If you have not been keeping tabs on the burgeoning club scene of Melbourne, you have truly been missing out on some of the most forward-thinking, self-reliant producers in electronic music today. Unlike the established communities of Berlin, London, or even New York City, Melbourne's music is relatively new and coming to life before our very eyes. I believe the thousands of miles that separate the city from traditional music hubs have created a DIY attitude amongst its artists - forcing them to rely on themselves and what they absorb from the internet to develop their signature sound.

Although it's difficult for us to describe what that "sound" is, the lads over at Echocentric Records have set out to capture it through their upcoming three-part vinyl series that aims to dig deeper into the Australian underground by showcasing its emerging talent. Titled "Musica Australis Incognita," this phrase roughly translates into "Unknown Music From The South" and plays upon the Latin roots in which Australia's name is based upon.

The first entry of this series is "Field Of View," which is an EP from Benjamin Stendell aka Solar Suite. The record includes three original tracks and a remix from fellow Melbournian upstart Escape Artist. The title track, which we are premiering today, exemplifies the kind of traits that are emblematic of the city's developing sound. Drawing on breakbeat and trance influences, Solar Suite melds together an ambient mixture of rippling synths and booming bass that undulate between moments of peaceful euphoria and chaotic dance. The track also contains some heavily-reverberated vocals and galactic bleeps and bloops that give it an otherworldly feel seemingly fit for a rave in space. 

Fortunately, you do not have to leave orbit to possess these melodies. They can be safely consumed here on earth. All you need to do is pre-order the vinyl by following the link above. 

Field Of View is set to hit stores on October 16th. 

The rest of Echocentric's three-part series is expected to come out in early December and late January, featuring music from the likes of Point Guard, PMA, DJ Life, and Rudolf C.

Two years after their first record came out, the crew operating legendary dance nights in Nantes are back on top of the new release pile. Two original tracks by Kanot and two remixes. Overall, their stylistic balance signature is maintained, although the gravity center is a bit more leftfield and poetic, a bit less dance-obvious. But that's only in comparison to other material : any of the four pieces here can take a dance floor apart, played at the right time.

Hit & Run has a massive "star grabbing" feel, the synth and guitar surges sounding like as many jumps above the stratosphere, and the vocalizing choirs on top making it a definitive cosmi jam.
Turbulens is more earthy than spacy : drum breaks and big ass basslines bring out an irresistible leg shaking feel, the melodic guitars on top balance the vibe into that delicious moment when caribbean sunsets turn the day into a warm a groovy night, certainly a party starter.

The pilotwings remix is to the image of their added touch : trancy on edges but very far from easy or obvious. Constantly jumping above and diving under the line, it's playing greatly with dancers feet, and eventually their minds.

House man Vidock delivers the most danceable material on this record. His strong experience as a DJ for parties focused on having people dancing freely for a long time is clearly audible. This slo mo belter doesn't need much advertisement, it just needs to be played to any dancefloor, be it at midnight or 8 am.

Gestalt tried picking out 4-5 but to no avail, as the 10 tracks were inseperable. Anyhow they ended up taking on the whole lot on, to be released as a double album split into 2 installments.

‘Pt. I’ out 6 months ago is an effortless blend of breaks, bass and ambient, drawing heavily on artists such as Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin and Pluxus. This is (in our opinion) a pretty valiant release and a bit ‘outside the box’, but definitely something that warrants a physical manifestation. For this second part Bobo returns to Gestalt Records with a 5-track collection of surging harmonies, swirling basslines and pensive ambiance.

It’s a double 12” Limited Edition vinyl album, with Dan ‘JD73’ Goldman on Keys, Hamlet Luton on Bass and Gordon Kilroy hitting the Drums. This this powerhouse Rhodes-piano-led fusion-funk trio was established in Leeds, UK, in 2012.

Between them, Dan, Hamlet and Gordon have worked with a veritable who’s-who of funk, soul and electronic artists including Nightmares On Wax, Morcheeba, Peven Everett, Tito Jackson, Leon Ware, Nate James, Pee Wee Ellis, Natasha Watts, Eddie Roberts and The Haggis Horns. This is only a few.

The band has also supported artists including Alice Russell, Cymande and José James and wowed crowds at prestigious venues and nights including Ronnie Scotts, Jazz Re:freshed and Manchester, Gateshead, Cambridge and London Jazz festivals.

Playing adventurous and hard-hitting original compositions, they are heavily influenced by legendary funk-fusion artists of the 70’s, including Herbie Hancock and The Headhunters, Bob James, George Duke, Patrice Rushen, Jeff Lorber, Brian Auger and Chick Corea.
