Tanaka Hiroaki (1959–2004) was a Japanese poet from Osaka. A student of Hatano Sōha, he published many of his works in the journal Ao 青 (“Blue”), of which he became editor in 1979. In 2000, he founded his own journal, Yū ゆう.

Disquiet Junto Project 0727: Chord of Omnis
The Assignment: Celebrate the 50th anniverary of the Oblique Strategies card deck.

Step 1: Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt published the first edition of their Oblique Strategies card deck in 1975, which makes 2025 the deck’s 50th anniversary. Note the milestone — and if you’re not familiar with the deck, read up a bit.

Step 2: Select at random two cards from the deck. If you don’t have a deck, there are various free web and mobile apps that reproduce it.  [Cards I got: Embrace repititions + simple subtractions]

Step 3: Record a piece of music that somehow combines or reconciles the two directions that resulted from Step 2.

These songs were inspired by an image of an Ontario landscape, a place I’ve never visited, then or now. They were recorded in an apartment, with no post-production.

An improvisation using my Elrick 6 string bass and an ebow.

in the last hour of darkness before the dawn of a new year

This piece was created from two very long jams. The first involved a granulated piano sample from Eric Satie annihilated into mush, processed and resonated, and played over a period of about 3 hours. The second is an aggressive bass from the wonderfully evil Serge Medusa with some added noise. Assembly and post production in Ableton, including adding some field recorded materials.

Yes it sounds a bit like something else.
