@axefieldmusic Who's Susan? Following our starlet from Djibouti to Leiden she keeps bringing certified legitness to you and your crew. The first 12" release, named 'you are the prototype', is a V.A. with tracks by Raär, Axefield and William Caycedo, spanning three different vibe's, all within Susan's comfort zone. 

On the A side the killer lo-fi house vibes of 'Santori' meet hypnotic acid bumps in this late-nite party gem, keeping your ears ringing all the way back home. Axefield creates ample room on the B side for his deconstructed synth filled 'SNY' in which Japanese and Jamaican voice samples culminate in just under 9 minutes of bliss. William Caycedo's 'SNY' remix snaps you straight back to the dancefloor, with percussion as crisp as it gets and a baseline as low as it goes, this one has that instant deep gut reaction.

Slow, consistent bumps. Is that how Ostrich’s stroll through the passage of their lives? Add a few high and low synths and you might have a point there. But wait, what about the acid? It’s all part of the greater Ostrich at large. Axefield’s opening ode to the exotics is a lucid dream in which your answers are questioned by a tropical animal as the steady beat thumps on and the hypnotising synths make you swing left and right. As the filter flings the hallucinogenic Ostrich Ride To Other away, the palm trees turn into riverbeds and clear crystal dreams. Was this the other side? I don’t know. You don’t speak Ostrich either. All we know is that you should ride the darned thing by its wings. If you would have listened you would have heard.

Axefield - I Dreamt of Amazonia [Free DL]

The water poured elegantly from the edge of the cliff. The wet rocks were lined with moss and wild flowers due to the damp conditions. As she walked under the falls she looked upwards towards the great blue sky, her mind a million miles away from the problems and stresses that she had left back home. Deep in the jungle she was now very much at ease, the warm humid air which surrounded her was intoxicating and deeply comforting. 

Axefield is next to release on the evolutionary Atomnation record label. Not ones to stand still the label turns its focus towards an up and coming producer with a penchant for deep. dusty house.

Atomnation has been home to some of the most vivid and striking records in the DIY electronic music space since 2012, stretching across albums from it's renowned founder Applescal, to the melancholy EPs of Amsterdam stalwarts, Weval. As they prepare for their 49th outing, Atomnation doesn't stray far off the beaten path, all the while deepening their trademark palette of swirling and enduring flavors with the release of "Pressure Drop", written and produced fully by Who's Susan label head, Axefield (soundcloud). The Dutch producer has a few EPs to his name for kindred labels like Dream Raw; however, his work on Pressure Drop carries a very special missive---a journey through sound so-to-speak as Axefield navigates listeners into the depths of a dense jungle, filled with lucid tones and kaleidoscopic percussive breaks.

The end of this journey is our premiere, the endearing and wistful Power of Resonance. Meant as a bookend to the Pressure Drop project, Power of Resonance utilizes various strains of tried-and-true styles within the dance music continuum, arranging them in exciting and novel ways to effectively guide us back from the brink of our own sanity. Just as the track sets its stage with gas stove hats, submerged kicks, and pinpricks of acid, these all give way to viscous piano stabs and declarative synth-work that doesn't sound too far away from the heyday of the early rave scene. These yearning melodies are re-coupled with the track's driving gallop, as Power of Resonance continues to take turns immersing itself in the swelling emotions it summons, and the absolutely breakneck pacing of it's drums, goading the listener to further explore the sonic pathways the EP has laid out in front of them.

As the final track off Pressure Drop barrels to a close with force and vigor, something most welcome arises---or rather, falls away. The brush and forest of noise that Axefield has been building throughout the track gives way to an open field of placid tones, debilitated samples, and a release from the cacophony that preceded it; an opportunity for calm and serenity to come flooding back to the fore. This final minute deposits the listener somewhere far away from where they started, and drifts off into the distance like a lost balloon, receding deeper and deeper into the sky until all that's left is a desire to hit repeat and take the journey all over again.

You reach the cliff you’ve been searching for. Tribal drums and foreign flutes trap your vision but you are the Last Minute Man who has been destined to figure out what all of this means. You take a break and fall into a deep sleep. Systematic, deep acid controls your thoughts now. The wind brushes past your face and you know you’re that man now. It’s becoming more of a ritual now. A hollow item is tapped on to get this tube-like sound that will stay in your memory for many fortnights to come. Though the wav-lengths of this track stay in equal flow, this is an absolute hidden gem exposed by the absurdity of Man.

If you monitor the house music scene coming out of Hong Kong, a name that you've probably heard of before is Romain Fx. For the past 10 years or so, Romain has been a key innovator in the HK scene, spearheading fresh concepts such as Roofest, the island's first rooftop festival and organizing monthly parties called ROAM in which he brings international artists such as Jayda G, Move D, Habibi Funk, Demuja to the city. Even if you're not too familiar with what is happening over that part of the world, you might even recognize him from his extensive touring in Europe, where he's played alongside the likes of Breakbot, Classixx, Kaytranada, College, Kolombo, Gigamesh, LNTG, FKJ, and many more.

In his latest effort, the French musician sets out with his Los Angeles brethren of Fantastic Voyage to release a collection of edits ranging from afro house to obscure disco cuts. The tune we're premiering for you guys today is an edit of Kamzu's song Indaba Kabani, which came out of South Africa during the early 90s. For those who love the original, you'll be happy to find out that RFX pays a lot of respect to it; choosing not to alter the original in a dramatic fashion. Instead, RFX simply makes it a tool that can easily be incorporated in DJ sets for you and me to unleash on the dancefloor! He's truly doing God's work here and we thank him for it.

Our next premiere comes to you from rhythm section aficionado Contours. After the much acclaimed Loose Wood EP back in 2016, North West is the Manchester Producer’s second release for Shall Not Fade. North West is brimming with all the delicacies we have come to expect from a Contours EP:  jazzy rhodes chords, tasty sax licks, and incredibly intricate polyrhythmic drum patterns.

Our choice cut from the EP is the title track, North West. The track opens with an airy repeating trumpet line that slowly rises much like the morning fog, as shimmering bells begin to sway around in the mix like a brisk gust on wind chimes. This eventually gives way to an entrancing conga pattern that pitters and patters like rain drops on a roof. Eventually a 2-step kick comes in and adds even further bounce to the track. On North West, Contours showcases his unique ability to fuse jazz and afro-beat influences into a pulsing thought provoking journey through a misty and grayscale terrain. When it comes to seriously good disco chuggers or edits, it’s fair to say that Orlando’s Sleazy McQueen, head honcho of Whiskey Disco and it’s sublabel Lovedancing, has the Midas touch for quite some time. Each and every record he decides to put out turns to solid black gold. Bolting Bits had an absolute pleasure to premiere tracks from two of the previous Lovedancing releases: LD03 which featured Tel Aviv’s underground beacons Rabo & Snob and LD06 which came from a French producer Closed Paradise and included masterfully crafted remixes from Texan The Silver Rider and Detroit’s Pontchartrain. It looks (and hears) like gold was struck yet again with the latest Lovedancing output. This time Sleazy is introducing Dagfest, a producer duo from Sweden’s capital city of Stockholm.

With previous releases on Ben Davis’ Paperecordings, Montreal’s Editorial records and UK’s ISM records, Dagfest should’ve found the place in the hearts and minds of cosmic funk aficionados. The latest offering from a duo comes as a 4 track vinyl with 2 original compositions and 2 remixes from NYC’s Superior Elevation Records boss Tom Noble and from Lovedancing CEO Sleazy McQueen himself.

Today Boltings Bits are happy to premiere the A1, title track of the release. “Falling in Love” is laden with funky guitars, catchy synths and a soulful vocal about one of the most beautiful feelings on Earth. “Dagfest” stands for day party in Swedish, but we are convinced that rather uptempo beat of this groover will surely provide enough charm and energy to stir and move dancefloors around the globe no matter whether it’s day, or night. The great city of Amsterdam is a place rich in culture and beauty and is especially true when it comes to electronic music. De Dam boasts talent on all fronts – home to huge festivals such as Dekmantel and ADE as well as the prominent record store, Rush Hour. Hidden deep in the cities veins is another treasure in the form of Bordello A Parigi, a record store come label sitting pretty in Oudezijds Kolk releasing and distributing outstanding music since 2011.

Next out the oven for Bordello is a gorgeous 3-track masterpiece from Berlin-based duo, Longhair. Marko and Bene have curated a distinctive sound for Longhair seemingly inspired by the electronic sounds of the 80s and more specifically similar synth driven influences that came from Italy in the 1990’s.

Following theme for their debut EP with Bordello is a synth-rich masterpiece with that Italo touch as mentioned earlier, all the while complimented by powerful kick drums and broad bass that cutting through at lightening velocity. Our undisputed favourite of the release goes to ‘Bunny’, blissful gem starting out with that all familiar bellowing kick before being quickly joined by a dancing synthline full of funk and life. Longhairs exceptional percussion-work perfectly ties the whole thing together to create a soundscape able to uplift and destress anyone at any time. This EP is an example of why we get excited every single time we get wind of a Bordello A Parigi release, be sure not to miss out on Longhair’s fantastic debut EP.

Our next premiere comes from DJ Moonbeam, and is the first drop on SITU, a newly formed Lobster Theremin sub-label. DJ Moonbeam has been known to craft hazy cuts that drift through different shades of the Deep House spectrum. Apus De Soare showcases the producers evolving sound and ability to create tunes that are as apt for the dancefloor as they are for the home. 

Our fave is the title track Apus De Soare. It’s a slow burner with massive filter swoops and stabby chord rhythms. As the track progresses, you feel yourself leaving dancefloor as you ascend out of orbit and into space. Cosmic waves of arpeggiated synths find their way careening the mix, while the thumpy bassline steadies the ship throughout its voyage. Moonbeam has honed an eclectic palette of Deep House sounds and distilled it into something uniquely his own.
