UK-based Electronic duo, Rein make their debut release on Needwant with Aphex-esque breakbeat dreamer, 'Yorker' which comes equipped with a remix from FEEL MY BICEP's, Hammer.

The track is otherworldly with dissected vocals which float above the instrumentation, creating a trance-inducing atmosphere whilst retaining dancefloor centric euphoria. Hammer takes 'Yorker' into an even clubbier territory with chunky kicks and colourful synth lines.

Breakdowns, rolling snares, shaky percussion also comprises this track, and the combination is killer. ‘Plateau’ is equally progressive and boasts a euphoric, otherworldly breakdown before unleashing its entrancing breakbeat crescendo. Salin Records welcome Tour-Maubourg to the label, a match they dreamed of since hearing his first EP on his home label “Pont Neuf” back in 2017.

Words from the label:

Paris-based producer and DJ Tour-Maubourg is an outstanding talent in creating emotions. It is probably exactly that what makes him one of the most promising artists of the Parisian house scene according to Trax Magazine. Through the last year, he was very keen on building up a studio in Paris. His enthusiasm for studio gear leads to a new level of production skills. “Interlude” and “Duophonie (Jazz Mix)” are two perfect examples for the symbiosis of sampling, synthesis and sound design. These two tracks fascinated us with their richness of detail and liveliness, and so we decided to build a whole EP around these beautiful tracks. 

Christophe Salin makes his remix debut with his reinterpretation of “Interlude”. After the release of his “You Took My Love EP” in spring 2019 he took the time to rebuild his studio and work on new ways to create sounds and textures. Remixing for one of his most appreciated artists of the current house scene is, without a doubt, the perfect time to release the sound he was working on during the last months.

Daria Salin’s painting speaks louder than any word and reflects the structures and details of Tour-Maubourg’s music.

Yellow Island Records is a brazilian record label. Inspired by the creative and chaotic environment of São Paulo city, Felipe Bortoloti, better known as Nørus and Flávio Albino, aka Albin, founded the plataform in 2018 as a way to connect artists from different parts of the World.

Working on its seventh release, Various Artists 2020, Felipe & Flavio have managed to wrangle in singles from dance producers and artists from North and South America, Europe, and Australia. Our favorite tune from this 23 track collection comes from Melbourne native DJ Life, who was previously featured on our site with his tune Rock the Beat.

The light was bright as it beamed and bounced upon the old brick wall. The projections were engaging and detailed, a visual stimuli for the darkness and a guiding light towards the dancefloor. Deep underground there was a chamber full of dancers, they had each followed the mythical projections and had wandered fascinated amidst the corridors and passageways until they found the source of the sound. This was not your typical friday night, far from it. It was something new, something unfounded and humble. The lights were simply to guide the way. 

Topher Horn is set to release a new EP via Yore Records, a well established imprint which has released a sprawling catalogue of underground house and techno across many years. The latest EP in the series is yet another fine example of the integrity and stature of the imprint.

Welcome to the mountains, a place in which wild creatures roamed free and explores danced beneath the stars. Many had got lost out amidst these parts and never returned home, perhaps that was what they'd always intended? To vanish? Simply slip away when nobody was looking and lose themselves amidst tall cliffs and clouds. The peak was in sight, it had been their goal for two long weeks and now as they began to climb the final stretch their breathing became difficult and coarse. Soon they would reach the top and look back down on planet earth, it really wasn't that big after all. 

NxF is set to mark the launch of a new record label from JoeFarr. An off centre affair which packed an almighty punch when it landed in the inbox. This is an EP which will work wonders in the club and is as intricate and euphoric as they come. Good vibes, fast paced, heads down material. Just how we like it.

Underground duo Rein rise enigmatically out of the ether and announce themselves to the world with their first ever label release, having put out a whole host of self-released goodness in the past. The EP, titled SG002, marks the second release put out from mysterious underground label Stolen Groove.
The 4-track belter takes clear inspiration from both house and breakbeat to deliver a sound defined by original drum breaks and euphoria. Rein must be given huge credit for finding sonic originality with music that makes you just want to get back out there into the dance. Soon come. Keep your ears to the underground and you're sure to see Rein make their mark over the coming years.

On the label side of things, when Stolen Groove were pushed for more info about themselves, all that came back was the message, "There's a record thief on the loose, hide yo wax!". Despite the mystery surrounding this UK based label, their message is clear: keep your records safe and always back the underground...

Two years after their first record came out, the crew operating legendary dance nights in Nantes are back on top of the new release pile. Two original tracks by Kanot and two remixes. Overall, their stylistic balance signature is maintained, although the gravity center is a bit more leftfield and poetic, a bit less dance-obvious. But that's only in comparison to other material : any of the four pieces here can take a dance floor apart, played at the right time.

Hit & Run has a massive "star grabbing" feel, the synth and guitar surges sounding like as many jumps above the stratosphere, and the vocalizing choirs on top making it a definitive cosmi jam.
Turbulens is more earthy than spacy : drum breaks and big ass basslines bring out an irresistible leg shaking feel, the melodic guitars on top balance the vibe into that delicious moment when caribbean sunsets turn the day into a warm a groovy night, certainly a party starter.

The pilotwings remix is to the image of their added touch : trancy on edges but very far from easy or obvious. Constantly jumping above and diving under the line, it's playing greatly with dancers feet, and eventually their minds.

House man Vidock delivers the most danceable material on this record. His strong experience as a DJ for parties focused on having people dancing freely for a long time is clearly audible. This slo mo belter doesn't need much advertisement, it just needs to be played to any dancefloor, be it at midnight or 8 am.

Gestalt tried picking out 4-5 but to no avail, as the 10 tracks were inseperable. Anyhow they ended up taking on the whole lot on, to be released as a double album split into 2 installments.

‘Pt. I’ out 6 months ago is an effortless blend of breaks, bass and ambient, drawing heavily on artists such as Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin and Pluxus. This is (in our opinion) a pretty valiant release and a bit ‘outside the box’, but definitely something that warrants a physical manifestation. For this second part Bobo returns to Gestalt Records with a 5-track collection of surging harmonies, swirling basslines and pensive ambiance.

It’s a double 12” Limited Edition vinyl album, with Dan ‘JD73’ Goldman on Keys, Hamlet Luton on Bass and Gordon Kilroy hitting the Drums. This this powerhouse Rhodes-piano-led fusion-funk trio was established in Leeds, UK, in 2012.

Between them, Dan, Hamlet and Gordon have worked with a veritable who’s-who of funk, soul and electronic artists including Nightmares On Wax, Morcheeba, Peven Everett, Tito Jackson, Leon Ware, Nate James, Pee Wee Ellis, Natasha Watts, Eddie Roberts and The Haggis Horns. This is only a few.

The band has also supported artists including Alice Russell, Cymande and José James and wowed crowds at prestigious venues and nights including Ronnie Scotts, Jazz Re:freshed and Manchester, Gateshead, Cambridge and London Jazz festivals.

Playing adventurous and hard-hitting original compositions, they are heavily influenced by legendary funk-fusion artists of the 70’s, including Herbie Hancock and The Headhunters, Bob James, George Duke, Patrice Rushen, Jeff Lorber, Brian Auger and Chick Corea. You can hear their inspirations blended together with their own unique twist.
