Ethereal Country, Cosmic Blue Grass & Gentle Pop meet in an entanglement of keys, guitars and angelic vocals to create a space for the mind to wander in the hills and valleys of a mountain range only found in that half asleep, half awake haze of the dreamers mind.

Next up in our Record Club Guest Mix series is Paul Hillery of the Folk Funk & Trippy Troubadour blog. Paul is a hugely respected collector of private press obscurities, lost loner folk, strange musical fauna and intricately played floral powered wonders. Known in collectors’ circles for his deep digging adventures and his immersive mix series on the Folk Funk & Trippy Troubadours blog (FFTT), Paul has gained a reputation as the go-to man for compilers and labels seeking information pretty much unavailable anywhere on the net. 

He recently released his FFTT compilation on the ever excellent RE:WARM records and it has become a firm favourite here at Mr Bongo HQ. To dig deeper into this rich seam of lost treasures and obscurities we asked if he would contribute a mix in our Record Club series. He’s a DJ / Selector of some pedigree, having played alongside The Polyphonic Spree, Arthur Lee & Love, Bonnie Dobson, Spiritualized, 4 Hero, Happy Mondays, Simian, The Bees, Julian Cope, Courtney Pine and many, many more. Written mid 80s after a few years of using a St Paul's College skiing trip model for a spring term recount writing session with my classes. This is different from my other songs-a recount, and has people's names.

“Neil’s aboard”,
Engine revs and roars,
“Can’t be late for departure gate”.
At last!
The ascent,
Climbing to the top of the continent,

Skiing on a sunny afternoon.
Soon we’ll slide and glide,
Looking for a ride,

2.	Paul stands there,
Clutching teddy bear,
In the Centre dormitory.
“Lights out now,”
Sir and Miss said, but
Before la piste we’ll have a midnight feast!
Fizzing,

FOAD - Little Wing Jam

I had a picnic  with a friend in the studio garden(socially distanced, naturally). It was the first time I'd really socially interacted with some one, in weeks and weeks, and it was such fun, that it inspired this tune.
As my rhythm section are still in lockdown, I had an Artificially Intelligent drummer and bassist , courtesy of Spunky Funk, but that will change in the coming weeks, as will a vid.

Music Inspired By A Picnic

I have been involved with music since my teens, sometimes singing pop songs, ballads and dance tunes with bands and sometimes taking a more contemplative route though the art via songwriting and recording on my home studio. i was in several bands in England, my birthplace, in the 1970s, including The Fred Bloggs Band, based in Bristol and recording an EP there in 1979. 

When my children were growing up I recorded several CDs of original songs which are available on Spotify and Apple Music.  These tracks on SoundCloud include some of those tracks along with other recordings made over the years which have not been published. Some of the latter tracks are only demo recordings  but I hope people enjoy them anyway.
