London by-way-of New Zealand producer SDS MAX arrives on excess, armed with 4 imposing leftfield cuts, including a razor sharp collaboration with Bristol MC Grove.

No time for pleasantries, ‘Tun Up’ opens with Grove’s hypnotic vocals layered over rippling drums and high-end synths. The energy builds to a stomping hook while Grove holds court over the swelling bass, conducting and guiding you through. Track 2 ‘Sleep Walker’ resets the levels with dreamy melodies before SDS Max forces you awake with dubby bass and the crack of a snare.

Combining clap shots, metallic sonics and oscillating stop-start bass, ‘Two Holes in Your Umbro Jumper’ gives off the eerie buzz of a rave on an abandoned space station. Imagine walking the endless corridors, with ravers rattling around in zero-g and strobes lighting up the airlock. We’ve not reached the outer solar system yet but SDS MAX knows how to bring the vibe back to Earth. Closing track and EP namesake ‘Murky Water’ features a total onslaught of percussion, bass, and laser gun synths likely to turn the dance on its head and leave the crowd reeling.

With previous releases for the likes of Vief and Hefty Bruises, SDS MAX continues to push forward on this solo EP for excess.

Melbourne-based producer Rita Bass wraps up her debut EP 'Reimagining' on Night Shop Records with ‘Leah’ — a dark, industrial plunge into experimental bass that stands as the EP’s most club-focused and unpredictable cut. While the rest of 'Reimagining' explores ethereal soundscapes and uplifting harmonies, 'Leah' delves into shadowier territory, driven by a restless, shape-shifting bassline.

From spaced-out wubs to frantic LFO jumps and cavernous techno pulses, the low-end drives ‘Leah’ with the essence of disorienting and hypnotic tension. Heavy-duty snares and industrial breaks grind against the bass, forming a relentless rhythm perfect for sweat-soaked dancefloors.

Despite its dark tone, the track’s origins are unexpectedly tender. Inspired by duduk melodies and the Armenian Hijaz scale, Rita recorded the vocals straight to her phone, layering harmonies outdoors in the dead of Melbourne winter. Wind and ambient noise bled into the takes, adding a raw, eerie atmosphere. Rita then wove granulated whispers through the mix, creating a haunting, ghostly effect that lingers long after the beat fades.

Aptly named after her grandmother, ‘Leah’ is a haunting secret weapon that completes Reimagining’s journey through renewal and reinvention… perhaps a reminder that even in transformation, echoes of the past remain.

‘Without Me’ is the standout single from the forthcoming LP ‘Transmission 96’ by Liftin’ Spirits & DJ Persuasion.

‘Without Me’ retains the duo’s mission to pay tribute to classic Jungle and Drum and Bass with a modern twist, on this occasion with a nod to the liquid musical style championed by legendary artists such as LTJ Bukem, ‘Foul Play’ and Ant Miles’ alias ‘Higher Sense’ (Moving Shadow). This track is taken from their forthcoming LP ‘Transmission 96’ coming via the Liftin Spirit Records label on 16th May 2025.

'Transmission 96’ is a collaborative LP between one of the pioneers of Jungle and Drum and Bass, Liftin’ Spirits (aka Ant Miles), writing and producing alongside DJ Persuasion, a devotee of the genre, whose immersion into the culture came when discovering Miles' groundbreaking productions.

From this unique twin perspective, the LP takes primary inspiration from the second wave of Jungle Drum and Bass in the mid 1990s, an era when the genre had deeply evolved, its breakbeats and hardcore stabs expertly blended with soulful melodies for the dancefloor.

Liftin Spirit Records was the original sister label to Ram Records, the renowned and hugely influential imprint founded by another foundational talent in electronic music, Andy C. Both were based in the same studio in Hornchurch, Essex, UK, itself owned by Ant Miles since 1994.

The origins of ‘Transmission 96’ channel this collective creativity from the perspective of a different era. Having become friends in 2017, the first sketches for ‘Transmission 96’ began to emerge long-distance out of lockdown, taking shape into a rejuvenated British rave culture.

Kulture Galerie returns with its fourth vinyl compilation, this time showcasing a futuristic collection of Techno and Tech House weapons with hints of Braindance, Electro and Acid. The compilation opens with tracks by London’s rising star YSANNE (Semi Delicious) and Rare Happiness, both delivering perfect dance floor destroyers, already tested in clubs around Europe.

Next, we have analogue enthusiast Perseus Traxx, with a relentless live jam packed of squelch and, on the flip side, Uncanny Valley’s Herzel who teams up here with North Macedonia's own L.O.V.D and together offer us a slow and chuggy Electro cut.

The compilation closes with Barcelona’s mysterious multitalented artist Sal Abi and his “Mariani”, a unique Machine made beat full of soul and magic. Following is the fast paced groove of “expandy” by acid maestro FLX and finally the record’s last track is the blissful and timeless “Parking” by Global Aphasia.

Emerging from the suburbs of North London in the early 1990s, Hulusi was an experimental electronic music collective formed by four friends of multi-ethnic origin: Cypriot, Caribbean, Indian and English heritage.

Cultivating their musical practice within very specific parameters of time and space, Hulusi instills the essence and spirit of the acid house movement (and its aftermath) that had taken much of England by storm from 1988 onwards. The ‘Dream’ EP was the collective's first release of their self-funded and limited output, offering up a categorically elusive record that could soundtrack the most esoteric and life affirming club moments, whilst simultaneously satisfying the ears and obscure desires of those found dwelling in the heavily occupied ‘chill out’ rooms and nocturnal after parties.

As the emerging UK rave scene aligned with newfound accessibility of music production, the late 80s and early 90s became a fertile ground for experimental electronic music, spawning a generation of bedroom and basement producers interacting with and creating music for often the very first time. Like many, Hulusi was a musical project that connected the dots between DIY spirit, technological advancements and the burgeoning cultural phenomenon of acid house. The project operated outside of the then perceived, traditional band conventions, instead developing their sound and exchanging ideas through the format of demo tapes and floppy disks, nurturing their work through individual bedroom studios and feedback sessions.

Considered a crucial and possibly defining element of the record, is Hulusi’s unconscious exploration of the groups hybrid cultural identity.

Rooted in a shared desire for self-invention, the Dream EP reflects Hulusi's response to a world of rapid musical and technological change. Each track on the record draws inspiration from both Western and Eastern musical frameworks, symbolized through the record’s structure. The ‘Western Side’, featuring "Dream," echoes the ambient techno and acid house influences of early rave culture and bands like 808 State and Orbital. In contrast, the ‘Eastern Side’ of the record is highly decorated with samples, yet stripped back, through its purposeful use of organic sounds, reflecting the group's fascination with blending Western modernism with imagined Eastern themes.

Despite operating in near obscurity, Hulusi - The Dream EP acts as an audible catalyst to transport the listener to a different time and place, offering a lucid snapshot into the musical and cultural explorations of the past whilst simultaneously remaining a timeless piece of music.

Intervals’ is the new record from Naarm-based musician and producer L Lewis out now on Bathtub Music. Blending jazz harmony, electronic production, and improvisation, the release expands on the sonic palette introduced in their debut. Built from live studio recordings in Naarm (Melbourne) with L Lewis, Lachlan Thompson, Finn Milne, and Jordan Dunster, the tracks were later chopped up in London by L Lewis.

The B side features remixes from local and international artists Space Ghost, Hector Plimmer, Joseph Shabason and Jonah Gabriel plus a bonus digital remix from Alex Albrecht.
