Beginning her creative journey in formative years with classical music and dance training, Sophia would later become engulfed by electronic rhythm. Tbilisi born and internationally bred, Saze formed a foundation to pierce deeper into these sounds by first launching her party and later label in Brooklyn – Dusk & Haze. Saze’s full circle home-run came after years of touring, when she found a nest in a city at the core of her upbringing, Philly. As a producer, her musical versatility draws from a wide array of shapes and expressions, from electro to krautrock, ambient to industrial, and acid to garage - embracing the drifting range in the waves of emotional fluidity, and plunging into higher tides of fathomless feeling, possibility.

Liluzu’s "What Is Your Star Sign" EP, from burgeoning (dare we say hotly tipped?) label Kalahari Oyster Cult, is a release that tempts the use of a lazy journalistic lens. Here is the latest release from a label that, in a fashion true to its name, has been accruing a small-but-devout denomination of savvy followers since debuting two years ago with Jacy’s “Somewhere In The Tapes” EP. Over the course of 14 releases in that time, Cult, run by Amsterdam’s Colin Volvert, has managed to snag buzzy artists like Roza Terenzi and Urulu. It would be easy enough to pen a write up simply positioning this latest release, from a relatively unknown artist, as another part of the Kalahari story, and little more.Afterall, Liluzu (real name Lachlan McGeehan) has been to this point operating in decidedly “low-key” fashion--dropping occasional mixes on online outlets, managing two releases on his wax label Vulcan Venti, and playing sporadic gigs in the fertile Melbourne milieu that he inhabits.

Based on the strength of this EP, however, his profile may be about to rise.

PREMIERE: Liluzu - Scale Libra

Haŵs Party Vol. 2 is a record of soulful, introspective tracks, as though you’ve suddenly become alone on the dance-floor and you turn inwards to explore. Whilst Haŵs Party Vol. 1 took an interstellar road-trip into space, the sophomore release takes a more drawn-out, lengthy cruise into the internalised, cerebral soundscapes of dance music. Wading through the borders between electro, breaks, acid and house, the second instalment from the Cardiff-based label and event promoters travels through uncharted regions of the sprawling atlas of music via another catalogue of exceptional names.
Jad & The’s honey-eyed electro opener ‘Digital Daintree’ is as groove-inducing as it is impassioned – a compact knit of synths, pads and rainforest samples that has no problem in stirring the creative hemisphere of the mind. The glossy interweave is torn apart swiftly, however, by the subsequent track; Dan Only’s ‘Pointless Melody’ is far from purposeless, but impishly bolts between weighty breaks and a greedy acidity that is tempered down by the dainty melody peering through the crevices. The final track on the A-side, ‘Hometurf’, comes from Aleksandir, who projects his lightheaded, wistful sound into warm breakbeats and a soaring repository of arpeggios that’ll have you ceaselessly yearning for some forgotten memory that you assumed had been lost forever.
Harry Griffiths’ ‘Llyn’ ushers away the breaks and replaces them with sun-dappled arrangements of chords and incandescent melodies that flutter like the hypnagogic visions that occur just before you dream. Carlo’s ‘White Lies’ takes the groove deeper than the fissures of the brain. Deliciously raw, balmy and with a frisky bassline, it’s a deep house track that gets back to the pure state of jamming through a wash of live samples from his collaborator, Nikoss. Does the past or future exist, or are we in the perpetual now? The existential rumination is carried gently back to reality with Sandboards rounding up proceedings. A placid coaxing out of the six-track reverie, ‘Japan Pt. 2’ scoops you up in nostalgic bells, pacifying drums and purring basslines until you’re ready to wake up.
It’s an internal excursion for all. Close your eyes, let the motions of your mind plunge deep into your soul, and have your body do the talking.

Aus music steps up for their first release of the new decade, and who better to bring the 'noise' than Dutch scene heavyweight and all round hard hitting house aficionado Nacthbraker.

It's that hard hitting house sound which rings true on this EP, and especially the track which is likely playing over your own personal airwaves right now. 'Qt and the Lizards' is much more than just slapstick, hard hitting and ham handed floor focused offering. Yeah, it will get the nerve endings of your Lizard brain firing like any good club track- but the delicate production nuances, crafted melodies and subtle nods to Dutch techno in the skittish bassline keep the music academics purring for more. More of the same, please.

The A-side of this four-track EP offers two highly effective dancefloor cuts that ride the line between many diverse influences of electronic music ranging from acidic electro to the early roots of techno. The B-side follows up with two deeper, heavily emotive tracks that drift into an uplifting, euphoric and dreamy atmosphere whilst remaining complimentary to the driving rhythms that open the EP.

Bouquet Records returns with its second release this July, entitled ‘Across The Bridge’ and coming courtesy of LA-based artist Intimacy aka Parks Perdue.

Outfitted with anthemic romps, tongue-in-cheek pastiches, and percussions that pivot from rolling adventures to rain hitting the windowpane, Intimacy’s “Across the Bridge” marks the artist’s fifth release on vinyl and first release on Bouquet. A grab bag of fun, dancefloor- ready tracks written across 2019, the EP delivers his aesthetic of old computers, sci-fi movies, and science class educational videos configured into deep, spacey line-toting bedroom techno and melancholic house.

The title track features a catchy electroclash-esque (!!!) saw wave bassline, complete with emo Roland D50 strings and bells, all laid over a very beefy electro beat. It crossbreeds a Drexciya strain of low-end thump with a chewy, Eurotrash bassline evoking that time you lost your wallet at Tresor in '98. Strings and bells from the Roland D50 introduce the same euphoric high found in most of the products crawling out of Perdue's lab these days.

“Angelo’s House” is a full-forced banger built around a well-traveled sample of Angelo Badalamenti's theme from Twin Peaks, recorded from an Intimacy live set early last year.

The flipside leads with the spiritual acid techno masterpiece “Datalore66”. Bubbling basslines hit a boiling point when placed in sequence with flutes showing genetic linkage to the Hartnoll family. Highly reactive material.

"Eternal September” opens a portal to the earliest hours of morning via synthesis of swirling pads and snapping drums. Closing the EP in introspective fashion, the track shows just how much emotional range Intimacy can pull out of decades-old disciplines.
