The 600th Disquiet Junto challenge.
This week a shared sample pool challenge. The track is based on 7 wonderful samples provided by Marcus Fischer.

I started off the process with the intention of using only the Elektron Octatrack but quickly ran out of memory trying to load all of the long samples into Flex machines. The parts I did create as still present in the track, particularly a sliced and randomised section you can hear primarily near the end.
Restarting the process in Bitwig I decided to create a few of the tonal drones by playing the percussive sample (which also introduces the track and ends it in dry form) through a tuned comb filter and into a Convolution device with one of the 45 second long tonal samples loaded as the Impulse Response. As a result the transients in the sample strike the impulse response and excite the chord elements. Another of the tonal samples is loaded in a Sampler in granular mode, stretch set arbitrarily slower and 3 voices playing back spaced out sections of the sample. The length of the track (I know, I'm sorry) was set purely by waiting until one long held note on the sampler had fully played through the stretched sample.
From there one of the other samples was cut up and pitched down an octave to produce the slightly glitchy bass line. Other parts from the remaining samples added where I felt they worked in the arrangement.
All parts are created using only the samples.
One additional sample added in the background - a field recording of kids playing.

Live iPad jam around 3 samples by Marcus Fischer. The main theme is from manipulating one of the samples in Sector. Outside of these three sources there's one track of softpop, and multiple tracks of effects.

My creative goal with this one was to slow down.

Disquiet Junto Project 0600: Reaching Out The Assignment: This is a shared sample project. Rework a set of seven WAV files provided by Marcus Fischer.

Step 1: The musician Marcus Fischer, long a friend of and participant in the Disquiet Junto, has graciously put together a set of shared samples that will be the source audio for this project. Part of the beauty of a shared sample project is that there will be an underlying quality — a tonality, a texture, a commonality — to all the disparate works that are produced from the foundational material. Listening to the variations as they surface will be its own special source of pleasure. You can access the files here:

Step 2: You can rework the audio from Step 1 in any way that you see fit. You can use all of it, or just one tiny piece, or whatever subset you find strikes your ear. The one stipulation is your finished piece should begin and end with an unadulterated segment of one of the provided tracks for at least two seconds. Process notes - 

For this piece, I used an Ableton Live template that I developed for an ongoing (and similar) project with others in Sarah Belle Reid's Patreon community that we started in Sept 2022. Essentially, it is a way to process samples and then re-process the resampled material. My template also gives me enough flexibility to add/remove elements. For me, it's just a starting point from which I can grow sample-based materials in a generative manner.

Marcus provided 7 samples for this project but I only used 4 of them. 

Sample names - 
1 - 600_walking-mfischer
2 - 600_nacre_voit-mfischer
3 - 600_hands_held-mfischer
4 - 600_no_input_matrix_mixer-mfischer

The first three samples were put into my template/devices to pull slices using MIDI files as triggers which were arranged to add randomness to which slice was chosen as well as velocity and probability. 

The template channels as used here contain a sampler with some distorted or delay elements added. The resampled results of these were then run through devices that would add some ambience and resonance as well as sample-warp algoriths from Live.

The 4th was only processed by Ableton warp algorithms but per instructions, the piece starts & ends with an unaltered 2 seconds from this sample.

I feel I had explored something similar to 0605's assignment in my previous submission for disquiet 0591 (https://soundcloud.com/micheleisoni/7-7-7-disquiet-junto-0591?si=050e4e1202c4412f93dae7e17b7e82aa&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing).
This week I reflected upon rhythm and the balance between the first beat and the silence that follows it until the next one arises. 
I set up a patch to explore "space in time" building a rhythm that tries to change continuously space between beats to obtain something like a "gridless" time structure. 

The patch is basically a QPAS filter ping using a clock output from Tempi and Burst from Wogglebug. Maths and manual control of QPAS' VCA and a bit of Mimeophon + Microcosm Interrupt's second preset to glitch things.
