Fool’s Gold

Humans are the only species who preserve a lasting relationship from parents to children and vice versa after the offspring has reached adolescence. This can be curse and blessing at the same time in some cases, but overall it is a gift in my view. We will stay the children of our parents for a lifetime obviously. Once you have realized this and don't consider it a threat anymore you are given the chance to close the circle in a peace- and beautiful way.

Looking at old photographs, well I had to laugh out loud
Looking at the hair and the clothes
What were we thinking of

Oh and how the world was changing
And we were being left behind
Like being carried along inside a whale

We all left school for the dole apparently no one wanted coal
And on the Tyne they were no longer building ships
They had all sailed East where it was cheap

But looking at these photographs doesn't reflect none of that
These faces that I see and that I'm looking at
They're all smiles and attitude and laughs
We've all moved on and sadly some of us are long gone......

Photographs

This piece unfolds like a breath made visible — structured, intentional, yet deeply human in its fragility. In the opening, we see repetition rooted in the lower registers, almost mechanical yet comforting, like the steady rhythm of a clock marking each second with devotion. These patterns seem to echo the mundane rituals of life, the unnoticed beauty in routine, the sacred silence of presence.
As we move forward, a gentle escalation begins. Notes rise, one after another, reaching toward something unseen. There's a yearning here — a soft insistence — as if time itself were stretching, holding its breath. Then suddenly, the lines splinter upward: sharp bursts of high notes like thoughts breaking through stillness, or memories surfacing with urgency.
Midway through, this breath becomes restless. The motif repeats with variations, suggesting reflection, perhaps even inner conflict. The density increases, not chaotically, but like a mind trying to grasp something just beyond reach — a moment, a feeling, a forgotten truth.
Then comes the climb again. But it’s not the same as before. This time, it carries wisdom, as if the breath has learned from its own rhythm. The final ascent is quieter, more deliberate, like a farewell exhale — tender, aware of its own impermanence. And finally, the descent: a peaceful surrender, a return to stillness, where time no longer counts — it just is.

This is a cover of one of my favorite songs by the artist Fink. I made an acoustic instrumental version, loosely based on the original, however using some of the key melodies and riffs. The track develops into a full band halfway during this track. I hope you'll enjoy my version... -Dan
