The ninth excellent EP on Blindetonation comes from Colombian pair Juan RMS & Technicalissues with fresh remixes from Curses and Aurum Miles.

Juan RMS & Technicalissues have been making music together since 2013. Exploring the regions where minimal, house and dub meet and creating exciting new forms as they go, the pair now run their own Lay Down The Groove label. Here they show off their combined skills with a slick new single. 

The brilliantly gritty ‘Indulgencias’ is a chugging track with dumpy drums and wiry, sinewy synths wrapping round the groove. A dark whispered vocal adds libidinousness as it rolls on, grows in intensity and mesmerises you as it goes. 

The first remix comes from Curses, the dark and romantic moniker from New York City native Luca Venezia who mixes up shades of Italo, electronic music and rock and roll. This essential version is more percussive, with slapping hits and tin pot rattles all underpinned with stabbed bass and spaced out synths. 

The remixes are completed  by Lithuania producer Aurum Miles, an artist who plays guitar, keyboards, drums and synths and makes electronic music infused with elements of rock. He was part of short live pair BlowEnder and now solo once more flips the track into a perfectly menacing and snaking tune with low slung bass and inhuman sound effects. 

This is a terrific trio of visceral disco cuts that are stuffed with masterfully designed details.

RRRHYTHM

Deep, original house music from a prodigiously talented young Russian producer.

Growing up in the same housing project as Proxy, Marseille got his start on Mako Records, but his sound has shifted away from the pounding, abrasive, bangers that put his little Moscow suburb on the map and developed into something far more accessible and melodic. 

Long hard Russian winters in relative isolation have clearly forged a distinct artistic identity. There are still production details rooted in the concrete grime of his neighbourhood - a soundscape mastered by his mentor, Proxy - but these chunks of grit and punch serve as accents which never overwhelm the whole. Born from a scene of blunt brutality, Marseille shows sensitivity and restraint in his music, still sounding 'tough' but leaving space for light to get in and emotion to exist.

For You is a piano-house epic with a super catchy hook and vocal sample. Definite pop potential. Perhaps the most indicative of his overall style, Soulsearcher combines sharp and glassy percussion with deep sub bass and a terrific swaying Voodoo Ray-like vocal. Turn the Musik is a stripped down club jacker, shifting the focus away from melodic elements to a loud and proud drum groove. Bonus track Sin adds another dimension to the package, adding R&B vocals to a funky synth-pop top line.

In sheer rapture, Riotvan hereby announces... Curses, the most classy and charming prince of darkness that contemporary dance music has to offer, is debuting on the label with a new release. 

We’ve seen him on remix duties for New Hook recently. Still, here we find him submitting two originals, crafted with his regular companion, Dame Bonnet, on the bass and showcasing a rather tender sentiment within the signore’s emotional spectrum. 'Premonitions' aligns bass-driven Postpunk-verve with blissful synths and an overall romantic tuning that Human League or Tears For Fears would’ve sold some close relatives to achieve. 

'Salvation', on the other hand, builds a somewhat meditative, almost IDM-like grounding, on top of which Curses practices a head-spinning Talkbox-exorcism.

Exclusive remix of Los Angeles and Bologna based Nuovo Testamento's Heartbeat by Curses himself! Taken from the band's 2023 album Love Lines, Heartbeat - in its original form a shimmering italo synth pop number, part Danceteria-era Madonna, part Yazoo - has been ruthlessly retooled here by Curses for strobe lit sweatboxes. Shifting the emphasis from its sparkling synths and pop melody towards the rhythm section, the track's synth bass now dominates the track just as its martial kick drums and gated snares push us deeper into EBM territory.

‘Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX’ is a return to the dark romantic of the past, present and future. An undying passion for all things post-punk/wave/body music and beyond. Release date: October 20th. 2023

Taking us on a sleazy, strobe lit tour of the darker corners of clubland Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX is the second compilation curated for Eskimo Recordings by Luca Venezia, aka Curses. Threading the needle between early industrial, EBM, post-punk experiments and some of the most exciting music being made today, the 49 track compilation also features some of Luca's own exclusive remixes such as his 'Revamp' of New Beat classic J.W.B. Hits The Beat's 'Body On Body'.

Originally released back in 1987, Curses' remix brings the track right up date, pushing the tempo and toughening up the drums whilst stripping it back down to focus on the portentous choral synth pads and teasing us with its ecstatic vocal samples before the effervescent Italo melody brings it all together. A perfect synthesis of past and present, much like the compilation it's taken from.

@NeinRecords starts the year with the Techbeton EP titled ' Technobeton 2018' with remixes coming courtesy of Daniel Kyo, Pet Peeves (one half of Pin Up Club) and Walter.

@Technobeton was started in Sofia, Bulgaria as a joint venture corporation between 100% TECHNO and 100% BETON. The company aims to translate beats and basslines to concrete tracks and builds them in real scale and in 100% BETON, thus examining certain spatial and sculptural properties of contemporary Techno music. In a second conceptual loop the built concrete is being liquified to sound tracks and arranged in a loud timeline to 100% TECHNO. All together 100% TECHNO + 100% BETON react in a self-sufficient closed circuit and form the sound and vision of TECHNOBETON.

However, our pick of the release comes from Valencian @DanielKyo, who produces a typical high quality, dancefloor ready killer of a track to start the new year in fine fashion.

John Parsley concludes Sulk Magic’s maiden year with his debut EP on the imprint. Four typically sordid, doom laden original versions from the Swiss producer augmented with esoteric takes from Stove, Maya Danon and Ian Blevins.
The title track ‘Simple Days’ gyrates with agitated yet industrious drums providing the backdrop for perverted 303’s. ‘Fuck Yeah’, a cosmic disco throbber only suffering from slightly less chill than it’s associates offers respite before the eerie ‘Lost the Castle’ takes over with it’s dogged bass and shadowy bells. ‘Soldados Des Paz’ wind’s up Parsleys contribution with unyielding collisions and introspective pads.
Israeli artist Maya Danon and ESP Institute’s own Ian Blevins provide the dance floor fix with their brisker interpretations.
