DEXT Sessions 006 [Haze & Bodyjack]

Production and promotion are no new discovery to Pete Dorling; this Essex born DJ has been working the house music game since his early teens, and loving every second. 
Involved in everything from early 90’s raves to pirate radio, he has had a personal and passionate experience of the electronic scene, which influences his sound today. 
Pete’s unique blend of house and techno has so far seen releases on Simon Baker & Geddes label, NoFitState. ‘Hussy’ was reworked and remixed by Simon himself, and provides that quintessential deep house sound. 
Most recently his talent has been noticed by Hot Creations, who signed up his track ‘Palonga’. Featured on their highly anticipated 2014 compilation ‘Hot Summer Jams’, the track has had huge exposure in 2014. This has been helped by support from all of the Hot Creations crew, as well as scene heavyweights such as Carl Cox, who featured it in his most recent Essential Mix for Radio 1. 
Going forward - as they say, success breeds success, so there is plenty in the pipeline for this dedicated DJ and producer.

Dreams come true (DJ Set)

There are two people behind the DJ-name DER EFFEKT: Marcel Fenkart and Marco Glabonjat. These two Austrians have been well known in the music scene of the Rhine Valley and in Vorarlberg over the last 15 years. In 2006 they got to know each other due to their love towards music and their sensitivity towards electronic music. Since then they've been very successful as a DJ-team. 
Marcel and Marco call their own music style "experimental electronic club music with a groovy pressure“. This is why one cannot define the exact style of music which is produced by DER EFFEKT but they play House, Deep House, Tech House and Techno. 
After a slight change in the scene of electronic music, these two guys from Vorarlberg published their first track called "Help you“. It was their first release, their first performance as DER EFFEKT and at the same time it was on the compilation of "Meet Me At The Loveparade 08“. 
Two years later Marco and Marcel founded their own imprint label called EFFEKT RECORDS. Some of the releases with renowned Artists such as Adriatique, Sascha Sonido, Mike Wall, Andrea Giuliani and Luca Rosetti and many others were published. 
Up to now this DJ-team had the opportunity to draw attention to their music in famous clubs and various events in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Namely these are Douala, Artheater, Odenien, Dome, Pratersauna, Conrad Sohm, Streetparade, Amnesia Clubtour and many more. In addition they had the possibility of playing with Chris Liebling, Monika Kruse, Karotte, Super Flu, Dominik Eulberg and Ida Engberg and many others.
The two artists produce their very impulsive and groovy tracks since 2010. These were published by their own label EFFEKT RECORDS and also by Circle Music, Frequenca Records, Impulsive Music, Not For Us Records, Budenzauber and HiFi Stories. 
In 2014 their label's 5-year anniversary was celebrated with a "Best of Compilation“ with tracks and remixes from Adriatique, Manuel Moreno and Sascha Sonido which are just a few examples. 
Its theme "Modular" was included in the exclusive compilation (MIR50) of Monza Ibiza Records.

Dance Music is Dead - Volume 6

While Going through some hardrives DEXT label boss HAZE has has unearthed an old jungle mix he recorded around 12 years ago ... the mix was made in the early hours of the morning at his flat in homerton after attending a Metalheadz event at herbal in shorditch london early 2006 , its mostly 93 - 94 stuff all vinyl records he loves and done off the cuff Hope you enjoy !

The goddess Hera, determined to make trouble for Hercules, made him lose his mind. In a confused and angry state, he killed his own wife and children. When he awakened from his temporary insanity, Hercules was a broken man; he prayed to the god Apollo for guidance, and the god's oracle told him he would have to serve Eurystheus, the king of Tiryns and Mycenae, for twelve years, in punishment. As part of his sentence, Hercules had to perform twelve Labours, feats so difficult that they seemed impossible, and the perfect embodiment of pathos; the experience of virtuous struggle and suffering which would lead to immortality.

Labour 1: The Nemean Lion
The first labour set to Hercules by Eurystheus was the slaying of the Nemean Lion, a beast with claws of bronze and impenetrable skin that terrorised the land on the border of Nemea and Mycenae, and who had killed all that had set out to kill it. Discovering that his arrows were useless against the beast, Hercules would use his club to force the Nemean Lion back into his own cave, and in the confined space, he would strangle the monster. Hercules would return to Tiryns with the skin of the Nemean Lion worn over his shoulders, resulting in a sight that caused Eurystheus to hide himself away inside a large jar, and Hercules was forbidden to enter the city again.

Labour II: The Lernaean Hydra
Having survived against the Nemean Lion, Hercules was dispatched to an even more deadly monster: the Lernaean Hydra - a water monster who guarded one of the entrances to the Underworld. Raised by Hera specifically to kill Hercules, the Lernaean Hydra had multiple heads, but every time one was severed, two would grow in its place. Guided by Athena, and helped by Iolaus, Hercules would eventually overcome the Lernaean Hydra, by preventing new heads from growing, by cauterising the open wounds. The help given by Iolaus though, would see King Eurystheus discount this Labour. The blood of the Lernaean Hydra would subsequently be used by Hercules, for the hero dipped his arrows into the poisonous blood.

Chris Finke aka Bodyjack is a proper veteran - a DJ/producer with a long involvement in DMC Championships, he's someone who has taken that knowledge of what works in a club to his own productions. The latest example of this is 'Enfant Terrible', a cut primed for huge warehouse settings or shadowy basements. It's taken from his forthcoming 'Measure Twice, Cut Once' EP, arriving on house and techno-focused FINA sister label FINA WHITE, dedicated to the release of pure and unadulterated peak-time bangers. Premiere: Bodyjack - 'Enfant Terrible'

House and techno focussed FINA sister label FINA WHITE comes through with more direct dance floor grooves from Bodyjack, aka Chris Finke. The veteran artist serves up two killer tracks, one dub and four locked grooves that provide serious heat for DJs and dancers.

Before now, former DMC competitor Finke has established himself with his Bodytrax label in association with the Clone.nl crew, standout mixes for Radio 1 etc and EPs on the likes of UTTU, Hypercolour and DEXT, all while being a famous former resident of titanic techno party Atomic Jam and playing the world's finest clubs for years.

Arresting opener 'Measure Twice, Cut Once' is a big, buoyant techno monster with warped acid lines and raves vocal stabs all adding fuel to the fire. The locked grooves serve up scintillating breakbeats that are hugely powerful and ripe for abuse in the club, and then 'Enfant Terrible' is a dark and eerie warehouse monster. The bass is loud, the kicks rock solid and an echoing female vocal lost in the midst of it all draws you in deeper. Closing things out, the dub versions strip things back to gritty chords and heavy, well-swung kicks that make you march.

This is high class, high functioning techno from one of the finest in the game.

PREMIERE : Bodyjack - Measure Twice, Cut Once

Underground Resistance is probably the most important Detroit record label since Motown: their sound and attitude emerged in the early '90s as the most uncompromising one from the Motorcity, it was pivotal in shaping US and European Techno, started the resurgence of 90's Electro, but most of all indelebly marked the consciousness of thousands of people around the world who share their messages of resistance and hope.
And last but not least, they did so many amazing records!

So, 30 years has passed since UR-001 came out in 1990.
Since UR and 'Mad' Mike Banks were so influential for me, not just sonically but mostly on the attitude side of things, I decided to go thru all my 12"s and make a retrospective tribute mix to celebrate this anniversary.

At first I wanted to pick 30 tracks only and keep it compact but so many great ones were left out.. so I just started and at the end I used 60+ tracks! Almost all the classics are there, plus a fair share of lesser known tunes which really shine as well in my opinion. All from the UR catalogue only. No Z-tracks unfortunately :)

I really hope to have done justice to their sound, and I hope as well that the listeners will enjoy the ride, have the chance to discover some amazing music, and maybe feel the energy and pride and love that Mike Banks and the UR crew put into the music and pressed into the grooves.

1990-2020: 30 Years Of Underground Resistance - Tribute Mix

Over the last few years, Bodyjack (aka Chris Finke) has been confidently carving a path very much his own through the stormy and unpredictable waters of electronic music, and refreshingly doing it on his terms. 

From the outset, his early productions on Hypercolour UTTU and Ultramajic showed incredible depth and dance floor sensibilities, frequently mastering that difficult line between genres that producers seek, but often fall short of (and often sounding contrived when trying). His vinyl-only label series “Bodytrax” (which he proudly runs with the Clone.nl crew in Holland) is an ongoing outlet for these productions; one that ebbs and flows through his passion for creating what he feels like organically and not what’s being hyped at the time. Drawing on his years of experience as a DJ and not being one to settle simply for “getting the job done”, his output is renowned for being incredibly effective and standing out in the sets of DJs the world over, with his music consistently featured on Radio 1 shows and essential mixes. In 2016, he dropped his critically “Cobra Effect EP” on DEXT which was championed by the likes of Black Madonna and Jackmaster, which led to an invitation by legendary pioneers Leftfield to remix "Song Of Life" on their historic 22 Year Anniversary re-release of “Leftism” in 2017. He also explored collaborations including “Hotshot” with long-time supporter Paul Woolford aka Special Request, and his new “Duel Series” which kicked off in late 2019 with Berlin legend Fiedel.

On the performance side, his early days saw him as a DMC DJ Championship competitor, and then cutting his teeth worldwide as a techno DJ (including a residency at the UK's largest and most respected parties “Atomic Jam” in Birmingham). His lifelong obsession with seeking out and collecting music has also paid off in spades in the form of his vast record collection, which he explores with mixes and shows he has produced for the likes of Radio 1, FACT, Mixmag, DJ Mag, and Rinse FM. Armed with these experiences and credentials, he is known as a technically skilled and incredibly intuitive DJ, taking risks where they count and never playing the same set twice. Tapping into his love affair with music and working the floor, he prides himself in being able to play pretty much anywhere, be it techno, electro & EBM in the main rooms of Berghain or Fabric, jacking Chicago and acid house alongside the originators in the “Dancemania Mixmag Lab”, or electronica & beyond supporting Leftfield on their Leftism 22 UK arena UK arena tour in 2017.
