Please give a listen and comment to this big band treatment of a grand old tune.

For a song that always felt like a desperate plea this beginning seems too upbeat. Maybe a sadder key and tempo change downward.

The plea ends on a note of hope and perhaps this is where it becomes happier.

"Broken Toe" is a composition by Richard Page which is rooted in New Orleans. The second line feel comes from the influence of hearing the Preservation Hall Jazz Band perform when he was very young.

Allan Holdsworth, whom I considered to be the greatest modern jazz guitarist, died on April 15, 2017 at the age of 70.  If an "ordinary" genius is someone like you and me, except much, much stronger, at least we can trace back their ideas, understand how they did it and why we couldn't.  Allan was the other kind: The magician, whose ideas seemed to drop from the sky without a return address and no return trail to follow. Co-composed by Aleck Rand and James Rivas.

We (The Yorkville Big Band) are beginning our 22 year as a big band...  Hoo Boy!!!  Our winter dance season starts in November with our monthly dance/concert at the Timber Creek Convention Center, Plano Illinois.  Every third Sunday.  Log into the band's web site for other concert dates.
