of the power of music and the bleakness of humanity, however while listening to The Blues and the Beat I feel as though I've entered into a lounge frequented by only the most dashing 60's era spies.  There is a great rendition of "Misty" on side one and, whenever you hear the piano, know that it is the one and only John "Little Johnny Love" Williams, the prolific composer of blockbuster film scores!

Henry Mancini: The Blues and the Beat(RCA Victor 1960)

There is no greater feeling for us than when one of our nearest ‘n’ dearest leaves a top tier PEPMIX submission in the SP Inc. pigeonhole.
 
So when we asked the lovely Vid to do just that, not only did we singlehandedly broker an historic deal to usher in an unprecedented era of pan-Mersey peacetime, Vid ran with the brief and posted back a real home-run of a touchdown of a mix.

Vid (real name Vidyut Vardhan), the eclectic host of Netil Radio’s show ‘Radio Vid’, provided us with 2 hours of typically charismatic ambient textures. Vid’s shows are a delicate curation of Modern Classical, Jazz, Indian Raga, Dub, Acoustic Ambience, Space-Age Synths, and Soft-Pop, and track a devoted musical mind through his heritage in Delhi to his life in London via Liverpool. His shows reflect a minimalist appreciation of space, allowing his selections to breathe whilst giving the listener an opportunity to stop and consider.

The PEPMIX has it’s origins in a two-hour show that never aired from the start of lockdown, and has proved a source of reflection and serenity during these bullshit, turbulent times we find ourselves in. It is both a careful and genuine consideration of a shared chaotic experience, and a meditative spirit-booster. It’s even got Jeff Bridges in it. 

As a character who is very close to the crew, and one who has shared so much inspiration, knowledge, and good got-damn times, it is a pleasure to be able to feature Vid. We hope you can enjoy this as much as we have done.

"I thought I would make a mix every day of lockdown. that self-preserving grasping of ones comforting crafts is probably all too familiar to the creative types who found themselves sucked into the airlock of this awful year. it turns out, as with DJing, that it helps me to be in some sort of cathartic mood to make a mix. i can’t sit with sadness or i will never get up again; i have to feel what life it awakens in me. a sick blessing of 2020 is its abundance of these moods. grief, loss, comfort, boredom, directionless energy- all here in an hour of records pulled on the fly w some drunken genius/mistakes. just another night. enjoy , ty for listening and let’s return stronger than ever."

B4. Evan Woodward

This mix was created in January of 2021 through a veil of deep reflection, mourning, and the desire to attain catharsis. All of these songs, many by absolute masters in their respective genres, feature a form of ecstatic vocal centered around the voice as a direct connection to the collective human soul and beyond. Gratitude has become a centering space for me to dwell in the midst of these troubling times. There are moments in this mix that bring me to tears of gratitude for the divine beauty and sheer power of human breath to give life to everything it touches, even within a cataclysmal storm.
