"You don't sound like anyone else," said Danny Thompson - renowned bass player for Nick Drake and Joe Strummer - about English musician Conil.

The GRAMMY-winning engineer for Tom Waits and Elvis Costello, Tchad Blake said: "Strange Part of the Country is an awesome album! I still listen to it."

Fleetwood Mac legend Peter Green liked Conil's music so much he stopped by Conil’s house to record with him. They recorded a version of Conil's homage to the jazz greats "Round Midnight". 

Strange Part of the Country never conformed to any current trends and has remained timeless. Now, people are discovering this album and it is becoming an all-time favourite. 

When the album was released in the UK, it received some amazing press. Britain's biggest selling music monthly Q magazine gave it: "Four stars - Q Recommends". Blues Matters magazine wrote: "One of the most original artists out there". In the next issue, Blues Matters put him on the front cover.

Conil left London after Strange Part of the Country was released and has spent the last ten years living in the United States and Europe - including New Orleans, New York City, and Berlin.

I've been making music since 1972. At the time, with Pedro Castro, we created the alternative rock band Petrus Castrus. 

The music I'm placing here is mostly from the home recordings of my ongoing projects and ideas. I created a few playlists (Inéditos) according to language:

We are both amateur musicians, i.e. music lovers. As for me, I'm just an electrical engineer with a master in AI that really loves creating music and use it to share ideas. That is why all tracks include lyrics or texts.

By the way I'm not interested in third-party offers to boost the number of plays. I like it as it is, and I've always declined such offers. Thanks anyway. 

I don't repost much, just some tracks that I find outstanding and with very few plays, so I can help them to get better known. I believe that repost parsimony also makes life easier for those who follow me.

NOTE April 2025: It just came to my attention that, unless we do a separate contract, all our uploaded music in SC can be freely used for AI training. *** Note Dec 2024: Alas, AI generated content that is not disclosed as such is now being posted at an alarming rate, sometimes multiple tracks in a single day from fake artists that even write down fake introductions, saying how much they love music that comes from the heart. Please avoid reposting these deceptions, it only adds to the confusion.  And it encourages the algorithms to give them preference. ***

*** NOTE June 2024: Generative AI is becoming amazingly powerful. Nothing against it. Just to avoid the confusion and embarrassment of finding ourselves praising and encouraging mindless algorithms, I believe it would be nice for us to always disclose its usage in our tracks. I am drawn to folk, blues, soft rock, and country music, new and old. I love songs that tell a story, especially the Irish, English, and Scottish ballads of long ago because their stories are often timeless, and most everyone at any time can relate to. 
 
I also am a pastel painter and find being able to express universal emotions through my art, as well as writing lyrics and putting them to music that I can sing and play on my guitar or ukelele so rewarding and comforting.

Memories of people, places, and events throughout my life influence the songs I write.
