This Hour Of Crisis

In the tessellations of twilight, shards of selves converged. Whispered certainties crumbled, releasing wisps of forgotten cadences. Faded topographies of forgotten hours unfolded, their cartography inscribed on the walls of the soul.

Within this liminal realm, echoes of what once was and what could have been twirled, a dervish dance of the forgotten. Each step forged a labyrinth of memories, each memory a threshold to doors of the past.

Shadows sculpted the contours of the self, casting silhouettes of possibilities. The air vibrated with the hum of what lies beyond the veil of perception, an unseen melody orchestrating the symphony of remembrance.

As the protagonist traversed the terrain of their own consciousness, the echoes of the past coalesced into a chorus of discordant harmonies. The whispers of forgotten lives wove a tapestry of longing, each thread a fragile filament of identity.

In this dreamscape, where certainties dissolved and ambiguity reigned, the protagonist began to re-member the shards of their existence. Each memory a fragment of truth, each truth a doorway to the unknown.

As the darkness thinned, the protagonist's essence took shape, a flickering luminescence casting an uncertain glow. In the depths of their consciousness, a story unfolded, a hieroglyph of the self.

Like other “Beat Poets”, Jack Kerouac was attracted to Eastern philosophy, perception, and poetry. Together with Ginsberg and Whalen, he helped “Americanise” the haiku form and introduce it to a wider audience outside of Japan.

“The American Haiku is not exactly the Japanese Haiku. The Japanese Haiku is strictly disciplined to seventeen syllables but since the language structure is different I don’t think American Haikus (short three-line poems intended to be completely packed with Void of Whole) should worry about syllables because American speech is something again…bursting to pop.

Above all, a Haiku must be very simple and free of all poetic trickery and make a little picture and yet be as airy and graceful as a Vivaldi Pastorella.”
